Great shootout. I've found your Marshall videos super useful. Great playing. I felt the 1959HW Plexi clearly won when played with the SD-1. But SD-1 tones don't do that much for me - but it did sound great with the 1959HW Plexi. The overall winner for me was the JCM800 2203 ('Little Brother'). Sounded best of the bunch without the SD-1, and sounded good with it (close second to the Plex). Here I have the JTM, (and Vox AC15 & AC30). But if, or rather when, I was buy another Marshall ... it would be the JCM. It's not only metal the JCM800 excels at. They are all over indie rock records too. Like at 10:50 area, that was Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden and many others. Or My Bloody Valentine before that.
Bad Boy ftw. It's those 6550s. They're brutal glass grenades of metal. Have you considered doing a demo of a modern clean boost like the Fortin Blade? Would love to see how that works with your variety of amps.
Awesome video, the plexi was right there with your badboy! But slightly different! Amazing demo, makes you want to add a plexiglass to anyone’s collection.
Cool comparison. I currently own the DSL20 head and I’m going through a 2x12 with Veteran 30s. I can get super saturated gain at “reasonable” levels and that 80s metal/Whitesnake 1987 sound that I love. I’m also using a BOSS SD-1.
Thanks Euge for the comparison. Killer as always. 1959 HW most open sounding of the 3. I will buy the 1959. But i play mostly Blues and stuff ala Malmsteen, Satch. All 3 killer amps but i find the 1959 the most versatile of the bunch.
Between all 3, preferred the Bad Boy. It's got bite, crunch, oumph. The 1959 superlead sounded warm & smoother. The El34 Little bro 800 was darker than the BadBoy. I'd rather have a brighter amp i could warm up over a darker/warmer amp, i can only brighten so much. my two cents.
Every time I start thinking about more modern amps one of Euge's videos pops up and it turns into plexi vs 800 argument in my head. Marshall might be kind of a mess as a company right now but that's still the sound of heavy music for me.
If you want to cover them all, then a Synergy SYN-2 (or pair of SYN-1s, your choice) with the Synergy Plexi and 800 preamp modules is a good start; the red channel of the 800 module adds at least one valve gain stage for a generic, but fun, "modded 800" option without diode clipping.
It's hard to choose between SLP1959 and JCM800 'cos each of them both have its personal voice. 1959 is biting and sparkling, 800 is raw full sounding. I would choose both.
Loved this video! I have to go with The Bad Boy ... I have to ask though, were you tuned to drop Db and what is the story with the red line on the face of the SD-1 #2?
In this comparison I liked the "Little brother" best, it had clearer mids and the bass was started to rattle my desk, unlike the "Bad boy". Then I liked the fullness and the little darker sound (like Black Sabbath) of the 1959HW and the "Bad boy" was last, sorry Euge! Nice video, as always!

1959HW PLEXI. For the win here. That is the most important tone. Thanks for sharing.
Since I am a metal guy, the Jcm 800 is the clear winner for me!!
As a fellow metal guy, I'd like to concur
You may be a rocker, but you've got soul and thanks for inviting us into your laboratory. 👍
🙏🎶
Idk man I don’t think I’ve ever heard an 800 sound like the bad boy. That thing is special
It is.
I like all 3. You really know how to get the best out of any of these Marshalls.
🤟🎶
Was playing a lot more with my Jim's 800 pedal but now I am inspired to play my actual JCM800 tube amp again. Thanks :)
Rock on!

It always comes back to the bad boy, but this time I really prefer the 1959 ! The first time !
🤟😎

Conclusion, the bad boy 💪🤘🏼 Great riffs as always
Each of them was great on its own! There's no other choice than giving all of them a proper home.
I noticed the 1987 left the line-up.

Thanks!
1984. Unreal. The Plexi is exactly as you described and absolutely sweet. I’m really starting to GAS for one!
👊🎶

You’re welcome thanks!
EL34 little brother hit nice and full with just a great edge
That's great thanks! They are not too far from each other sound wise. But those 800 has more kick and more direct punch. Great amps.
Indeed 👌🎶.
and that's why we can't have nice things.. you're always blowing something up.. :D
Hi euge, great video as always. Plexi wins hands down. Bigger mids and way clearer. Way more balanced.
Hey, thanks!
Excelente review Eugenio saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱🍻🤘🏻
I agree you have to have both. Nice review.
Dammmn, the plexy seems much clear/ pristine, to my ears 😮
JCM for rhythm, Plexi for leads.
I have a couple of 2203s, but I like the openness of the 59HW
Great tones
The "Bad Boy" is something special......

I’m gravitating towards the bad boy and the little brother 😜, although they all sound amazing.
🤟
Also what brand variac are you using for the 100 w
It’s custom made by my friend & amp tech.
Love these vids
Glad to hear! Thanks!

Little brother for the win on this one
🎶🤟

Thanks! Yes. Just some paint from somewhere. Can’t remember since it’s been there since 90s I think 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230VNow that you own a 1959, how does it compare to the 1987x? Which one do you prefer?

@@EugeValovirta230V Thanks! Is using the variac harmful to the 1959 using it at that voltage?
I’ve been using Variac for years and I haven’t noticed it doing harm to my Plexis.
Nice video, as always!
as typical, I prefered the Plexi for lead and the 800 for rhythm
Works great! That’s the setup I used on many songs on my forthcoming album 👌.
Bad boy is so hard to beat...
EUGE 🤘
both amps sound awesome, but i prefer the Bad Boy
Now stereo them without the pedal!
The Bad Boy is hands down the best sounding amp I've ever heard. Incredible tone!
It’s quite special indeed 👊.
Plexi Definitely sounds warmer, the other 2 sound like each other, very brittle
There really is something different with the bad boy.
Yep
The JCM 800 has far more Growl and balls...JCM 800 hands down

I have JJs on all of my amps; 6550, EL34, 6L6, 12AX7/ECC83 👌
Bad Boy wins hands down...
