- President Trump said he will direct Elon Musk to look for spending cuts in the Pentagon and at the Department of Education. It comes as a judge has paused Trump's effort to lay off thousands of foreign aid workers at USAID at midnight tonight. NBC News' Garrett Haake reports.

By cutting education, they're referring to removing programs that are wasting money and focusing on mathematics, science, and the trades.

what about world history or economics, financial literacy? teacher layoffs? inconsistent educational standards between states? quality of AP or advanced classes? cuts can still affect important disciplines. it can and will limit educational resources, even for stem classes. while cutting funds might provide a better incentive for pirioritizing core classes, there can be better ways to navigate redundant classes and expenses. it is not as simple as this comment makes it out to be. furthermore. cuts can and will affect the general student body which attend public high schools. there seems to be a preference for private/charter schools as well-- but those hold much less students. unless you're within that socioeconomic class, i doubt these changes are beneficial. with that in mind, is this really something as functional as you hope to clarify? decrease funding and quality of education for the common child?

They're referring to axing the department of education as a whole, per Project 2025. Which doesn't change teaching standards. It only kills struggling schools that depend on those finances; so now they'll have to depend on state funding.
In short, red states are going to get objectively dumber, given their tax policies, while the education in blue states gets objectively better, as blue states produce a surplus of tax dollars.
USAID was under 1% of the federal budget. But the Pentagon! We need to change our military’s mission to concentrate on the US. We need to bring all US soldiers home, close bases, cancel weapons systems and right-size personnel. Can you imagine the tax cuts!
How are we going to do that when he wants to take over Gaza, Panama, Greenland, and maybe Canada? It makes no sense.

Actually it doesn't matter, blue state or red state with the slogan "nobody behind" nobody repeat neither thought the students don't meet the basic standards. The system is broken..everybody pass ...the system need to be evaluated. Still worst ..with the use of too much technology..for example the kids in middle school don't do write assignments, they guessing multiple choice answers in math and ELA, they asking to Siri everything...they don't use the brain too much.
Of course, there are good materials and programs and some students use it and take advantage of the education but unfortunately they aren't the majority and instead are the minority of the students that really study and take advantage of the education. Happens that happens...hope it will be the best for our kids, education is a foundation of the future.

We already have government oversight and auditing of these departments. Neither Elon or DOGE have any security clearance for any of the information they have accessed, nor are the actually any part of our government.
It takes months to get that done via background checks, criminal histories, financial information, psychological assessments, etc Their access is illegal and lawsuits have already been filed in courts to hold them accountable. Trump has no legal authority to freeze spending already approved by Congress, this is also illegal and a violation of the separation of powers between governmental branches.
Multiple deliberate violations of the constitution by the sitting president will wind up with his impeachment or succession of entire states via mutual agreement. Or worse.

If Trump gets detained from balancing these budgets from, from finding equilibrium, he should declare his opposition as threats to the United States of America and our economy. He should declare it as an act of war to enforce all audits necessary to expose the exact spending. I as a taxpayer would be fine putting people on temporary leave while audits are made and budgets are suspended.He should deploy whatever means necessary to make sure that there is no miss use of funds.
