I brought my 15-year-old son to see a production of this on stage. The concessions woman looked at my son and asked if I was aware of the plot, which was sweet of her. I told her, "he's a theater kid, we've got this." :D
At first it was a play writen by Jean Poiret in the 80' in France. They made a movie of it ," La cage aux folles" and a second and a third one.

Were you thinking of Nathan Lane? Another great film released 30 years ago, Philadelphia, stars Tom Hanks as a gay man - also stars Denzel Washington. If you haven't seen it, i would recommend it for your channel.

Incredibly well written and acted, and Natives are behind the camera, in front of the camera, behind the money (Taika is one of the main producers), and more! 3 (4? Shoot i can't remember right now) seasons and done. Story told. Soooooo powerful and glorious, the character arcs, i think you'll love it. Truly
