RULES:
The object of the game is to be the first player to earn 4 to 8 green apple cards depending on how many players there are. Pick one player to be the first judge. He deals 7 red apple cards to each player, including himself. The judge draws the top green apple card from the deck, reads the word aloud, and places it face-up on the table.
Every other player now races to place a red apple card from their hand, that they think is best described by the green apple word, face-down on the table. If you’re playing with 6 or more players then the last red apple card played is returned to the player. If you are playing with 4 or 5 players, then players are allowed to play down up to 2 red apple cards from their hand, one at a time, and the first 5 red apple cards on the table are accepted, and all others stay with the players.
The judge mixes up the face down red apple cards so no one knows who played which card. The judge turns over each red apple card and reads them aloud, then picks the one they think is best described by the word on the green apple card. The player of the selected red apple card receives the green apple card played by the judge.
The judge collects all the played red apple cards from the round and discards them to the box bottom. Each player draws red apple cards until they have 7 in their hand. The roll of the judge passes clockwise and the process repeats, until someone has enough green apple cards to win.
LOL. All the comments saying this is the clean version of Cards Against Humanity. It's the other way around. Cards Against Humanity is the dirty version of Apples to Apples. (Apples to Apples came first.)

I am a high school Social Studies teacher, and I hate games. The first time I played this and realized the concept it became my favorite game of all-time. I think a slight variation of this game is much better. The judge picks the top few choices, and allows each person to make an argument for their red card selection. As long as you have a good unbiased judge, the game becomes perfect for teaching people to think critically and make arguments.
Sidenote: I played this game with a family that didn't get along too well, and it forced them to communicate on with one another on a subject that had nothing to do with family conflict or past history. Awesome game on many levels!

Nawaf Miah So if we are playing with *4-5 players*, then we go in order from one person to the next placing down either *1 or 2 cards* and when ever there are *5 cards on the table* no one else can use a card? (For example if there are four players, the first two players put down 2 of there own cards and the third used one card, the fourth player would not be able to use any of there own cards *since there would be 5 cards on the table*)
@@jonathangomez9901 All players, except for the judge, place down a card as soon as they can. There is no order. The players *do* take turns being the judge though.
I think this game is just as enjoyable as Cards Against Humanity. With A2A, the best (i.e. funniest) card combinations are often the ones that are the most bizarre, controversial, mismatched, etc. like JFK Assassination and Patriotism. People are too quick to dismiss this game because "it's not dirty, therefore it's not fun". Does a game need to be dirty to be fun? And if you need it to be dirty, couldn't you find easy ways to make it so? Guess Who? has potential to be quite raunchy, for example.
I haven't played A2A in years, but hopefully they've updated it culturally. Much of the late 90s/early 00s references are outdated.
We love to play this game backwards. Whatever card provokes the funniest reaction usually wins.

I was playing cards against humanity with some friends but then my lil bro wanted to play so we switched to the unused apples to apples in the junk drawer so he could play, that’s how I got here.

It doesn't really matter for gameplay. The judge chooses whichever red card they like best and the person who put down that card keeps the green card as a point. If no one were to claim that red card as their own, no one would get a point and the game would move on, but that would seem like a dumb thing to do. ;-)
