It definitely a emotional experience for me when I get put on prednisone for a long period of time.. it’s physically and emotionally exhausting.. all the side effects are intense. The moon face is really just the cherry on top. This past year I completely had to change my mindset on how I viewed myself when on this medication. It was hard but I’ve learned to be proud of the my body for going through so much since being diagnosed.💓 and just reminding myself being on the medication is temporary..☺️

That is so great that you were able to change your mindset! It’s not an easy thing to do.

Hi Judith, how much of prednisolone you took daily and for how long? Did you get the double heartbeats, blurred vision, improper hearing, shaking fingers and legs as side effect as well? I'm sorry I'm asking too much but I've taken so much of prednisolone and I'm having very difficult time with it plus moonface scars me idk I how I feel about it. If you can reply, that would be helpful. Thank you.

Somatic excercises was a game changer for me. It was the raised cortisol and trapped trauma in the body that was causing the inflammation for me.

I’ve been in your same position many times being on long term prednisone. I have a autoimmune condition as well and last year for about 6 months I was put on originally 40 mg which then got bumped to 60 mg daily to try to stop an ulcer on my leg from growing. The moon face I experienced was horrible. It was definitely hard mentally trying to accept that I looked different but I always had to remind myself that it was temporary and the medicine actually was saving my leg. It was hard but definitely worth everything I went through. I totally feel all the emotions you are going through with it. I wish that during that moment I had someone to talk to going through the same thing. These videos honestly help so much because it makes us feel not alone in this fight with any type of autoimmune condition. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Thankful for your videos. It's nice to feel connected to someone around my age that has lupus! For my moon face, I also like using a gua sha facial tool to do a lymphatic drainage massage on my cheeks. It helps with circulation and pushes the fluid away!

I was diagnosed with lupus nephritis in the early 2000's and went on all the medications, including 60 mg of prednisone. Eventually I weaned off to a 2mg maintenance dose and after years discontinued that and the other medications because the disease became inactive (more on that later). I did develop the moon face while on the prednisone, and it went away eventually. Unfortunately, the long term use of prednisone brought on osteoporosis and I had to start therapy for that. I recently flared again, back in March 2023 unfortunately and it seems a lot harder to get things reined in. I am on 60mg a day and the moon face is back, it's tough managing my blood pressure and the osteoporosis has worsened in my spine and neck. I am feeling pretty self conscious about my face but every day I look in the mirror, into my eyes, and say "I love you, and remember this is only temporary". We all are attached to form and image but ultimately, you are all right, this is a lesser of two evils. My kidneys need help right now. This is an insidious illness and the medications are toxic, but keeping your vital organs functioning is the priority. Self love, self care, and loving support from community is so important. Thank you for the videos and comments and I wish you all well on your journey. I will end with advice I received after my first flare, that I did not follow. Do not discontinue your maintenance medications once your flare subsides. I believe a bout with Covid in May 2021 brought on my recent flare, but it took almost 2 years before I realized it was more than just the arthritis getting worse. Since I am older now, it's a bit harder to bounce back.

yeaaahhhh i was dreading this side effect. now that it's here though i'm like eh. whatever. it was more stressful being worried that it would erupt around the holidays and it'd be memorialized in pictures (it didn't end up being that noticeable), but now that all of that's over and my focus is just resting i'm like eh do what you want. i know i should embrace it regardless, and the moonface itself isn't that bad, but idk if i'm at that point quite yet. i still kind of hate myself and feel like i caused the flare, so taking it out on my appearance is easy to do. not super uplifting but that's where i'm at XD still just working through the emotional parts. thank you as always, friend

I have been on prednisone for a year now. Trying to wean off of it. I was able to keep my diet under control for the first couple of months, but everything else with my health that's going on, I ended up gaining 40 pounds. Weight gain, exhaustion, depression, not a fun set of symptoms, but it did maybe save my lungs. So, I do love my lungs more.

I've been om 30 mg at the most, which did not last very long, so I didn't get much of a moon face, only a little bit. It did give me a lot of pimples though, and I'm not only talking about my face but around my throat, shoulders and collar bones too. It was a constant battle staying ahead of that, but since I got a lot of energy from that high a dose, I actually had the energy to take care of it every day.
Thankfully I'm now on a low dose - 5 mg - and I have been for several years. Currently it's the only thing that keeps my body going. Without it I would not have the energy to do anything at all, let alone work full time, so I'm very thankful for how well it works on me. I still have issues with low energy, but compared to being without my medication it's like night and day. I don't get moon face at all on this dose, and my skin is normal too. Thumbs up for that :)

I got prednisone diabetes, moon face, insane hair loss and a bad bacteria because my doctor did not warn me or test (or saw me for the weeks I took prednisone. So now I am in the hospital. I feel like I'm no longer myself. I am slowly going down with my prednisone dosage and I hope that's going to help.
