    "Technically, that landing was horrendous."

    Thx!. You really are a good instructor and your videos are perfect for my M2000-training. The journey was somewhat confusing before this :-)

    hey Reiver, cool videos: one quick tip: you may quickly get your prep to you dest waypoint by clicking dest twice. This works in both ways: double-clicking prep will fetch dest wp

      Great tip! I'll try it out and incorporate it into my next video.

    Good job. The parachute is an emergency system. Do not use it to a normal landing. The Mirage 2000 don't need it to slow. After aerodynamic braking use the wheels breaks. They are very efficiency.

      I don't actually use the drag chute when flying missions myself. I just included it in the video to show it was an option.
      Touching down at 140kts IAS and it's easy to bring it to a halt in less than half a typical runway length.

      @@reiver1-1 Thank for your answer. A lot a players use de drag chut to stop the Mirage after landing. It's for this reason, what i prefer say it. I understand why you use it in your tuto. ;-)

    From the point of a newbie, I didn't have APP on and the symbology was missing. I didn't see the mode mentioned anywhere (except in the title at the beginning) in the previous videos, nor in this one... or I'm just missing something.

      APP is mentioned in the 2nd example. 👍

      @@reiver1-1 Ouch, sorry, I must have missed it. Just press 3 (by default), I can see it now. Great series, BTW, and also quite recent, which is very important with this module, sometimes updated with quite substantial changes.

      No worries. 😀

      @reiver1-1 I also noticed you had no warnings on touchdown - did you do something with your autopilot? I read the Chuck's guide where it's mentioned (page 90 and on). I didn't do anything special, just a mission with a single landing WP and it always triggers the warning.

    • @reiver1-1
      @reiver1-1  4 місяці тому +1

      @@virgo47 Warnings are given on touchdown if your trim is out of its neutral position, which could be dangerous as you roll down the tarmac. Resetting the autopilot cancels the warning and sorts the trim.

    FNG question, when coming to land how does one figure out which strip and direction one is supposed to land?

    • @reiver1-1
      @reiver1-1  Рік тому

      Now that is a big question with many different determining factors.
      The first factor that is usually considered is wind direction. You want to land into (against) the wind rather than behind (with) it as this gives you more control and reduces the chances of stalling. Wind is normally quoted as the direction it is coming from, not the direction it is blowing to, so a wind of 020 at 12 kts is blowing from 020 towards 200.
      The two runways at Akrotiri are 10 (approx 100 degrees) and 28 (approx 280 degrees). If my wind was blowing from 220 at 8kts, I would choose runway 28 as this is best of the two options to meet the criteria above.
      That being said, if there is a human ATC online, they may decide to route you to runway 10 for other reasons (winds are light enough to be insignificant, damaged touchdown area at 28, faulty lighting or ILS equipment etc.)

      Is this when using the Route Desired function on a visual approach?

    • @JPROP-vb7sv
      @JPROP-vb7sv Рік тому

      @@reiver1-1 yes sir

    • @reiver1-1
      @reiver1-1  Рік тому +2

      @JPRO1400 P The RD function can be somewhat inaccurate if you are close to the waypoint it is guiding you to. As you have to make a tight and quick turn, you inevitably end up overshooting by a fraction of a mile.
      To get the most out of RD, increase the initial distance between you and the waypoint. Usually, if you start 10nm away, it will guide you perfectly onto the correct radial.
      If it still isn't working, make sure that your Route desired is set to the true heading of the runway and not the magnetic heading.

      @@reiver1-1 One addition to this: the course entry in the INS goes into a decimal point, which the F10 map doesn't give, that's one more thing why it can be inaccurate (and this makes the runway edge lines show incorrectly with IFR landings). This is one thing the DCS devs didn't have foresight with, and this touches upon the Mi-8 DISS Nav computer too.
