Kadisha Valley, also romanized as the Qadisha Valley and also known as the Kadisha Gorge or Wadi Kadisha, is a gorge that lies within the Bsharri and Zgharta Districts of the North Governorate of Lebanon. The valley was carved by the Kadisha River, also known as the Nahr Abu Ali when it reaches Tripoli.

ادي قاديشا أو وادي قنوبين أو الوادي المقدس (أو بلدة الوادي) هو من أعمق وديان لبنان. يقع الوادي في قضاء بشري في شمال لبنان ويبعد عن العاصمة بيروت 121 كلم ويرتفع عن سطح البحر 1500م. يجري في عمقه نهر قاديشا الذي ينبع من مغارة - تسمى بمغارة قاديشا - تقع عند أقدام "أرز الرب" التي تُشرف عليها "القرنة السوداء"، أعلى قمم جبال لبنان.

Le Monastère Notre-Dame de Qannoubine (Kanobin, Kannobin, Kanubin ou Qannubin, en arabe : dayr qannūbīn, دير قنوبين) est un monastère maronite de la vallée de Qadisha, au Liban.
Il aurait été fondé par Théodose le Grand et construit en partie dans le roc vif.
Le monastère Notre-Dame de Qannoubine a été le siège du patriarcat maronite de 1440 à 1823. Vingt-quatre patriarches s’y sont succédé.
L'église du monastère est construite dans un creux de rocher. Exemple de simplicité et d'austérité, elle est rehaussée de peintures murales. La fresque la plus remarquable est celle du couronnement de la Vierge par la Trinité avec une inscription au-dessus en garshuni (arabe écrit en caractères syriaque), tirée d'un passage du Cantique des Cantiques :
« Viens du Liban, ma fiancée et tu seras couronnée ».
Le monastère est occupé depuis 1992 par une communauté de religieuses antonines.

The holy river, Nahr Qadisha, runs through the valley for 35 km from its source in a cave (grotto) a little way below the Forest of the Cedars of God. The sides of the valley are steep cliffs that contain many caves, often at more than 1,000 m and all difficult of access. The most scenic section of the valley stretches for approximately 20 km between Bsharri (Arabic: بشري), the hometown of Kahlil Gibran, and Tourza (Arabic: طورزا).

It is interesting to hear the Abbot talking about the importance of identity and yet, the Maronite church was the first one to smother the Phoenician identity and heritage of the the Qannoubine Valley, as well as other historically significant places in Lebanon, like Baalbeck and Gebla in favour of the Syriac language and heritage. It would have been brave of him if he acknowledged the past, as the local Phoenician population eventually became christian and started to speak a medley of Phoenician and Syriac, in particular the church liturgy, and ultimately they arabised the lot. This and that, eventually killed off in one go any sense of true history in Lebanon in favour of the Arabic language and culture. It was seen at the time by the Church leaders that this move was necessary to accommodate politically our Muslim brethren -who are majority Canaanites anyway - in Great Lebanon. One will have to ask, what is the Maronite church afraid of here really?
Interesting. Do you have more infos about the transition between the phoenician culture to the syriac/maronite culture? I'll be happy to know more about this topic.

@@28Justchecking, I am from Australia,and my question was not politically, religiously or ethnically based. It was based on the pure fact that some religious sites are not tourist attractions and i respect that wholeheartedly. I tried to visit a catholic church last year and was politely told it was only open to worshippers which I respect and am fine with. So not sure where your coming from. It is the case with certain places of worship for other faiths.

Im Lebanese in Canada in yes in Lebanon we can visit each others worship places with no issue
And yeah they are touristic attractions
When you go to to visit a church better to be dressed respectful and not as if they are hiking and to be respected as if its your place and u r good to go
@@mohamadsowaid6275 Muslims also sheltered in this valley and you will see Soufis Islamic writing in Arabic on the walls of some grottos. The valley belongs to all Lebanese - and any visitors - before it belongs to a sect. You will be more than welcome as long as you care for the environment and respect the guidelines of the monasteries and churches etc.

Nice people and place however they lost the truth path, is it logical that god have a son ! and god can’t forgive humans without sacrificing !! Unfortunately what christians following now is not the original message of Jesus and there are many contradictions in the bible proofing that alot of what in the bible is not the word of god.
