Worked for Hertz in 94 , abused lots of mondeo, really handled well brakes faded quickly speed bumps taken flat out ended up with 11 points !! Worth it for fun factor !!
Still an excellent, solid car that is far better built than lots of the modern crap on the road. Great handling and steering feel that modern cars could only dream of.
I had a Mondeo 1.8 hatchback from 1997 -2017. Excellent, reliable garaged, cleaned, valeted, serviced and loved. Absolutely gutted to part with it. Exchanged for a Mark 4.Chill Silver Mondeo Edge. Beast of a car. Good looking , spacious and a delight to drive.
@@adorabasilwinterpock6035 Just your opinion and opinions are like arse holes in that everyone has one. The facts are Ford is alive and fairly well and Saab is a distant memory. Even the Mondeo outlived Saab!
I think this model was called the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique in the US. They were a joint venture with Mazda in building these cars. I have not seen a contour or Mystique in years. They were a typical rental car or other boring Fleet type car. They were not very reliable. I think the other car they spoke about was similar to the tempo and Mercury Topaz. They were replaced by the Contour in Mystique.
The Mark one Mondeo my Uncle had one from 2003-2007 an N Reg Light Blue one. 1.8 I was a passenger with him in 2006 and when turning to go down the narrow residential road dropping into second gear pushed 2nd gear to 60 MPH reving at 6 and Half thousand Revs and then said look 60 mph in secomd gear thinking id be impressed i said yeah my ford Escort 1.6 mk5 would do that only i like my Gearbox and dont want to leave it behind on the road.
The Mk2 looked a hell of a lot better (if you call New Edge better than what came before), and with a decent set of shocks and sway bar links, even the V6 would handle really bloody well for a FWD sedan. Pity they had diabolical electrical systems in them and an even worse automatic transmission that, for some reason, Ford thought it would be a very good idea to continue producing well past year 2000. My old Mk3 ST220, however, I would have to say that was by far the best car I have ever owned
Getting rid of the escort name was actually a very wise thing for ford to do. The last model was a complete dog and the new model would have been off to a bad start if it had to overcome that reputation.
I had an old shape Sierra 2.0i S which was a brilliant car, handled great and felt quick. A few years later I got a new shape H reg 2.0i GLS with 10 more bhp, but it was gutless by comparison, I guess as the car was heavier. Also the handling was worse and so were the seats. I wished I'd kept the older one.
Yes. The last model Sierra was longer then the first Mondeo. The Mondeo was wider. The Mondeo got larger with each new model. The latest ones are longer than the last model Ford Scorpio.
Clarkson talking about "the man with the bad hair cut" is treading on thin ice there...
music brings back memories. dont think you could have soundtracks like this today.

Thanks for uploading these and keeping them alive!

Agreed, I think modern cars often have steering which is overly assisted which is good for parking but gives poor feedback during normal driving.
How do get a job like Jeremy Clarkson

I have a '98 Mondeo. I'm in love with it, stetically and mechanically
Which model have you got? I'm a big fan of older cars...i have a '78 Mk1 Cavalier and an '82 Rover SD1. Plus modern cars of course.
it is not possible to love a 1998 mondeo
@@adorabasilwinterpock6035 it is not possible to love a Saab, but you do. At least Ford have not gone bankrupt because no one but you loved them.
@@insertnamehere5146 Saabs have character, they’re different. A mondeo is just an appliance, There is nothing interesting about it.

Everyone else was raving about the Mondeo at the time. Clarkson's opinion was very dissenting.
David Foster ....and he was right.
Love all mondeo's
Good ol Clarkson
Great for banger racing
A very American-style design for a European Ford
still looks good tho
My 2015 Mondeo doesn’t have a biro holder...

@Acceptable and Born InD80s LoL👍
Oh boy the Mondeo looks obsolete even brand new. The Sierra on the other hand looks good even today :D
I had the 1.8 lx hatchback... i paid £80 hahahahaha. I loved it
Did the person sell it for drug money?
I want a 1998 with 2.0 16v as first car
He put..... the key in the boot ?!?! I had totally forgotten that.
Mondeo mk1 great car
Gary Moore rip
Anybody know where he is filming?
Stowe school in Buckinghamshire and various bits of Northamptonshire.
Luke Crowley
Thanks
Ditto!
The Mondeo might not have been anything special but it was a huge improvement on the really awful lemon ie. the Sierra.
Dont be daft the mondeo wasn't half the car a Sierra was ,front wheel drive boring car
The Sierra was a cracking car. I had a 2.9 estate 4x4 Ghia.
And then the clutch went....
I got 155000 miles out of my 1995 Mondeo. Still on the original clutch when I sold it.
It wasn't how long they lasted that was the problem, it was fitting or having them fitted that hurt
i dont remember how miles i did with my mondeo..but 8 years i didnt change it..and the pre owner didnt change it
Even when the mondeo was new it looked old..
Hahahaha you pretty much nailed it in the head
I disagree. The design seemed very fresh, a much more modernised Sierra. This is 1993 and these kind of designs were still widespread by the late 90s.
Vauxhall Cavalier smaller and bigger than a Sierra? What the hell?!
Mondeo smaller than the Sierra? WTF
The 1993 Mondeo is 2 inches shorter, only in later years did it get longer.
Even though that car was new at the time, it still looks old.
Taurus>Mondeo

Why would you want an automatic anyway?
Clarkson ma wlosy?
Getting rid of names like Escort and Sierra was one of Ford’s biggest mistakes. Focus? Mondeo?! Really? 🙄
Getting rid of the escort name was actually a very wise thing for ford to do. The last model was a complete dog and the new model would have been off to a bad start if it had to overcome that reputation.
Used to drive a Sierra Sapphire now and then, circa 1990. Harsh 2 litre engine. Not a nice car.

The Mondeo is bigger ,than the Siera! !!!!
Second!
Rust buckets!
boring car, when you want to please to everyone, you please to no one, that's what first mondeo was
Ford Mundano
The Mondeo is a *very ugly* car.
Sierra have a timeless style ...
