  • I came across this little Oil Can sitting on a shelf at my local Reclamation Yard.
    It looked like it hadnt been used in a long time although apart from its grimey condition it is in good shape. During the strip down and degreasing stage a few little imperfections and holes started to show, I carried out the repairs on the holes using solder as a filler since the can itself is built this way I thought I was a more traditional way to repair it. The small dents I managed to tap out with a Hammer to a point where only a small amount of filler was needed. I tried to achieve a higher standard with the painting this time so I carried out Wet Sanding on the base coat before applying the laquer. I am happy with the results although I know there is still room for improvement, If you enjoyed the video or you feel you have some advice please feel free to leave a comment below and Ill do my best to reply.

    This is a hobby for me which I enjoy doing in my spare time. I am not a professional Restorer, Painter or Fabricator and I know some of my techniques may not be upto the standards of some professionals on here. Having said that if you think you know a better way to complete these works I would be happy to listen, I will learn from each project to bring you not only a nicer finished piece but also a cleaner piece of editing.

    Nice restoration! I have one similar (don’t know the maker) it was my fathers but still works everyday even though I’m retired now. And everyone that comes into my workshop has to pick it up and try out the pump. Everyone likes the sound and feel. I don’t mind until I run low on oil!

    Very nicely refinished. That would have been a great project to powder coat. Powder coat last many time more without scratching and marking. But it does look very nice either way. Thumbs Up!

    That's quite an old one with the brass draw tubes, pre-1959. I've recently uploaded two Wesco restorations..... Some have a date stamp on the bottom or handle 👍🏻🛠️

    • @UniqueRestorations
      @UniqueRestorations  3 роки тому

      Thanks Armando, there is some writing on the handle but it's a little bit worn. Nice to know it's in that age group, I originally thought its maybe 70s. Thanks for watching. Regards Brian

    • @ArmandoLoni
      @ArmandoLoni 3 роки тому +1

      @@UniqueRestorations The 1959 one I did is date stamped and the tubes are nylon.... The 1970s one I did is not date stamped (cost saving?) with a very different 70s-style logo. The metal tube versions must pre-date the nylon as they'd be more expensive to produce 👍🏻🛠️

I have 12 or 15 in a collection Ive been adding to for years and I would really love to be able to figure out how old they are! Thank you!

    Hi. I have just purchased a Wesco oil can. I followed your instructions and the can does not pump oil, can you advise please?.

    • @UniqueRestorations
      @UniqueRestorations  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Chris, if it does not pump you could check if the spring is worn inside, if its weak the oil could squeeze back out into the can instead of nozzle. Also check that the tubes are in perfect condition so they seal against each other when pressing lever. Good luck. Regards Brian
