- The Irish Hills area as it's referred to in Onsted Michigan, was a place of magic for kids for years. Many of us "Michiganders" from the area, and southeast Michigan have been enjoying it's attractions for decades until recent years when everything began closing. Seems nobody wants to leave their homes anymore and would rather use computers, tablets, phones, video games, etc. for enjoyment.
At the time of this posting, Mystery Hill is still open, and the Stagecoach Stop re-opened this summer but who knows how long that will last. :( As for putt putt golf, you're SOL now. Everything is closed unfortunately. Although you can still get an ice cream at the Dairy Bar and visit Walter J. Hayes State Park on Wamplers Lake.
I've enjoyed many years visiting here both as a child myself, and with my own kids. Really sucks that the grandkids won't be seeing it like we did. Especially Prehistoric Forest. As cheesy an attraction as it really was, the kids loved it, and it holds special memories for all that visited as a child. And that's what it was really for anyway.
It's a shame people don't engage in such family outings anymore. They really don't know what they're missing.
St. Joseph's Shrine was included just because it's a pretty cool place. :) It's not going anywhere I would assume.
Nice video of days past. My favorite was Deer Forest some 60 years ago. I still have the black and white pics.
I'd love to see those! I've seen some of my grandparents 8mm film of stagecoach stop when there were some pretty hefty stars playing there. Good stuff!
Wow - this was such a active and fun place when I was young. Sad to see this.
Great NEWS! Whispering pines is now open and is now Pirates Adventure Golf! Completely remodeled! The Hills is being revived!!
We can only hope! Whispering Pines didn't look like it was in bad shape. I figured it might be opening sometime. We'll definitely be out there this summer!
