Hi. I'm Sam, a railfan based out of Eastern Massachusetts. I film trains from all around the world and make narrated videos explaining how the railroad works. Thanks for watching and I'll see you out on the mainline!

PSR coming to an end would definitely benefit Amtrak.
It would benefit the entire economy excluding the class one shareholders
@@IndustrialParrot2816 I'm pretty sure it would even benefit them.
@@carlose4314Long term probably, not that they're thinking past next quarter returns
@@carlose4314 perhaps
The pandemic and its aftermath have revealed the emperor has no clothes and that the PSR model is detrimental to the industry's long-term well-being. Railroads cut so much fat they started cutting into muscle and it came back to bite them after the pandemic ended and they suddenly found they didn't have enough staff to operate efficiently. Multiple railroads have already stated their intention to abandon the PSR model in favor of a growth-based model. I think future railroad historians will view PSR as the railroad industry equivalent of a fad diet.
This Month was absolutely crazy.
Yea
Agreed
Congrats on the sponsorship! I feel the news is going to cover a lot more derailments ever since east Palestine, but I'd like to make clear that not all of these derailments are as severe as east Palestine, and I don't want the public to not support trains by only focusing on their wrecks, although I do feel that ending PSR is a great way to address this issue, as well as making sure railroads don't get too big for their own hood, despite the CPKC merger. Likewise, congrats to Brightline for reaching quasi high speed service before California, while that state also saw "high speed freight service" as that UP train reached 147mph before derailing...
The tech is so frozen in time. Heat crayons instead of cheap infrared meters is only the most blatant example. Combined with PSR, there is no conceivable way to even use the crayons on a consist. Undoubtedly the fixes will go way overboard with networked electronics and contractor boondoggles.
If precision schedule railroading does get canned, I can finally die happy.
im just shocked that a train channel got sponsored, awesome
I live along the soon to be CPKCS line between Baton Rouge and New Orleans and I’ll be watching this closely to see how frequent and long the trains are. Also looking forward to a new paint scheme.
Got your popcorn!
Also noteworthy: LA Metro, even though it isn't a conventional mainline rail, has broken the world record for longest light rail trackage.
As far as I’m aware, you’re the only channel that specializes in railroad news. I appreciate you doing that.
184 was repainted into Phase V because it had structural damage. Amtrak decided it was not worth it.
I won’t be surprised if the other 40th units get repainted soon (sadly).
I’m praying that the STB, congress, and the freight railroads can fix this mess eventually, even if some more chaos does happen. God bless the hearts of everyone impacted by those derailments.
I never knew Siemens is one of your favorite things to talk about here
184 was repainted in Phase V because it needed a nose cone replacement is what i heard and Amtrak is Amtrak.
It had structural damage...
I was just reading today that many of the construction sites for the new high sped rail in CA are flooded. The one they showed had several cranes sitting in deep water. It will probably have a major effect on the schedule.
Still my favorite rail related channel, and always concise and expertly presented.
As someone who lives in the town where the derailment happened in Massachusetts, I can say I am surprised that a train managed to derail when it wasn't even moving. Only on NS.
I briefly worked at a small yard terminal as a conductor trainee and I could definitely see the impacts of PSR. It made the people at the top richer at the cost of employees' wellbeing and safety. It must end
One way to stop this PSR nonsense is to do what the French rail workers pulled off before WWII. I'm surprised no one came up with this yet. I like to call it "malicious compliance".
Thanks for sharing the news my guy and happy Sunday!
I'm wondering if April would have more railroad news
Yeah, I was in Boston on the 18th, and it took me almost an hour to get from Fenway to Harvard. I almost missed my commuter train home that day.
I can’t wait for the New York To Scarton with Amtrak
Ooh, exciting!😊
Awesome video as always! Congrats on the sponsorship!
First it was BNSF now it will be CPKC? That's awesome!!!
I saw the amtrak 50 year anniversary unit today in upstate ny
The railroads are looking like Penn Central railroad because of deraileds
My boy has a sponsorship now congrats
Great recap man, hey what's the out-tro music I been tryna find it for years
I live 30 minutes from the Siemens plant in Lexington at 2:40😂
In rail preservation news:
-More and more steam locomotive restorations across the United States are progressing
-The crews of Virginia & Truckee tourist railroad in Virginia City, NV expect to have former Santa Maria Valley no. 100 operating sometime next year (2024).
-D&RGW narrow gauge 2-8-0 no. 315 is back under steam after a 1,472-day FRA inspection.
-EBT officially announced they will start restoring engine no. 15 next.
-Since the CP-KCS merger has been approved, the railroad is preparing their steam locomotive CP 2816 for a special tour from Calgary, AB to Mexico City, Mexico to celebrate the merger.
-The John H Emery Rail Heritage Trust sent grants to 19 different rail preservation projects across the country, including some steam locomotive restorations/rebuilds.
I took the MBTA in March, slow zones were crazy
You forgot to mention that Diesel Motive Company BUGX purchased an F45 from GECX that is former ATSF 5989 and plans to be repainted into the SPSF Kodachrome scheme and then eventually a Museum
I live in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, a container port and we have CP trains paired with NBSR trains hauling out containers, hopefully we'll see KCS ans Mexican locomotives up here.
ain't no way bro got a sponsor
How did I not hear about the merger until now, considering how big of news it is? Oh wait, people are still freaking out about another train thing.
There was a Franklin Park Illinois derailment. wasn't horrible but it shut down the Franklin park yard for a few hours. I was there went it went off the rails
Excellent video! Greetings from Ukraine!
Why do I have the feeling that did the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern it's about to be the new Penn Central Railroad. And they're just going to go straight downhill
This is the best for a railfan
You should include UP 1988's crash on the next one
Just as an fyi, you missed a couple maine derailments, one at leeds junction, one on the yard lead to rigby yard in portland
I thought for a moment this was going to be an April fools video... then I saw it wasn't uploaded on April 1
Great news! we got a new IV heritage unit, #164!
CP and KCS were the 2 smallest class one railroads and even after merging they will remain the smallest which is why they merged they couldn't keep up with these massive railroads around them
I'm not sure derailment frequency is increasing, rather just the reporting of it.
LESSGOO our boy has a sponsorship 🎉
Fantastic channel. I was not aware of the KC and CP merger.
Tri raíl paint looks ok but I prefer the old ones. I know they’re outdated but it is what it is.
The BNSF derailment occured on the swinomish reservation And the railroad had broken a contract with the tribe also it wasnt that Minor
Wow....cp and kcs....this is going to be wild.
I had 184 leading on the California Zephyr I took from Chicago to San Francisco. The paint was in pretty bad shape - large chunks of it were flaking off on the nose.
7:28-7:38 ugh UGH UGGGHHH and finally I'M SORRY A WHAT?!
Okay I still want to work for a railroad someday but for sure I'm going to either FEC or RBM&N
This is your brain. This is your brain on PSR. Any questions?
Awesome Video
This could be it! We could finally get a nationalized rail network! (Either that or they’re just going to resurrect the ICC which I really hope doesn’t happen)
Hoping it doenst look like CN
Great Video! Great Channel! 👍
1:58 AMTK 157 got its stickers removed
CP had 25 cars derail in montana today
Does anyone know Amtraks motives for repainting their heritage units?
No idea, they did repainted 184 for...
Seemly no reason at all
RIP KCS
You'd really think that e-ink or non reflective displays would be used more in transit
I'm supprised the new MBTA GM was not part of TMORR
You didn’t even mention Train Daddy returning to America for Amtrak
The CP and KCS are not two "massive" railroads. They're the two smallest railroads in North America, and the combined company will still be the smallest railroad in North America.
I'm still sad they repainted 184
@John the roblox trainfan and car enthusiast
It isn’t scrapped just repainted. How about RIP 184s Phase IV Scheme
@John the roblox trainfan and car enthusiast oh ok but I still think it’s better just to say the paint scheme because 184 is still operating just in phase V
Are there any member only videos yet? I might get a membership once there are
@@twistedwhiskers8776 wait now we have 164 in phase IV I'm ok now
6:54 Unfortunately, I don't think this is true about Tri-Rail. There are no announcements from the SFRTA about this, and the executive director has changed since the one shown.
2:28 *yay*
I have watched a lot of your videos. I have really enjoyed the content. I do have a slightly unrelated question though.... Where did you find that instrumental that was used for the outro? I have to hear more of this sound.
I think I found my outro song a few years ago so I’m not quite sure. Usually, I find most of my intro/outro/background music through my UA-cam and Spotify recommendations
What about the UP electrification in California and Arizona?
????
What are you talking about UP never have electrically
Now I've heard everything.
Thank you very much for this very interesting and informative video presentation which is very much appreciated by the people. There is certainly a lot going on in the United States of America at this time and one certainly hopes that the New York to Scranton line will happen. It is a sad case about the derailments, maybe the trains are a little on the long side which make it difficult to look back and check along the train to see if there are visual signs of problems.
I think this is a pretty bad take, honestly. Trains can pretty safely be very long, it's just the railroads don't like spending money on safety when that could go towards profits. I don't think you realize just how limited an engineer's view is
the adirondack also returns tomorrow
RIP P42
did any one else notice the flag is backsword on the locomotive for the Vancouver train?
Will you upload some videos about your travels in Japan?
Yes, the videos are in the works!
@@WorldwideRailfan Nice! Looking forward to them!
Welp, with CPKC existing
*I still won’t catch a single train lol*
CP and KCS have not merged yet, but they will soon.
Rip CP Rail 1881-2023 😥😥
Now you have to talk about Amtrak Harry Potter units
But to be honest I actually feel bad for the P42
40th
anniversary units
Make rail companies pay the fair price for derailments, and you should see less derailments in the future.
the train will repaint and re lettered it will be called CPKC in the future just like BNSF
also You should maybe talk about texrail Southbound expansion In your next videos of this month on the railroad Also you have to hear this meme from SpongeBob SquarePants I'm a goofy goober!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have to hear the this Sam The Amtrak Adirondack is back it Started service On the 5th Talk about that in April's episode of this month
for the railroad
And CP 7011
7:38 don’t tell me that’s El Cajon Pass
RIP MONTANA RAIL LINK!!
5:10 the c.u.m railroad
If there is one thing that annoys me with American Railroads is their lack of attention to their tracks… Machines do most of the work so it don’t make sense to me. I’ve given up the thought that we will get high speed rail in my lifetime so the least they can do is having the tracks go over 100 miles per hour.
RUNAWAY UNION PACIFIC?!
wass up with amtrack?
Runaway Union Pacific?
WHEN IS MAY'S EPISODE OF THIS MONTH OF THE RAILROAD COMI!NG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, when?
No credits to Railfanner Aviation for the pic of 184?
My bad, I saw the pic on facebook with no original owner attached so I wasn't sure to credit
@@WorldwideRailfan ok, sounds good!
@@bnsfunionpacificfan Added proper credit to the description. Thanks for letting me know the rightful owner of the 184 pic!
@@WorldwideRailfan Why did an empty CSX coal train derail in the New River? Rockslide?
@@bnsfunionpacificfan Why was there a runaway Union Pacific train in California?
Any news about April 2023?
yo hit me up with some of that sponsor money fr
Isn't part of the Lakawana Cutoff now occupied by housing developments? I wonder how this will be address. Also, are there a lot of grade crossing on the cutoff?
