- I this video I'm giving a tour of my balcony and my roof,where I grow my orchids.In my balcony mostly I grow phals and oncidiums.And on the roof I grow higer light requiring orchids like vandas, cattleyas, dendrobiums, epidendrius etc

Enjoyed touring your orchid space n understanding light requirements better. I am currently battling this issue in my east facing balcony...as my orchids have grown larger n r competing for space and light!
Thank u ma'am 🙂 🙏I had to create this rooftop grow space and move my larger orchids there for the same reason...🙁it comes with its own challenges...Odisha ia a cyclone prone region..so everytime we have strong winds..I run and remove as many orchids from my roof as possible 🥺 yet to find a permanent solution

Thank u 😊 max temp reaches upto 40 degree Celsius..yes the vandas,dendros,cattleyas n all stay outdoors... Few sensitive phals..if they show signs of stress I bring them inside..
Our max temp reaches 46C. I am shifting my orchids inside for April & May. But they have bloomed only once in last two years. I dont know what to do...

Mam, I have learnt a lot about light requirements that you have arranged for your orchids.
But it would have been better if you mention the light units required for different orchids.
And the device that I can use for that purpose.

Do orchids need showering in summer? How to keep orchid leaves clean mam?
Yes they do...to keep spidermites problem at bay ..mites appear mostly during the summer months so better to give your orchids thorough showering atleast once in every 7-10days during hot summer months..
The showering will get rid off dust an all as well

As you have mentioned that most of the-orchids- are kept under the shade net, if it rains , is it ok for the plants...
Thank u 🙂my vandas , cattleyas don't mind rain... dendrobiums sometimes develop some spots...they stay outside only...if it continues to pour for days together I move the sensitive ones indoors...this time I'm planning to put a polythene sheet on top of the shade net during rainy season...they can get slashes from the sides that's okay. .
Also I skip watering for a couple of days if it rains heavily someday...

One question...if in winter northern wind harm orchid....
My balcony is westerly facing so afraid of keeping my orchids there as it gets full afternoon strong sunlight. The window where I have them is northerly facing .... is brightly lit but doesn't get direct sunlight . Plants are doing ok ..... but not blooming. One option is to shift to a window which is south-westerly facing. Would really appreciate your advise .
If you have Dendrobiums,cattleyas and vandas they can pretty much tolerate the western exposure...if u r worried they may burn..u can try putting a sheer curtain or something which will soften the light...n if u have phals u can continue growing in the northern window they don't need any direct light..they will bloom when season comes🙂
u said in some videos, some times u took orchids inside home to protect from heat, but the light intensity reduces inside home, will u use any lights or normal home light to help them
When I bring them indoors I try to place near a large window or a balcony glass door which remains naturlly bright all through the day..

I am told they are also reasonably priced. Do they have a good range of orchids?
Amazingly beautiful. Now that summer is coming up will the high temperatures affect the plants kept in terrace? How you would be handling it? Wouldn't it require more shade
Thank u 🙂the plants in terrace are quite high light requiring ones... additionally I will be misting them 2times daily to increase the humidity..that will reduce the chances of burning ..and I think I might add one more fence panel on the eastern side if I see signs of stress as in yellowish leaves...the temp here is already 40 deg celcius ..they are looking quite okay 🙂

Hi...no I don't use fungicide routinely..I use very minimally..keeping in reserved for severely infected plants...👍
Where can I get pahalanopsis orchids in bbsr ...??
RPRC dissent have phal or vanda Orchids..they only supply dendrobium plz suggest where can I get phal orchids in Bhubaneswar or Cuttack...
U can brief out light and other requirements for particular varigent by discussing on single topic at a time eg: discussion on only vanda ...anyway was good try ....hope to see some more good video GOODLUCK
