You two have quickly become my favorite booktubers! Tell Tayler that I am currently about 200 pages into Bringer of Dust and it is darker and more intense than Ordinary Monsters and I am loving every minute of it. Can't wait to hear her thoughts.

Why thank you! It's an honor. She is chomping at the bit to read it.

Shirley Jackson lived in my town (N. Bennington, VT) when she wrote some if her books. I cover The Lottery and We Have Always Lived in the Castle in my classes. I just bought The Haunting if Hill House. The movie from the 60s is one of my favorite scary movies!

Love this! Spooky Season is upon us. Yes to gothic, atmospheric and ghosts but no to horror - I'm a scaredy cat! I'll try to send some cooler weather over, it was 7°c here this morning. Enjoy all your reads.

I love spooky season recommendation lists! I've been watching so many, and I've heard the Last House on Needless Street is wild. I'm moving that to the top of my TBR. Thanks for another great video!

Two recommandations: Uzumaki, a japanese manga. Super flipping. Never thought snails were scary before reading that. The Troop from Nick Cutter, he took inspiration from Stephen King. Highly recommend!

Glad you’re reading Joe Hill, if you pay attention there are some Easter eggs and crossovers with Mr. Mercedes, which I believe was written around the same time. And if I may make a suggestion check out Chuck Tingle and Grady Hendrix - I’ll be reading How to Sell a Haunted House next week.

My husband and I accidently watched the movie Poor Thing or whatever the name is. It was so weird but beautifully filmed. We kept asking each other what in the world were we watching. We watched the whole movie and weren't sure what we thought when it was over. I am glad to hear you talk about it and because of that I have fonder memories of it. Some of your book picks sound scary, good luck with them.I just finished a book I read because of you, CJ Sansoms Dark Fire. I like his books so much and glad you mentioned them. It takes me forever to read them and I don't know if it is because of the small print or that I am enthralled with them. Poor Cromwell just lost his head. Have fun being scared.

The closest I came to what you read were Jay Kristoff's books (Empire of the Vampire). Next year I have Washington Irving. In the future, I'm interested in reading from King's son, Locke & Key (but I don't know what genre the series belongs to). As for what I'm reading this season, that thing is romance

@GoodBooksLately If you like spooky lighthouse movies, there's a movie called The Vanishing, which is based on a true mystery that became Scottish legend. Really good!

Ahhhhhhh, I had to run over to Amazon to see if I could get the Shirley Jackson book. Only $.99 on Kindle, SOLD! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I put The Last House on Needless Street on hold with Broward County but I think my 90 day free library card will be done by the time it’s available!

@@GoodBooksLatelyI read We Have Always Lived in the Castle yesterday/early this morning (hubby slowed me down, apparently he has to eat every so often 🙄🤪). This book! OMG! Charming and disturbing. I highly suggest you both read it so you can discuss it. You will want to discuss it! I couldn’t sleep last night from thinking about it. Perfect book for a rainy/stormy fall day. Shirley Jackson has that innate ability to make you ponder her writing. Super fast read. I remember reading her short story The Lottery in maybe middle school (in the 70’s at some point anyway) and it never left me. I need to find that and read it again! Enjoy!

If you enjoy fiction that reads like non-fiction Chasing the Boogeyman by Robert Chizmar fits that bill. The less you know going in the better it will be.

All excellent picks!! Of course Stephen King is always top of any scary list. A book I love is Ghost Story by Peter Straub, who was a co-writer with King on The Talisman. Suspenseful and I plan to re-read Ghost Story this month and I almost never read books again! And love Joe Hill, maybe I was one who recommended earlier ha. Confession- I started reading last house on needless street (I also see it as needles😂) and gave up as I just couldn’t get into the flow. I can’t wait to hear what you think.

I read The House of Needless Street in spooky season in 2022. I gave it 4 stars, spooky! Currently reading The Whispering Dead by Darcy Coates, loving it! Just finished Lost Man's Lane by Scott Carson for October book club, creepy premise but too wordy, didn't have to be 500 plus pages. The book would have been better if he had narrowed down his narative.

I don't celebrate spooky season, but I do enjoy thrillers on occasion. Right now, I'm listening to Tress of the Emerald Sea (one of your recommendations, thank you! ) and I'm reading aloud Three Bags Full (another recommendation, thank you! 😊) to a friend who has developed vision issues.

I Love Anne Rice and need to read more Stephen King. I am currently reading The Scarecrow by Michael Connelly that a coworker brought me and told me I had too. Next for spooky season I plan on reading Dracula and Frankenstein because this is my year of reading classics, sprinkled with a few other things. You guys have inspired me to read more! So I’ve went from barely reading to it’s an enjoyable goal for my everyday now :)

I read Interview with the Vampire about 25 year ago and I finished it but it was a slog and I haven't picked up another Anne Rice after it. I know a lot of people love her novels but she just wasn't for me.
