One of the great American movies featuring one of the greatest pairings of American actors. Whether it is Newman and Redford or Redford and Newman. Unlikely there will ever be a pairing like the two of them. Sheer perfection as a movie and incredible chemistry among the cast. The movie resurrected Joplin's music most deservedly. And no CGI!
…back when “class” and “style” were the norm. Personally I don’t have much stomach for most things thrown at us today. I’d listen to The Entertainer 45 at nine years old with headphones! I could not get enough of it. It changed me. This was in 1976! I’d give my life savings to go back just for one day.
What music, what movie, what actors... everything is a masterpiece in this wonder
from what i've picked up piecemeal over the years, Scott Joplin's late19th century brothel piano compositions were largely forgotten, but in the late 1960's were being gradually researched, recovered, recorded. Film director George Roy Hill ended up finding Marvin Hamlisch to adapt it for The Sting, though the film takes place in the 1930's, long after Joplin's music lost popularity (but gave rise) to jazz. With the film's terrific success, generations of young piano students, as well as "serious" music scholars and general audiences, would become enchanted with Joplin's music, and take it to heights of popularity Joplin could probably never have imagined! oh, art, you capricious master.
A perfect movie and music to match. Joplin/Hamlisch combination a winner...and that All-Star cast unbeatable.
I'm not positive bc it was so long ago, but I think this was the first album I ever bought with my own money. I was ten. Saw the movie like 5 times in the theater. I'd pretend I was a con man.

I watched The Sting with my Dad when I was 12 years old this movie and this soundtrack bring back so many memories it gives me chills. God I love this movie.
my also loved this song she use to have the record at the times. l am playing this song even she is not with us my mum had passed away on the 20th April this year she was 92 & l was her care she was living with at the time to the end of her life l miss her so much RIP l do hope you are with all your bothers & sisters😥🙏

Even as a little kid (5 years old) I remember when my parents bought the 8-track of this a few months after The Sting was released! Brings back memories.
We had the LP, and i used to sit in the living room listening to it all the time. Miss those days. Finally found an LP of my own and play it for my kids now.
Beautiful tune, it reminds me of ultra cool Paul Newman and his prodigy Robert Red Ford and the brilliant Robert Shaw.

A great movie and soundtrack

This and Cabaret are my two favorite soundtracks. When this was released in 73, I was in college and had had classical and dixieland jazz piano training. I had an electric piano (Wurlitzer model 200) in my dorm room. I can still play a bunch of the songs, having figured them out from the soundtrack. They are not correct, but they sound good!

For some reason I had this tune in my head thinking it was the tune from the movie 'Ragtime', but I never heard it when watching. It finally hit me it was 'The Sting'...both Classics in their own right❤️

Great music that conjures up everything memorable about a fantastic movie 🎥 picture. Could not have been a 2. Pity these actors were not able to work together on another project. In saying that, we did get Butch and Sundance. "WHO R THOSE GUYS", indeed.

Love hearing this, but at the same time it also angers me something fierce that Scott Joplin never got the true fame, recognition, respect and rewards he deserved to have in his life for his genius in musical composition, not just as a ragtime pianist, but as a legitimate musical composer of music as a whole.
Rest in Heaven, Scott Joplin and thank you always for the music you gave us from your mind and soul.

The 1st song sounded so beautiful with the 2 Clarinets giving the Harmonies. Epic! Joplin deserves more recognition for his amazing music. He is much more than just the composer who composed THE ENTERTAINER and MAPLE LEAF RAG.

...our house was devoid of any 'hip' musik, my parents preferring the ancient psalter hymnal psalms... this album was a panacea of hip 20s ragtime jazz, references to whores (hooker's hooker) and other tasty tidbits that helped bridge the gap between the boring and the sublime...
They always associated it with that theme, unfortunately, without assessing the quality of music.
'they' being ppl in general? actually, the tasty tidbits i think most ppl recollect are completely musikal in nature...
Scott Joplin un verdadero genio de la música, lastima de haber sido estigmatizado por ser negro en el país segregacionista . Jamas se le hará justicia y se le reconocerá su obra en la real dimensión que merece.
