@@bgsinvoice1407 Yep, sounded good in the clubs back then too, can't believe I've been enjoying this music for so long. Never gets old. What was lovely about the Aphex gig was the mix of old timers like myself and young people, all enjoying the same feeling now as was enjoyed many years ago.
Wicked, wicked, wicked tune. Very underrated compared to most of their other tracks. Lots of things going on. Very dark too. More of a Belgian techno influence than a typical, chipmunk, piano house raver. That screeching/scratching sample definitely appeared first on Set Up System - Fairy Dust (The excellent remixes were by Frank De Wulf). Fairy Dust was released (at least) 6 months prior to this. That's if one wants to go by full, official release dates and not test runs. I'm pretty certain promos or test presses of this tune were circulating and being played by DJs from at least the latter part of summer of 1991, despite of what the info of discogs suggests of November '91. Quite a few other artists sampled that scree riff too. Notably Tigers In Space with "Untitled Revolution," Strictly Underground Records during the summer of that year, Tim Taylor "Dementia" amongst loads of others.
A heavy, dark sound, instantly causing momentum and urgency in my cerebral cortex causing a transportation back in time to a field in Oxfordshire. God bless the Free Party People
I've just been watching a recent interview with Danny van Wauwe from Set Up System on the Musikxpress channel, and he claims that that the inspiration for Fairy Dust actually came from hearing Playing with Knives when it first came out. Apparently, he really liked the idea of the contrast between the harsher and softer synth sounds on that track, and wanted to emulate that. From the interview, it seems that that the screeching sample in Fairy Dust was indeed his find, but it's really interesting that Bizarre Inc should then sample THAT sample for Plutonic - which would find itself on the b-side of the rereleased Playing with Knives!
Soundtrack to my youth. God, I remember buying the cd single of this in Woolworths. I never played the main track. I just played this, over and over . Best thing on it. So many memories. Anyone remember skin up with "juicy red apple"?
The best flip side ever.Extreme variation throughout and represented that whole era-quality,quality times.Always used to hear this last thing.Think its because of the last minute, just class. The Prodigy's Your Love is not far behind though.
Man what a tune. Fucking evil as they come I'm sure not too many people would think Bizzare inc. could imagine producing something as hard, raw and way out as this track the name says it all PLUTONIC. Still frightens the fuck out of ya. I wouldn't be a fan of techno at all but the early english from the very early 90s with a sick break beat was awesome.
And to think that this was just a B side as well! This kicks the living sheeet out of any of today's dreadful music. I got this on 7" as soon as it came out back in 1991. The dance music from 1987 - 1993 was just off the scale, there was SO much creativity and energy back then.
All this talk of samples and no-one has mentioned whether this or Set Up System - Fairy Dust came first (ref. the woodpecker sample). Anyone know? Both 1991.
remember this from down Margate: Seduction 1991 - totally off me mash ! blinding use of that 'Charly' break - I've got that 'Future Music' sample CD too. loads of familiar breaks on there... happy days
I believe Fairy Dust used it first thanks to Mr Beltram This was released in Nov 91 but I can't find a definite release date for fairy dust. You can't even go by who used it in their sets first either since some DJ's got test presses over 6 months before they were in the shops, if they even got a big press run at all.
@alanbananaman hey mate, you obviously know this tune well enough,i havent heard it before to be honest but i recognise the vocals from another house tune. You don't happen to know the name of it by any chance......Lyrics go as "and its gonna be alright, because the music plays forever,it goes on and on and on.................."along those lines anyway.
The break actually came from either the first future music cd , or an AMG sample disc, every body was sampling , u will be very shocked if you know how many artists lie about their sources.
God this sounded so good when Aphex played it at Printworks last weekend.
agreed, place went nuts
Yes yes! Funny how Aphex leads us here after 30 years. Cheers!🤘
I too, am here from the printworks video
Should have been in the club 30 years ago when it was played.....!ndustry Dallas Texas......

Probably my favourite track of theirs. I've danced to this off my face on my own in my kitchen 😂

You've nailed it brilliantly. I particularly enjoy the abrasive sawtooth bass throughout the tune.
Thanks ;) Yes, agree, the sawtooth IS what gives this track its momentum and urgency imo. Heavy, dark sound.

Juicy Red Apple has one of THE best piano breaks of all time!! Tune mate :D
Not every apple is red
A juicy red apple is nice, but...
Had this on a viny single😂. It was the B side and by far a better tune. Loves it. I was only about 13 at the time.👍🏻

Best track from Bizarre Inc ever. Only other comparison that is equally as good would be The Prodigy Weather Experience..
Best dark track by Bizarre Inc.
This was an absolute monster. Had the 7” and played this more than the A side
And to think that this was just a B side as well!
This kicks the living sheeet out of any of today's dreadful music.

@AlexZemsk Ridiculous.
You'd never turn around a tune from nicking a sample to production to release in two months. Daft.
fairy dust came first, and it's you can hear that it's pretty obviously a sample in this track
@kirliannexx Yeah Im pretty sure your right.
