It's funny because I don't think of Sherman and Lushun as similar at all - though now that your mention it, it's something for me to ponder now. 🤔 Sherman feels way more awkward and slow to sail, even though Lushun is no race boat.....also, Sherman's torpedoes are nigh unusable. While Sherman defends like no other, Lushun attacks very well. True that Sherman's smoke is a great asset for hiding from airplanes which Lushun doesn't have - plus Sherman's AA is just better than Lushun's in general, but as with any ship, there will be situations she performs poorly in. For example, chasing the enemy after winning your flank in the Sherman is basically a non-starter with her top speed of 33.9 knots, as is chasing pretty much any ship on the edge of your gun range. Luckily for ships like Lushun, there are modes which offer matches with no CVs at Tier 10 frequently. Sherman is a terror in randoms of course - especially in the right hands, but she only rarely makes an appearance in clans/ranked etc. I think these boats both have strengths for their preferred modes and they'll largely stay out of each other's territory. To unlock Lushun, you'll have to buy 5 phases. You can buy them one by one for 1,950 doubloons OR you can buy a starter pack which provides a discount. The "Smooth Sailing" pack gives you the minimum number of phases you have to buy with money (five phases for 7,000 dubs or about $28 USD) and it saves you 2,750 doubloons (about $11 USD) over buying them one at a time. The "Full Ahead" pack costs 11,000 dubs ($44 USD) and gets you 10 phases at a pretty big discount (savings of 8,500 dubs, or a savings of $34 USD over buying them one at a time) - except that you don't have to buy 10 phases, you only have to buy 5. So people who buy this larger pack are just wanting to get Lushun faster. Last thing - if you buy phases but still complete the combat missions to unlock them, for each phase you both paid for and completed the mission for, you get 250 steel as a little bonus. At the end of the day, the cheapest way to get Lushun is to buy the "Smooth Sailing" pack. The fastest way is to get both packs (though this costs about $72 USD) - and this method nets you a little steel as well. Hope this helps! -Clyde

That's for watching Boris. It's a good boat, but doesn't play like Khaba/Kleber, she's a good little gunboat though! I hope you can get it, if you decide to.
Well i wasn't around for the Smalland. Since this ship is similar, I will be satisfied. I will have to wait until it goes to the armory, I don't play enough to get it in the dock yard. 🤨
Hey Robin - thanks for watching! I do recommend you watch another video or two about the ship. She's not a Smaland clone. While they do share some features, they are rather different in many ways too.
Not at the moment - Dockyard ships have only come back a couple of times, with a second version of the Puerto Rico dockyard - which was a rare and big deal - and then the couple of different early dockyard ships they put in Santa Crates two Chirstmas events ago. Hopefully they bring her back - she's a great little boat!
@@ClydePlays I took a year off from ships and been watching some of your videos to catchup on things. I think I missed the one boat I may have cared about, damn! 😂
Hey Bill! When we score ship capabilities in this video series, we are rating them against those of other ships which may have different equipment. When WG balances ships, they do so across multiple aspects - when we as players pick a ship to play, we look at multiple aspects. We chose a whole ship in aggregate from the list of all ships. Because of this, we can't limit our comparison of Lushun's torpedoes to only include other ships with deepwater torpedoes any more than we could only compare them against other ships with torpedoes that have an 11km range. I hope this makes sense and explains a bit about how I'm approaching these comparisons - of course there are many ways to approach this problem. All of this said, a 3 is a good score. I really like these torpedoes and they are a powerful tool for Lushun. If she had standard torpedoes with similar attributes she'd be an even better destroyer killer - making them deepwaters is a balancing move for this ship, plus it fits the national flavor.
Nope that dd is not for me , I have Vampire II and I love it , I have Forrest Sherman , I have Marceau I dont feel need to get her , this is ... pan Asian DD , I feel nothig to that tech tree , there is no sentiment there , and I have now 4k db on my account , I would need to spend cash on game , why I would do that ? , 12.8 WG will add airship escort as one of options to random , and that mode will be terrible there ! , I will play ranked co-op and if WG add that mode there too , I just quit game , so yeah Lushun is not for me.
Haha, probably not. I've only seen one I think in clans this season - though I've been tempted to try it while my group is still in Bronze/Silver. Thanks for watching!
It does NOT have "Better guns than the Smalland"; Smalland HE outperforms the Lushun; only AP is better dpm. Lushun HE dpm is pretty low considering the rate of fire.
He did mention that Smalland has better HE DPM. But that is only potential DPM. But you also have to take into account the shell travel time and accuracy like Clyde mentioned. Shell travel time is very important to me. Lower travel time makes everything so much easier
Hey everyone! First off thanks for sharing your thoughts here - and secondly, hopefully nobody felt too tilted by the video. I recognize that DPM is the primary stat that many players look at when deciding if guns are "good" or "bad" however its far from the only attribute worth looking at. I'm going to throw a few thoughts out here - but please don't take this to be argumentative - I just love talking about ships and hope these comments are of interest to you or anyone else who comes across this thread. // DPM For HE DPM, Smaland is the second best DD on the list - right behind Marceau. Both of these ships have incredible damage potential and terrible shell velocity - its how WG keeps them from being too powerful (or...at least tires to). For HE shell Velocity Marceau is ranked 22nd out of 25 destroyers. Smaland is far better, ranked at 16th while Lushun is 5th. Lushun gives up DPM for enhanced shell velocity (she's ranked 10th for HE DPM). // VELOCITY & HIT % As we all know - higher velocity shells ar easier to hit with. Most captains will hit a higher percentage of shells on small maneuverable targets with Lushun than they will with either Marceau or Smaland because of the large difference in flight time/velocity - plus Lushun has better dispersion than both of those ships (just baaaaarely) and they all have a sigma of 2.0. Obviously, an incredibly skilled player at the helm of a Smaland can overcome some of that poor velocity - however that same player at the helm of a Lushun will still land a higher percentage of their shells with Lushun. A higher hit percentage brings you closer to your maximum theoretical DPM, so while the "spreadsheet" says Smaland has a MUCH higher DPM, I think it only has a slightly higher DPM in practice....hmmm....I should do an experiment on this....new Deep Dive video idea? // FARMING Lushun suffers against Smaland and Marceau when the targets are large and easily hit by anyone. It is a simple fact that farming down a Kurfurst is going to be MUCH better with Smaland or Marceau because they have more DPM and hitting large targets with floaty shells is easy. When fighting a small, nimble target at the edge of your gun range however, Smaland doesn't make connecting your shots on your target easy - and Lushun does. // LUSHUN VS SMALAND When it comes to 1v1s between Lushun and Smaland - the poor maneuverabilty of Lushun is certainly an aid to Smaland captains, (though if smaland's speed boost is on cooldown, she's even slower than Lushun). So far, I've only had two fights with Smalands in my Lushun. Both were 1v1 fights and I won both engagements. I'm a pretty medium-skill player, so its certainly not down to my incredible skills. And I'm TOTALLY going to lose a fight to a Smaland someday - its only a matter of time. // CLICK BAIT, HOT TAKES, & TWO INTERESTING SHIPS I like both Smaland and Lushun and I love this discussion because I think its not an open and shut case....As I told another commenter elsewhere on this video - some players are gonna say, "Lushun? No thanks. Gimme the 50k HE DPM advantage and the Radar any day." Others are gonna say, "Nah man, gimme the shell velocity and that ridiculous heal!" Is the title click bait? Maybe. That's up to you, I suppose. This is a video series called Hot Takes, and I agree that this could be a bit of a hot take for some, but I genuinely prefer Lushun's guns to Smaland's. Full stop. That said, if i could have Lushun's guns, Smaland's radar and speed boost, Lushun's heal and concealment, Lushun's AP pen (25mm better than Smaland) ...hell yeah, I'd go for it! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and dropping a comment here. Take care!
Hey Shawn - thanks for watching. :) I think a lot of people will choose Lushun over Smaland when Smaland is banned and because of availability. In the same way Nevsky was banned which provided some room for Brisbanes to show up in recent tournaments - but I agree that OG Smaland fans are gonna stick with her when they can, for sure.
@@ClydePlays Clyde, love your vids and think you're good for the community, but what you said makes no sense. "Choosing" a ship over a banned ship isn't REALLY choosing. Lushun is NOT nearly as good as Smaland so you shouldn't sell that idea to people. Best dock yard ship since Puerto Rico II, but not a substitute for Smaland. C'mon boss.
That's a fair comment Shawn - choosing over a banned ship isn't choosing. I'm not trying to scrap with ya :) I kinda like that we disagree here - it means the ships are interesting - but I can't call Smaland or Lushun a clear winner, I just think its worth holding them up side by side and considering which one works best for a given player. For me, I genuinely really like Lushun, and I think Smaland is okay. Partly, this is because at 12km, I personally have a hard time landing Smalands slow shells on targets....this is certainly fueled by my personal (and possibly demented) love for the soviet DDs - I tend to favor high velocity destroyer shells mounted to durable, scrappy ships and Lushun really ticks that box for me. To be fully transparent, I'm a pretty average player too 53.X% w/r with an average account PR of like...1220? Superunicum uber-Chads might have a very different opinion of the ship based on their experiences in things such as KOTS etc....and honestly, I'm not qualified to speak to that level of play. I'm really excited to watch the ship get released and see the community's reaction to it and where we do and don't see it used going forward. Smaland easily outclasses Lushun in Torpedoes (I like Lushun's torps, but smalands are better), AA (its like twice as good on Smaland), HE DPM (tho Lushun beats Smaland with AP), speed boost (which both of these ships sorely need), and Radar - which reaches a full 2km longer than Lushun's hydro. Lushun has more hit points/healing, better conceal, better shell arcs (unless an island gets in the way), 25mm more AP pen, and a higher base speed. I think that's worthy of discussion - some players are gonna say, "No way man. Gimme the 50k HE DPM advantage and the Radar any day." Others are gonna say, "Gimme the shell velocity and the ridiculous heal!" I hope this comment lands well with ya, but if it doesn't know I'm just talkin' ship - not trying to "fight ya in the comments." :D Edit: Glad you think its the second best dockyard boat. :) I'd say its probably top three for me...haven't decided if i like her more than ZF-6 or not.

There are LOTS of trade-offs with gunboat DDs for sure, but I think Lushun comes out all right! Thanks for your comment. :D
Equally important, is Lushun going to be a chore to grind?
Great question, and unfortunately I don't know! We got a little bit of info in this week's patch notes: worldofwarships.com/en/news/game-updates/update-127-lushun-at-the-dockyard/
Actually, I really hope so. That would make this ship more rare. It might even become more rare then Smalland.
@@ClydePlaysNowadays we get more critical with grinding. Paying for the extra anxiety is not my idea of entertainment.
For sure! I'm guessing it'll be a chonk of work, being a tier ten, but hopefully it's an entertaining grind and not a stressful one.
first of all thank you for your video like just i press when i saw your video well the dd is good as i see it is like khaba only you trade speed for concealment and hudro i think it is fair first i want to see the missions weegee will put if it will be easy i think i will buy it now this monster has a weakness and it is called druid i think this monster can kill anyone but not the druid or elbing
@@ClydePlays I will look at other videos and thanks. 💯
Can we still get this ship somehow?
Not at the moment - Dockyard ships have only come back a couple of times, with a second version of the Puerto Rico dockyard - which was a rare and big deal - and then the couple of different early dockyard ships they put in Santa Crates two Chirstmas events ago. Hopefully they bring her back - she's a great little boat!
@@ClydePlays I took a year off from ships and been watching some of your videos to catchup on things. I think I missed the one boat I may have cared about, damn! 😂
It happens - there's a pretty cool looking US DD coming up called the Johnston! Check it out on the WOWS Dev blog!
It's everything neaustrashimy dreams of being. I wish her reload was not 4s.
I have long said the same! Thanks for watching. You gonna get Lushun?
You shouldn't mark the torps down to a three for not being able to do something they weren't designed to do.
:(
JK - there are plenty of DPM destroyers for sure - people don't need to get all of them. Thanks for watching, Adam.
smaland is banned from cw? soo may be lushun will be banned too
Haha, probably not.
@@rocketfishx3474 HEADLINE seems pretty clear, ok so its just click bait
I fought 2 lushuns , one on thursday the other this morning, lushun got smashed both times.
// DPM
For HE DPM, Smaland is the second best DD on the list - right behind Marceau.
// VELOCITY & HIT %
As we all know - higher velocity shells ar easier to hit with.
// FARMING
Lushun suffers against Smaland and Marceau when the targets are large and easily hit by anyone.
// LUSHUN VS SMALAND
When it comes to 1v1s between Lushun and Smaland - the poor maneuverabilty of Lushun is certainly an aid to Smaland captains, (though if smaland's speed boost is on cooldown, she's even slower than Lushun).
// CLICK BAIT, HOT TAKES, & TWO INTERESTING SHIPS
I like both Smaland and Lushun and I love this discussion because I think its not an open and shut case....As I told another commenter elsewhere on this video - some players are gonna say, "Lushun? Take care!
@thepeacewizardwow6383 you just have a different criteria for what makes guns good. For me it isn't strictly potential dpm
Nobody who knows this game would choose Lushun over Smaland... nice looking ship though.
Gimme the 50k HE DPM advantage and the Radar any day." Others are gonna say, "Gimme the shell velocity and the ridiculous heal!"
I hope this comment lands well with ya, but if it doesn't know I'm just talkin' ship - not trying to "fight ya in the comments." :D
Edit: Glad you think its the second best dockyard boat. :) I'd say its probably top three for me...haven't decided if i like her more than ZF-6 or not.
@@ClydePlays All the best Clyde. You spend way too much time in your own comment section but it is much appreciated and is probably the reason people love your stuff. Take care.
