    Thanks for taking the time to get back to me. I have been looking at a lot of videos and reading about it, and I am video chronicling my progress. When I get it all figured out I will be posting my own vids on reddit. The 03 xc90 t6 is very different than the other volvo's. It has a chain drive attached to the angle gear and its packed in real tight, and no other videos out there

      Hey Matthew Dodge. Did you got a chance to get a video on the Xc90?

    • @matthewdodge42
      @matthewdodge42 4 роки тому +1

      @@crespo8369 No. Never got it done. Because of the larger motor and twin turbo on this model, the angle gear will not fit out the bottom. The only way to do it is to yank the whole stack, or remove the whole subframe and drop the stack out the bottom. These models have a completely inferior transmission system, and are not worth rebuilding anyways. I will probably junk this vehicle. Pile of happy horseshit. Fucking Chinese Ford Volvo. Nothing like they used to be. Very disappointed and disillusioned with this piece of garbage.

    Triple Edge Performance rebuilt my GM Tranny on my Gifted 2003 XC-90. After Trans install Bevel gear leaked. When removed it was toast. Volvo sold me the Bevel gear for there cost. What else do I need to complete the install? New bolts? Ect. Liked and subcribed! Thank you very much for your hard work!

    Just tore into a 2003 volvo xc 90 and have it on blocks and apart to the poi t of bevel gear removal, but can't seem to get to the last few bolts and there's not a lot of room to get it out. Is there a way to finish removing it without pulling the whole stack out?

    • @ThePracticalMechanic
      @ThePracticalMechanic  5 років тому

      Just saw your comment. Were you able to get the bevel gear out. I have heard the XC 90 is more difficult than the XC70 and it could be because the turbo interferes with access. I have done several XC70s but never an XC90.

    • @ThePracticalMechanic

      Del Shores there will most likely be a bearing that is damaged. Sometime the housing gets damaged as well when the bearing failure occurs. The unit will need rebuilt or replaced if case is damaged.

    • @ThePracticalMechanic
      @ThePracticalMechanic  5 років тому +1

      There are several seals between the two units. Depending on what fluid is leaking will identify the seal that is bad. ATF or gear oil. It’s harder to tell on manual gearbox vehicles.

    Question; "Will the car *Neutralize* if these bevel gears strip completely?"

    • @ThePracticalMechanic
      @ThePracticalMechanic  5 років тому +1

      I don’t think so since the right front axle slides all the way through the angle gear into the transmission differential. You should still have power to the front but it might make loud noises.

      I'm not sure if you can convert the vehicle to front wheel drive by removing the bevel gear. You may have to change the right front axle as well and I can't remember if the FWD version has a support bearing for the RF axle. If so additional brackets may be required

      The xc70 transfercase took the right rotation before it came out but it just barely fit. Can you lift up on the engine slightly to gain some room? You might also be able to unhook the torque mount on top of the engine to be able to rotate the engine slightly in the engine bay to gain some room underneath.
