Bought this as a birthday gift to myself, and it now sits proudly on one the walls in my bedroom. Amazing attention to detail, very enjoyable to build (at least for me), and it really does looks very impressive when on display. This was my first Lego Art set, and it was so cool to see that even the mounting hooks at the back are made of Lego! I can't recommend this set highly enough.
Really hope we get more sets like this or Starry Night, recreating classic paintings in the Lego Art line. There's so much potential there and I wish they'd put a real focus on it.
I bought this set a few months back and as you say the added depth and unique elements really help bring the piece to life as you build it! I really hope lego art continues in this direction of taking classic art pieces and reimagining them.
My favorite with starry night. Illumination Tip: Direct your lamp(or lights chain) near the left bottom of frame and wave makes a nice shadow on top of build and sharp light on wave foam. Adds a lot of dimensionality feel to build.
I bought it 3-4 months ago. Absolutely love it as wall art. Plus the combination of the podcast while building was calming and informative at the same time.
This is currently my set of the year, the simplicity but techniques and how the piece comes to life, it's genuinely so amazing. Really wonderful art piece.
it is funny that what you consider a drawback to "Starry Night", the big 3d aspect. i think is one of the most inspired things about it, and i think it looks great on the wall and is a unique take on one of my favourite paintings. this great wave picture is also one i am considering to get in the future, since it does look good and is not just made of 1x1 tiles all over.
It gives it such a rich depth and it's fun seeing those little detail expanded on, like I literally never quite realized there's an entire town/village in that painting before.
I got this on a whim for my birthday and absolutely adored building it, I also really really enjoyed the audio track that you can listen to while building, great building experience and a great finished product so I love this set.
I love this set but the picture keeps popping out of the frame and it makes it difficult to hang on a wall so I just have to rest it on my desk when I would absolutely love to hang it up
This painting is one of my favorite of all time. Imagine my surprise when I saw that Lego made a version of it. I can’t wait to have it. Hopefully my cousin in law will bring it for me from the US, since this in Brazil costs way too much.
I bought this one for my niece of 9y a couple of weeks ago for her birthday. She couldn't wait to get started. She finished it 2 days ago with minimal help. I've hit bulls-eye there with my gift :D Glad you share the same positive thoughts about the set!
I got this earlier this year and couldn't be happier with it! It looks great hanging on the wall in my office and just the small amount of depth it shows makes all the difference in the world. It really looks great up close and far away.
I really never realised how many different elements were used in this set before, so this was very helpful for me and I might even consider adding this to my collection now
This was an instant purchase for me when I had the money. Im a huge fan of the original piece and the set looked amazing. I don't regret my choice one bit and it looks fantastic in the wall. Now just gotta come up with the money for the zen garden and Himeji Castle to go with it
I have the Great Wave and Starry night both hanging up in my art room. I actually bought a case from Wicked Bricks and I think it really makes the Starry Night look really nice. It helps with the dust and keeps the little hands from pulling pieces off of it.
That sounds awesome, which case from Wicked Bricks did you end up going with? I was looking and didn't see any specifically for the Great Wave. Cheers!
My husband gave me the set as a gift, and when I finished it, insisted we hang it in our living room. It fits in beautifully next to the original art we have hanging on our walls. (I also was surprised about the boats and people being in the painting. So I learned something interesting from making this model!)
I have my own personal category I call "best set of the year that costs $100 or less" and this one, hands down, wins it for 2023. From a distance if you squint a little it doesn't look like Lego. I showed pictures of this to friends and family members and none of them guessed the frame and matte were also made from Lego. Very unique building experience too.
You didn't mention it, but I also like how the frame itself is completely optional. The "print" in the middle is attached to the frame with several Technic axels so it can easily be popped in and out even when fully built. And since the wall mounting brackets are attached to it, you can just display the print by itself without the frame if you want.
Got this only a couple of weeks ago, built it over a couple of evenings in between decorating the dining room it now sits in on a soft pink wall, looks beautiful and even better when standing back from it
Great review. Received this set for my birthday and love it. At first I was afraid the build would be boring but in some way it's almost meditative and all the birds and leaves almost made me feel the turmoil of the waves. Looking forward to your future content :)
This has to be one the best sets made in 2023. It has some of the best price per piece values compared to any other recent Lego set, and it looks really good. I would 100% recommend getting it!
I build it recent. A very pleasent surprise full of nice building techniques. For the basic I listned to the podcast, which was very informative and from multiple angles. I can highly reccommend to listen it. Now it hangs as a beautifull art piece at my wall. Is it flawless? No, but indeed the best art set of the moment. I hope for more of this sort of sets.
I have this hanging on the wall in the shop where we make the coffee for our guests, everyone loves it. Fun fact: The 'bald men' in the boats are small images of Hokusai.
I have this piece and its such an awesome display piece and so fun to build. The price was also really reasonable, love it so much Also wondering if tiago can review the insect lego build that should be released soon! I think that one is super cool and unique
The sets I buy fall into three, fairly distinct, categories. Botanicals, because I think it is cute to have LEGO flowers around. Massive sets like the Titanic, the Eiffel Tower, and the upcoming Concorde. Artworks style LEGO, where the great wave is the only one I have so far. I am thinking about the modern art sets too.

Concordo. A minha experiência de construção foi excelente e o resultado final é um espectáculo. Está devidamente protegido do pó por uma caixa em acrílico especifica.
I have the Great Wave, Starry Night and World Map and completely agree, the Great Wave is the best. I have it hung on a wall, which I didn't do for the Starry Night. I think the large white rectangulr pieces makes it look like a matted piece of art or a matted picture frame and it looks amazing. I wish they had done that with the Starry Night.
I absolutely love this set. Though it’s in second place to Starry Night for me - I actually really like the 3D aspect of that one. Holding off on Spider Man until either you review it or they put one on display in my local Lego Store. Whichever comes first.
I recently built this as my first Art set, and was pleasantly surprised too! And the first surprise was when I opened the box, which was pretty much filled to the brim, it ends up being a much more substantial build than I expected. And yes, the first phase with lots of the 1x1 round tiles was indeed a bit boring, and reminded me to never ever buy one of those pure mosaic Art sets. But once that was over, it was an enjoyable build, and the end result looks great! And while the frame and white border surely must add quite a bit to the cost of the set, I feel it's essential for making it look so good. €65 (got a nice discount) well spent!
This a great set. One thing that I have wondered is if it makes sense to build the frame first and then the interior -- opposite of the instructions. I find making the Technic support structure to be the least satisfying building experience, and I'd like to get it out of the way first.
Oh no Chewbacca review again? LOL jk Great review, Tiago! Was sad this set wasn’t reviewed earlier on release before I purchased but glad you enjoyed it as much as I did! Def one of the better sets this year. Can’t wait for more from you! PS: bring back Tiago talk Tuesday pls and ty! 😊
Hey tiago, could you review the new lego Spider-Man art set? I’m thinking of getting it and want a professionals opinion on it, thanks for making great content btw!
I finished this today, great set butI thought the people are praying to keep them safe back to land? Why did Lego use black plates for building on? I modified my set using dark blue plates on top of the black then added extra white on top of the smaller waves to maintain the height difference
It's an absolutely beautiful set, but the artwork isn't my style - colour choice are too pastel - and I actually enjoyed building the world set and Darth Vader (probably because I'm old school hyperactive and did a couple every night and just found it super relaxing). That's the great thing about Lego, not every set has to be for everyone and everyone doesn't have to have every set.
Amazing review! Thank you, Tiago! You should try Van Gogh, The Starry Night. It is awesome, with no tiles... but a lot of plates instead 😬 ... it is my favorite Lego art. Regards! =]
Yes, I've watched it! I understand that the 3D overflow can annoy, but it is still a very beautiful combination of colors in the end (not to mention the Van Gogh minifig that is gorgeous)
Lots of white LEGO on display in a sunny room? That's going to give a nice natural sepia effect in a year or two 😅 But maybe that fits the art style in this case.
@TiagoCatarino perfect. I am looking forward to seeing it as a uni student who is massively into planes and lego. I want to see if its worth it and I trust your judgement very much :)
I didn't like the white surround 6 x 6 surround (mount board tiles). So I made my own using 1x 2 white tiles in a herringbone pattern. Otherwise I enjoyed making this set.
I think you forgot about Van Gogh which is IMHO the best Art set or maybe you didn't include it on some technicality. or maybe you just like this one more which is fine.
