    The truth is the league is overall not looking good because you have a team that every 50 50 decision goes there way, not to mention some big scandals for Liverpool mainly and Arsenal as well across the last 6 years.

    My take thus far:
    It’s been a very grueling and grinding start to the season with a lot of our fixtures, and tournament schedule mixed in. And it’s created a great deal of turbulence and opposition accompanied by having two very controversial and bullshit red cards mixed in to stack on top of it. Right now it feels like a very chaotic time, and with that said, I still think we’re navigating it relatively well. I’m not panicked by the loss to Bournemouth, but mainly disappointed by it. I think it will teach Arteta to be less conservative and more bold with his tactical style thus far. We can improvise around not having Odegaard, however we cannot improvise around not having Saka, and Bournemouth showed that to an extent.
    I love this club, and at this current time, I am cautious, but I’m not too worried overall. My main concern falls with Arteta, and if he can tinker properly to get us back to form.

    • @jjfam777
      @jjfam777 День тому +2

      To qualify this point, I think we can improvise playing without Saka OR we can improvise playing without Ødegaard, but we can't do both at the same time, especially without replacing either of them with a player in that mold.
      Sterling is more of a direct winger than Saka and Merino is more of a Bruiser than Ødegaard. Neither of them take the role of Chief Creator in the team. This makes our entire attacking state look absolutely void of ideas. I picked up on this even when it was 11 v 11.
      Nwaneri is the answer here. He's less of a creator than Ødegaard. More direct, but his willingness to take on players from midfield opens up space for others. It'd be like if Saka moved into Ødegaard's role.
      It still shocks me that he has not started a single prem game with Martin being out for over a month.

    Given Arsenal is 3rd, keep in mind losing players to injuries and suspension. Club has done fairly well this season. I don't think this is the best the club offers yet. Only issue is making sure the calls are consistent. If Saliba was straight red and should be because he's the last man. Then I want to see that same foul in future fixtures given straight red. No buts or ifs an excuse with a yellow. Same goes for other red cards Arsenal have received this season like Trossard.

    • @bosse4
      @bosse4 23 години тому +1

      First it was not a red card. It was too far from goal, Saliba and possibly White would have catched up with Eva Nilsson, the ball was not going straight at goal but through the side of the pitch. The only criteria fullfilled was that Eva Nilsson would probably reach the ball first. The correct call should have been a yellow card for denying a promising attack. As the referee took that decision VAR should not interfere as it was a subjective decision by the on-field referee and VAR should not re-referee nor rectify such decisions.

  • @1wfunston1
    @1wfunston1 2 дні тому +10

    It's really just the 3 red cards that have dampened the start of the season. 3 games out of 8 where we played more than half the game with 10 men (~20% of all minutes played). Those are the only 3 games where we dropped points. Nothing is set in stone, but it is not a crazy notion that we could have won those 3 games and now be having a different conversation. The squad is good/deep enough, the manager is good enough to win it, but we CANNOT win anything if we continue to play a large percentage of minutes with 10 men. How do we stop the torrent of cards that we're seeing should be the main question. Given the cards, injuries and fixture list, i'd say we're actually in decent shape in terms of league position at this (still) early stage of the season. Still feel like we're nowhere near the best this team has to offer yet

  • @JohnBarnesFootball1

    Pretty sound analysis Laurence.
    Arsenal are roughly where they might have expected to have been at this stage at the start of the season in the league. There is a lot of noise around injuries, which aren't exactly predictable, and more so red cards, which were entirely unpredictable at the start of the season and even confusing as they unfolded. The tough early fixtures were known but this is complicated to predict after a Euros summer.
    The strange thing is the noise around the games, in large part driven by decisions (whether by officials or players), but we're in October and Arsenal have had to adapt to new line ups in very tough games. Perhaps the anomaly is getting points without the normal structure.
    There might be a question mark about some of the fringe attacking players not being blooded sufficiently but there is certainly a development in tactics and formations and potential to continue to deploy systems that haven't yet been seen.
    Either way there is a lot of football to come and we should expect to see significant levels of development over the coming months if or until Arsenal find a settled team which may or may not last long term given the flexibility demonstrated so far and the potential to increase this with different levels of availability.

    Where I'm at is there is still not enough depth.
    With Saka outside of the general play we missed his set piece delivery.
    We are an Saka, Odegaard and Havertz injury from the season being write off.
    Granted sterling is an upgrade on Nelson and Merino is an upgrade we can't expect Saka to play as many games. City had Graelish and Foden on the bench.
    Tomiyasu is a frustration with injuries too.
    What I'd add is it's early days, city will drop points as they are conceding goals we just need to be on the ball.

    Tbh the Bournemouth loss was down to midfield selection on the day. 3 DMs and 4 CBs started the game while we without our 2 most creative outlets (Odegaard and Saka). This was a game to have either of Trossard or Nwaneri in the 10 role to increase the creativity in the final third with Martinelli out on the left from the off. Probably should have stuck with Rice and Partey as 8 and 6, as has been in place so far this season.

    I think Arsenal are in danger of self-imploding. They've performed well against the big six in recent history - but they drop points randomly against teams they really shouldn't - it was the same last season around Christmas and it cost them the league. Discipline is also an obvious issue and it's directly cost them a lot of points already. And with City around you just can't give points away.

    We are in a strong position, early in the season. We have had injuries and weird red cards to contend with and are still where we want to be. Last season we were worried we started slowly and didnt click. This is how we start seasons now though. We aren't going to blitz it as you can't sustain that (see us two years ago, spurs last year too). When we get pur players back and are ready to go, we will go hard and all of this will be forgotten. Its not a sprint. It is a marathon and we are in a prime position.
    As Loz has said, we also need to take a second and realise where we are now as a club. Celebrate that, cherrish this time. External media narrative will try to deny us that joy, but you can ignore that all and deprive their interactions/revenue

    Usually like your content but ngl This whole vid seems like a Strawman argument.
    Arsenal's current position is 90% on the refs.
    Since Arteta's appointment ; Arsenal have received a Red Card every 99 fouls commited.
    99/RC
    The second team has 150/RC.
    Does your eye test validate this data ? Are Arsenal the dirtiest team itl ?
    Can you find a picture of an Arsenal player in the last 5 yrs under Arteta lunging in like Lisandro Martinez did a few weeks ago ??
    Can you find a non Arsenal player getting sent off for 'delaying restart' ?
    Can you find a non Arsenal player getting double yellows within 5 secs ?
    I could go on & on. And No! This is not a case of "every fan feels the ref is against their team".
    Does the data validate Arsenal getting 18 Red Cards? They are 18th in terms of fouls committed.
    If a person who is committing the 18th most crimes is getting punished the most BY FAR- something is VERY wrong with the rules/their application.
    I have stopped consuming any content outside of a few Arsenal people. I have been watching games on mute for over a year because can't stand the commentary by Neville & Co.
    Because the only thing worse than the refs is the gaslighting after every laughable decision.

    Well, its been the toughest start out of any of the so called big six. Dropped points in the games we have been down to 10 men and arguably, all the reds we have received, have been contentious when you consider there has been a distinct lack of consistency in the ways that the laws of the game have been imposed. I maintain that an Arsenal with a full squad available is good enough to win the league. However, the FA and the refereeing may play a big part in this.

    When I say derailed dosent mean the season is over, just means Arteta and the club needs to adjust and find the best path forward
    Also I understand why this is unexpected, arsenal had 2 reds in total for the last 2 season in the league (one two yellows and one straight red), 3 in 8 games would be a surprise to any manager for that matter.

    I understand we weren’t great against Bournemouth with 11 men but we’ve just seen 11 men Man City go 1-0 down at Molineux and come back to win. These things matter and can end up deciding a title race. I just hope it evens out over the season but given the state of officiating in this country and especially how we’ve been reffed, I can’t say I’m too hopeful.

    Our fans can be super reactionary and lose the plot. Are start to the season and league position is fine, especially given the difficulty of our fixtures and the red cards.
    I find it hard to believe in a conspiracy against Arsenal but the decisiond are ridiculous and its very tedious to be gaslit by fans with goldfish memories about the validity of nonsense decisions. "Letter of the law" do me a favour. The consistency of these decisions is beyond laughable and it could very well be the differnece between 1st and 2nd/3rd whatever.
    So yeah that sucks but broadly situation is fine. There are questions about performance but i just think with any sort of reasonable analysis those concerns are fairly minimal. People bring up stats about possession or field tilt or whatever and say "even with the red cards it's still a probelm". No, it simply isn't. We've played a hilarious amount of minutes while a man down. Last season Arsenal had the best xG differential, highest average defensive line, field tilt champions etc.
    There are questions - over depedence on certain players, needing more technical midfielders, lack of strength in transition. But for any team that isn't City, there are always going to be qiestions, and you are going to need a bit of luck. The year Liverpool did win the league, they were unbelievable. They also did have a bit of...call it luck, call it the wind blowing your way. Things lined up for them that year. Just the way it is when you're up against City. There's nothing to worry snout, and Arsenal will grease the gears and again be in the title race deep into the season, maybe even win it this year.
