If you are on the grand palace square, the hotel de ville is on your left you walk down the street and you literarily walk into "a la becasse" where you can get test samples or you know a 75 cl jug of any of the belgian beers you can possibly want. great if you are with friends. plus not that expensive. Locals usually go there to drink a pint. Brings me back to when i had a chance encounter with some american military guys ( now my closest friends). In horrible french they asked for directions so i said " you can ask in english" and after a bit of talking ( and the fact that the royal library was closed i had to do some research there) I led them around brussels ( history tour, food, and of course beer). One of them got so drunk we had to have him sober up at my apartment. "i can hold my booze" hehe good times. Yeah the brouckiere metro station is a big hub, its kind of like st pancreas but smaller but with the same dodgy people walking around. 100% agree, buy locally from small shops be it a mom and pop run beerhall, a pancake place, a regular shop and what have you. One suggestion: look up Steamboat. that is basically a baguette ( big one) with 3 large meat crockets stuffed in them along with belgian fries all the toppings you want and with whatever sauce you want ( mayo, bearnaise, pickles, and so on.). Make sure you have a great appetite though. Address cafe restaurant a la becasse: Rue de Tabora 11, 1000 Brussels Address where you can get a steamboat ( its litterarly 500 meters from a la becasse): it is called: Manneken Frites: Rue du Midi 30, 1000 Bruxelles. have great selection of different belgian dishes ( i love the frit special.. its with carbonade and a sweet n sour sauce with schredded unions)
It's always nice to see you interacting with people in their own language. The mussels they serve in Brussels are generally from Zeeland, from the Schelde, so it are Dutch mussels 😀

The "Americain" is a preparation of raw beef that is eaten either in a sandwich or in a plate with belgian chips and salad. Another speciality is the tomato with grey shrimps. And don't forget the best pralines (small chocolates) in the world !

I think you went lost, the mussels are less thanb100m from where you took the mojito😂 I also advise you the beer from pouchenelekelder in front of manneken pis and the frites of patatak next to bourse, the best in brussels, with nice terrasse and brussels beer on tap. Also enter the bourse it's wonderfull inside. And then the tipical caricoles from a mobile stand, easy to find on the foire du midi.

It looks so nice there. I have never been there myself, but my husband just returned from a weekend in Belgium. Brought us some delicious chocolate. My husband also got warned there by locals to park very carefully as it’s very common to get your car smashed and robbed if they see a foreign number plate. He met a friendly shop owner who let him and his friends park their car in front of his shop so he can keep an eye on it while they explore the centre.
Hi Ines, If you get a chance to take the train and go across the do so. It is a fantastic place for a nice fun weekend. Food is great the vibe is nice and the city is beautiful I don't usually drive there, and honestly once you are there, you really dont need the car. The chocolates are amazing, my favorite are the Leonidas ones but it is hard to find bad chocolate in Belgium so any of the brands is amazing. Thank you Ines so much for watching

We would go to Dunkirk from England first and then visit Bruges as well. If Brussels is the only destination, then the train makes much more sense, of course. 🙂 P.S. Ahh Sante Proost, a yard of yumminess I remember drinking yards of beers at British Pubs in the US and Germany but out of yard glasses. Bass Ale or something German. I think my record was 5 yards maybe 6 or 7 I held the record in the Prince of wales pub in Atlanta Georgia in my age group. it was over 20 years ago in the 90's shit 25 or more. . All those Belgian flavors I'm not into beers with fruit flavor anymore there was a time in the early 90's i thought it was the best thing on earth. I would still drink a yard with you the same one and suffer through it and eat some raw minced meat spread on bread that is my favorite pork is better though my favorite in Germany.
