    I just purchased these skates . I haven’t skated in over 8 years . My last skates were “Deshi carbons “ excited to try them out

    This is why I love The Internerd ... I'm just trying to get into skating and this review has just saved me from wasting some moolah - if only for the fact that my odd body runs hot - especially my feet, so your comments around the plastic structure changing with heat seems pretty relevant to me. Thanks for taking the time to post this :)

    I have owned 3 pairs of 909s
    Two aggressive and then the 80s
    All three are the original laces for breakfast in two or three sessions
    Even the 80s just skating with my son they destroyed The laces
    But other than that
    My favorite skates
    With the intuition liner and my wide feet i can wear them for hours with little to no discomfort
    Great video

    I will concur the laced laces do a good job on the 909s, I use them to really crank down and bring the high volume shell together more 🙌
    I really enjoy the skates and as a 275er I'm eagerly awaiting the Shmedium!

      Same I can’t decide if I want to get a small 909 to try, or try new skates. 9.5 shoes but the mediums just seem a bit too big

      Make sure you buy the new generation 909s, dont go for some cheap ones online. The new boots have harder plastic & better hardware. The company literally started less than 10 years old, and each year they have only improved, they have come from cheap plastic to harder plastic. I dont blame THEM bcus ant time you start something new you have to work with what you can afford and maximise the next time with the profits from the first time.

    The Fruittech hardware is Torx not Hex. Totally agree on the laces. Love my Pat Ridder 909s. Great Vid.

    Great long-term review, Brandon. Not sure if you've already done this, but linking this on IG and tagging THEM could go a long way. They listen, as you know. I'd love for them to use better plastic on the soul plate and fill in the buckle protector with plastic. Cuff bolts are another issue although I love the design. Hope they can keep the design and make them better.

    Those are in great shape for a year old. When I was skating and pushing myself, I would go thru 2 pairs of skates a year, street skating. Thx for the content.

  • @jadrollervlog

    I think the clacking you were getting was something I actually liked about older them hardware. Depending on the wheel, bearing and spacer combination, the older them axles would tighten on themselves before they tightened down on the bearing and spacer. I actually preferred that even though it was clacky. But that way if you had a bearing spacer that was a smidge off you wouldn't crush your bearings. On my newer them frames I think they changed the axles and I noticed that it doesn't do that anymore. However your spacers need to be right so that you don't crush your bearings.

    My first day skating a brand new pair of the Them 909 Moopi skate, my cuff bolts popped off after doing 2 royales. Unfortunately, I was unable to find the missing cuff bolts and screws. So, I bought Fruit Tech hardware to replace the missing cuff bolts and screws. Unfortunately, the Fruit Tech replacement bolts, which I secured tightly, also popped off after several royales at the skatepark, yesterday. I spent half an hour searching for the missing bolts and screws but couldn’t find them. Like your skates, Brandon, the plastic on my skate’s cuff is extremely flexible and abnormally bendy; my guess is that the flexible plastic is, in large part, the root cause of my cuff bolts popping off. I’ve been skating since 1994 and never experienced such cuff issues on any of my skates until I began skating the Them 908 and 909 skates. It’s a tough position to be in because 1)I love the aesthetics of the skate; 2) they fit well; and 3) I want to support Julio and a skater owned brand with grassroots origins.

      Have you tried using blue Loctite on them, the rockerable cuff on the aeons does the same due to the cuff moving backwards and forwards loosening them. If you put quite a lot on it worked on my aeons.

    • @t3chno0
      @t3chno0 Рік тому +1

      First thing I did when they arrived is remove all the screws and put loctite on them. Not a single lost screw.. I did strip one soulplate receiver though.. but Jon Julio was kind enough to give me a free set at winterclash 👌.. Still bought. A bunch of spares just in case. I also had my doubts on the Thems for many reasons.. And I'll i can say is they are the best skates I've owned. Go for it... All boots wear down fast (depending on your usage) . I saw a AG10 carbon cuff buckle protector worn all the way down the other day same way as Brandon's 909s. Nothing is indestructible

    • @t3chno0
      @t3chno0 Рік тому +1

  • @keeponblading

    That flex in hot weather is pretty bad and I did not expect that. Let's hope they fix that by using better plastics in the future!

  • @t3chno0
    @t3chno0 Рік тому +1

    BTW.. You can fix the wheel clackiness by using adjustable spacers by WICKED like CJ Wellsmore and Jake from Loco Skates suggested. It's due to small differences in tolerances with different wheels/cores

  • @joew666

    I've got "fake" laces on my 909 as suggested by Austin Paz. I didn't need the boot to be tighter. Love not having laces to tie.

    • @t3chno0
      @t3chno0 Рік тому +1

      Same here.. Game changer IMO.. Who needs laces? (sorry Brandon 😅).
      Too many positive effects to ignore:
      - No more wasting minutes tying/untying laces, perfect tightness every time, you can put you skates of and on hella fast, no more laces dragging on the floor or looking floppy, etc, etc.....
      I bought 100mm of 3mm elastic cord of Amazon that will last my family generations😅😝

    I love THEMs but I do think the quaity could be better. Especially considering the minimum price for a complete skate is $340.
    1) Fix the cuff bolts (but hopefully keep the look as they look awesome)
    2) More durable soul plates
    3) Better plastic on the cuff and maybe the boot (boot seems fine though?)

    Interesting call on the cuff feeling soft. I'm currently in North Queensland and the summers here are crazy hot. I wonder if they will suffer in the heat? Hate to get a pair and feel like they have too much flex all of a sudden ?

  • @tawmifm
    @tawmifm Рік тому

    Maybe the cuff flexing is because of the swirl pattern? I've never seen that happen to any other skate... but I've never seen it happen to the Brain Dead boots so it could just be a weird defect

    Hi All!!
    I have a 908 3rd year, 6-9 hours a week. mine look much better. Broken 1 buckle. rust on rings. the regular liner was torn at the top at the edge of the boot, from the laces and in the places of the cafe bolts. The soul plate wears off quickly after a sess slide, from the pipe groove 3 mm. the cuf is just as soft. I only ride in the park. Now I want to order a liner and a cafe from 909 to lower the fit like on carbons.

    Maybe don’t reach out to Them. My soul plate was warped and my aluminium frame doesn’t sit flat.
    Julio never got back to me. I cut my loss, but that’s sad, as I don’t think I have bought new Them skates since then.
    I did buy about 4 pairs of Them skates prior

    If you hear this “click-clack” sound, it’s time to change the spacers on the frames. I had a similar problem. I installed one new spacer per axle and the click-clack sound disappeared.

    I use 45 inch waxed laces from Derby Laces. I feel ya on the plastic changing and feeling like your cuff is loose. I've been retying them, and redoing the cuff strap when this happens. Usually feel better after that
