Love the content-no fishing video cliches “here we go” and sacking the camera as a cut scene: just simple and phenomenal fish catching with a laid back man that isn’t an obnoxious “bro” type. Keep up the good work-oh, and please weigh a couple of fish here and there so I know what range you are catching then
No doubt. I pinned about 35 Smallies on the Shenandoah River yesterday using the same technique with a light jig and paddletail. My largest was smaller than his smallest.
he is without a doubt a great fisherman, and people who are great at something tend to make the things they do look easy; BUT, having said that, I think my grandmother could hook 'em up wherever this is. Seriously, to catch a nice smallie by accident when ur lure is dangling in the water?????
You’re like the bob ross of fishing. It’s quickly becoming my routine after work to sit on the couch with a cold adult beverage and enjoy your relaxing videos. Keep em coming!
SMH.... 2:58, getting a backlash out and still catches a fish. Releasing that fish, and catches another fish without trying... That's a problem to have! Also - your "medium sized fish" are about as big is my PB smallmouth. 😉
As much as I love your content, the two words on this video that changed my whole outlook on fishing are "self release." somehow all the misery of losing a fish has now been replaced by the comfort of knowing that I've been spared the unnecessary hassle of hook removal😳😁
Luke, it gets on my nerves when they are constantly screaming “Oh dude, have you seen the freaking size of that thing” and it’s only 1/2 lb fish!!! Oh dude that’s awesome! That’s when I either turn 5he volume off or change the channel!!!
Ah, few things compete with an early morning on the water, the whiz of line escaping the reel, chickadees whistling in the background and the jump of a bass angered by the hook in his mouth. Thanks for sharing.
Ideas for future NDYakAngler vlog titles: “A swarm of bass attacked me” “So many bass, my yak was about to sink” “See I told you I’d catch a fish today” “33 bass in 13 minutes” “River bass attacks a yaker, film at 11” “Smallmouth bass self quarantines in a kayak, go figure” “Bass are a gift to all mankind so please be good to them.” “Smallmouth, big heart” “How to catch lots of bass, calmly” “Another perfect day on the river, you betcha” “Come along for another great bass catching episode” “Ricky only wishes he could catch fish like this” “How I became a fisherman” As you can see ND there is quite a variety in my offerings. Some serious, some silly, some suggestive but all with respect to the best bass yak man out there. Thank you for inspiring me to become a fisherman too. I am hooked on it and excited to excel at fishing. Great channel my man. Well done.
I catch so many fish (not to mention my perfect casting) I'm just going to stop and leave my little piece of Heaven and go eat a samich. Even though they are biting. Life of the NDYakAngler. It must be nice to be you bro. LOL!
I am glad I moved to another stretch of river, I ended up catching a bunch of 18-19” fish at the second spot! I’ll be uploading that video some time in the next week.
Your audio is outstanding. I love the natural background sound in your recordings. Those sounds bring back some great memories of times I've spent in a canoe before kayaks became popular. What recording equipment do you use? Those are some big smallmouth in ND. Thanks for posting your videos.
I love that he catches so many smallies. On my lake and on yt, everybody catches largemouth but 95% of my fish are smallies so I relate to this guy more.
No smallies in my country and I enjoyed this wondeful video…a lot! Watching these beautiful fish fight, their shining sides…and the gorgeous natural scenery. At time 10:00 the clarity of the water allows you to see the smallie attacking the lure! Awesome. Once again a masterpiece of fishing bliss.
I’ve seen almost all your videos, it never seems like anyone else is fishing your spots which makes it super cool! Your videos got me to buy my first kayak. Awesome vids 🤙
I know that I'm a bit late to this fishing party but I'll comment anyway. There were so many great moments in this video that I'll just say thanks Matt and congrats on the growing # of new subs. Keep'em coming 1 great fishing video at a time! *God bless.*
Dang you luck SOB.. I remember when I was young and able to withstand the cold.. some of my best fishing experiences where in the cold.. Heck one time in the high lakes of Oregon we had a half a foot of snow in the boat I got the fattest brookie I have ever caught that day.. it was short but very fat.. it was a hard great day.. ah the fish whisperer in action... man some nice eating bass there to.. I like a good bass fry every so often.. But I am more of a trout and salmon eater.. well done son.. I am extremely envious.. you lose a lot when you get old.. But you gain a few non material things so I guess it all balances out.. Be safe out there.. and thanks for the share.. carry on!
I understand that this is an older video, however I want to thank you... that was the first time I can remember actually seeing the fish "shadows" swimming under water (when you were by the little island" and watching one come back for the bait. That was really cool! I've never been much of a fisherman, but your videos make it look really fun. In fact, I'd rather watch you fish than to watch an NBA basketball game and that's saying something. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great videos!
Hiya Matt! 👋😊 I’m pretty sure those smallmouth are so happy to see you they just throw themselves at you. I’m so happy you’re back on the water. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Matt, for sharing these great videos! They sure help to ‘prime the pump’ for me and my boys. We’ll be up north, going after Minn smallies in June.
NDYakAngler, thanks for posting. I really appreciate everything about your youtube posts. Even though I don't have such great bass fishing here, it's still motivational and helpful getting me out on my yak more often and catching more smallies.
It's people like Matt that bring a little perspective to mid-Atlantic Smallmouth kayak anglers such as myself that pin large numbers of 10-15" fish. We max out at about 20", here... and I become a bit bummed out (in a way) with a 35 fish day that I didn't see a 15"... such as yesterday, where I used the exact same technique that Matt used in this vid, only with a down-sized paddle-tail and smaller jig (you'll miss a pile of fish if you don't go small, here). This vid shows how you can absolutely be doing the right things and pin everything that's going to bite. While the pigs are almost certainly there, they might not be active. And as good as our techniques can become, it's a great reminder that there is always the element of luck involved every time we head out to go after these gorgeous creatures. This vid reinforced to me that I am doing the right things, and that the footballs will come.
Anyone else notice his pinpoint accuracy? He could land it in a shot glass from 30 yards out in between trees and under branches sidearm. I’ve never seen someone cast into some pretty dicey areas with absolute confidence and nail it
Those smallies are gorging themselves to spawn. That’s some of the best fishing right there. Their aggressive, and their plentiful. Come spawn time that’ll slow down to a crawl and then you have to really work to get them off their beds. Basically have to annoy them to the point where they just get pissed she swipe at it. Then after the spawn they’ll be starving and it’s right back to double digit days. Gotta love it
But could you contend with Pat McManus? According to his book, he’s bested some of best fishing guides in the world; even sometimes shutting down entire bodies of water just by showing up.
One reason Matt does so well is he has fished the same water many times. It's easier to find fish if you are working places you've fished under different circumstances before. I love his relaxed approach.
I’m new to this channel You are a delight to watch Every time I watch you I feel like it’s always Sunday morning You are sooo calm cool and relaxed I am definitely a subscriber Keep it up man. I love your camera angles, and your calm voice. You made me a kayak lover. Be safe and keep going Much love
Got a little birds nest, no problem fish will hit my lure while I clear my line , taking him off the hook and letting my jig dangle , fish come and get it. What do you expect , I’m Matt Nelson damn it. Hahaha. We bow to your greatness Matt and so do the Smallies. They know who their master is... it’s NDYakAngler. 😎
Magnificent place to fish my friend. You were crushing the smallies. All of them looked like good size to me. That keitech easy shiner is a great lure. I've been using it like that for about the last month. It's been fantastic. I enjoy the calmness of your videos. Take care.
This is just ridiculous. Pretty soon you won't even have to leave your house, the smallies will come ring your door bell and offer you their lip.
Lol
He probably be just as calm about it as he always is😁
😂😂😂
joseph abrams right?!? I love how low key he is. Hes not screaming at the camera with feigned enthusiasm like so many of the fishing channels do.

We definitely have different versions of "little guy"
No doubt. I pinned about 35 Smallies on the Shenandoah River yesterday using the same technique with a light jig and paddletail. My largest was smaller than his smallest.
This is the truth!
@@BarryP I live a little north of the Shenandoah
Right?! He’s all “just a little guy” as he holds up a 2-3lbs bass. Not huge by any means but damn decent fish
No shit lol
how this dude only have 60k, he's better than any other fishing youtubers who overeact everytime they catch a 1 pounder
Right!

Because he doesn't tell ppl to hit that subscribe button and tap the notification bell. 😂😂😂😂 JK
Totally agree! One of my favs.
He epitomizes the fisherman who likes to enjoy the quiet time alone in nature.
He caught more smallies in this video than I've caught in my entire life
I haven't caught a smallie yet.😥
Gone fishing 😭 same here
Same
Yea Me either
Ahh never used a Keitech.
Get yourdelf sum in smallmouth 🎩magic.

You’re like the bob ross of fishing. It’s quickly becoming my routine after work to sit on the couch with a cold adult beverage and enjoy your relaxing videos. Keep em coming!
Nickhead87 dabs here
@Nickhead87 well if a smallie rang your doorbell after some fat bong rips, I think you would think it was fun :) " dude!!! totally awesome!!"
Took the words right out of my head. The bob ross of fishing. " every little hook needs a friend".
Lindion Cicerao gonna just clean my swim bait here...flopopopopopop
8Jhartzell dude I was just saying he’s the Bob Ross of Brownies! Nice!
This man could travel the globe and catch smallies in a puddle...lol
he could use tree bark and catch a 10 pound bass
The bark spoon 🥄
I believe he could drop that jig down my toilet and catch a smallmouth. He learned to fish from chuck Norris
LMFAO!!! The truest statement EVER!!
SMH.... 2:58, getting a backlash out and still catches a fish. Releasing that fish, and catches another fish without trying... That's a problem to have!
Also - your "medium sized fish" are about as big is my PB smallmouth. 😉
Wasn't that an astounding minute? What an amazing fishery, that something like that happens.
As much as I love your content, the two words on this video that changed my whole outlook on fishing are "self release." somehow all the misery of losing a fish has now been replaced by the comfort of knowing that I've been spared the unnecessary hassle of hook removal😳😁
No shit, he didn't get off it's a custom release hook so I don't have to get my hands wet lol!
I love how calm you are. So relaxing compared to all the other fishing channels always yelling and carrying on like goofs.
Luke, it gets on my nerves when they are constantly screaming “Oh dude, have you seen the freaking size of that thing” and it’s only 1/2 lb fish!!! Oh dude that’s awesome! That’s when I either turn 5he volume off or change the channel!!!
You're like the Bob Ross of fishing.
This is so accurate
Nailed it!
HAHAHAHA I’ve never seen a more accurate comment
Seeing that bass stop and turn around on the jig and then nail it was AWESOME!

It's those googan noobs
