Trust me, The King is just getting started. The way the king Barou develops, definitely the Villain.

1:08 you pretty much called it, Magy. Barou's backstory in this episode doesn't really inspire that much sympathy.
He's pretty much playing football for all the "wrong" reasons. Maybe not a villain but more like a dickhead on steroids.
That pass to Isagi definitely broke something in Barou and damn if it wasn't a pleasure to see it!
Barou discovering that he can actually dribble like crazy is such a good twist! Given how the episode played out until this point, we expected him to pass again to Nagi or Isagi but he actually evolved after being humbled down and he settled the game. Still a dickhead but at least he's back on top of his game!
Thank you for the fantastic reaction, it's cool to see how much you're enjoying this anime ❤

      1. Backstories don't need sympathy and I actually found his backstory very inspiring
      2. He's playing football for the right reasons
      3. Being mean, tough, and arrogant/cocky is a good thing not a bad thing
Not trying to hate that's just my thoughts

@@chessnerd1055 Having an ego is definitely a great thing, which is what this show is all about. Being mean and overly arrogant is generally not, that's the whole reason Barou even had to get humbled in the first place. He never really lost that lead role (or "main actor" as the manga puts it) before and he could always blame his teammates for a loss in a game, thus causing him to become arrogant, which is how he put Team White at a deficit. Thankfully for Barou, Isagi's adaptation dragged Barou's mental into the gutter to force him to confront the reality that he wasn't the star of this field for the first time, which resulted in him evolving and playing smarter using his insane dribbling skills.

@mrjollyguy25 sure that's your opinion but I disagree. Imo you absolutely have to be mean and arrogant if you want to be the best. Guys like messi and ronaldo know they're the best player on the field and they'll bully you until you want to quit

@@chessnerd1055 "overly arrogant" was the phrase I used. I think we more or less agree on arrogance, just that we're approaching it differently.
I agree that you need arrogance, as in the sense that you are in fact superior and will beat anyone. What I was referring to is that you cannot let arrogance cloud your judgement. Barou had arrogance but an excess of it, and it led to delusion. He believed he was SO good that he could keep playing as he always did despite the mounting evidence that he could not. Team Red was beating him again and again.
Isagi devoured Barou and cut him down a peg to reduce the excess arrogance. Barou for the first time realized where his limits were. It was then that his arrogance allowed him to continue fighting for his own ideals, except now he knew how to play smarter because he acknowledged his limitations. His arrogance and confidence in his dribbling is what allowed him to score that epic last goal, he just had to understand how he could pull it off (chop feints, using Isagi as a decoy because Barou had previously passed to him). Barou needed to be humbled by Isagi first so that Barou could utilize his arrogance correctly to score a goal.
Disagree on being "mean." Lol that's just a personal preference. There are in fact extremely successful people who are not "mean" in fact most are considered nice because that's what buys you social capital in this society.

    Ep 19 SPOILERS:
Wow I'm so impressed that Magy has been fairly on point with her predictions throughout the series. But damn she was dead wrong on her prediction here, Chigiri was always going to be picked because he can devour others too. Guess Magy just loves the whole Nagi + Reo dynamic too much lol
