I have been called naive my entire life. (I turn 50 this year.) What the people who call me naive don’t know, understand is that it isn’t naivety, it’s choice. No matter how bad the humans I have encountered are and have been to me, I choose to see the good in each and every one of them. That’s funny you mentioning cartoon characters.My ex-wife recently told me to watch Puss in Boots: the last wish. She said that I reminded her of the character Perrito. The character always looked at the bright side of life and in people. Even though he has had tough life. He still kept on being joyful because he felt the universe always would give him what he needed at the time. After watching the movie. I did see myself in the character.
