@@gotacallfromvishal Now he's starting in a critical game 6 of the world series against the Rays. By far the biggest start of his career, not doubt about it in my mind.
He arguably should have won in 2012, and had a couple more taken away due to injury. He had the best peripherals in 2015. Could have easily won more during that seven year stretch.
@@FoolishBaseball Definitely 2012 he deserved it, I think it was just all the hype arount a knuckleballer like Dickey that made it a cooler story, otherwise I really think that was Kersh's. I would possibly argue that 2016 he was the best pitcher in baseball as well by most metrics, he just came about 10 or so innings short of meeting the qualifier marks because of his injury, but when he pitched he was by far and away the best pitcher to my (biased Dodger fan) eye. 2015 is tough because he was being compared to his own teammate who was having a historic year in Greinke and then of course Arrieta doing what he did in the 2nd half made their ERAs look pretty, and we weren't really as reliant as peripherals as we are now, so I can possibly let that one slide. 2017 I thought he had a shot, too, but I think Scherzer was the better pitcher that year. So I would say overall he definitely shoulda had one more, and you can possibly argue for 2 more on top of that
@Paul WT If you're talking about 2016, you really don't have much of an argument there if you look just at ERA - if it was based on ERA, Kershaw shoulda won that year with a 1.69 ERA, half a run lower than Hendricks, as you say. Kershaw even had a 0.725 WHIP, which is the lowest we'd seen in the NL in years. Therefore, I personally think Kershaw shoulda won because he was the best pitcher, but he missed time due to injury so his innings were low, so I can see why Max won. Max was the better overall pitcher when you consider IP, WHIP, and Ks, even wins (though I don't really care about pitcher wins). Yeah he was team was worse, but in baseball individual awards have nothing to do with team success because you can be the best player of all time but have a shitty team. If anything, Max should be rewarded for being able to pitch so well with a worse team behind him
I've been a proud Dodger fan since I could barely walk in the stadium with my gramps when Koufax was still pitching, but Kershaw's greatness is a beautiful thing to behold and sure brings a proud smile to my face.

He passed Koufax in strikeouts tonight and it brought a lot of haters out to cut him down. It's crazy to see people dismiss Kershaw, his career and accomplishments just because he hasn't won a ring yet. He still has a few years left and the Dodgers are set up to be contenders for all of them. He'll get his ring and maybe another to match. Hall of Fame is a lock and maybe even on the first ballot. Not every legend won it all in their first try. Roger Clemens went 13 years between postseason wins, then turned around and won back to back World Series.
I discount Koufax's career. He played 12 years, first 6 he was a bum. Only thing of note he did in that time was lead the NL in losses and wild pitches once each. Then he had 1 mediocre season with like 18 wins and a good amount of K's but also an ERA of like 3.90 os some shit. Then he went pitched like a legend for 5 years. Then he fucking retires at 30. I don't even think he belongs in the HOF. There's tons of other guys who had 5 or 6 amazing years then they had to quit cuz of an injury or their ability fell off and they've never been or won't ever be considered for the HOF.
@@fuktrumpanzeeskum He certainly belongs in Cooperstown. Those 5, 6 years were as dominant as any pitcher in history, leading the NL in ERA for 5 straight years, WHIP under 1.0 (average), pitching all those complete games, winning 3 Cy's when baseball awarded only 1 per season (until 1967). Leo Durocher said if he had his choice of just 1 pitcher to win 1 important game, it'd be Koufax. Casey Stengel, who saw them all up to 1975, said Koufax was the best he's seen. Pete Rose batted .175 lifetime (1963-66) against Sandy. Name a pitcher who had *THAT* kind of dominance, and accomplishments (stats) who is not in Cooperstown? He retired because of an arthritic elbow that doctors said if worsened could result in loss of arm. Watching him pitch from the center field camera, you can see why he had that injury.
"It was Clayton Kershaw's world, baby, we were just livin' in it!" got me reallllll emotional as a Dodger fan. I miss fawning over his unreal stats just a few short years ago. I hate that all of that is over. Thank you for taking me back

Still loving baseball after watching my Dodgers win it this year... Favorite year ever for a Dodgers pitcher? 1988 Orel Hershiser... But some of Kershaw's years are up there...
Kershaw is a special player to me. As a teen, I was lucky enough to watch his debut against the Cardinals in '08. I was there when he hit that homerun against the Giants on opening day' 13. He's a special player, a first ballot hall of famer and the player I'll be talking about until I die.
Ar one time, when people would ask me who I thought the best pitcher i ever saw was (I was born in 1971), I automatically said, "Pedro Martinez." I am not so sure I will still be saying that in a few years. Pedro's peak was unbelievable. But Kershaw is fast making an argument.

Watch the doc Knuckleball. In it, he answers all of those questions. To summarize, Dickey was a power pitcher in college.
Its not because he hasnt won a ring its because hes the reason they never won a world series
Thank you for taking me back
He was unstoppable. Now he is technically stoppable, although still very good.
This has more to do with recognition sincerely handed to him by us as fans than a roast of him. I like how you managed to say that without saying it, with lots of respect.
Thank you very much.
We need 1968 Bob Gibson, 1965 Koufax, 2018 deGrom, 2017 Scherzer and Randy Johnson
You can watch one of Gibson's World Series starts online and he just eviscerates everyone.
Screw all that. We need 2000 Pedro Martinez
Foolish Baseball Thank you so much for answering my prayers on that 99-00 Pedro vid. 🙏🏾
72 carlton 27 wins on a 56 win team 1.72 ers
HE'S GOT IT ALL NOW BABY!
“PEDRO, PEDRO CALM DOWN THERE ARE CHILDREN WATCHING THIS SPORT!”
Still loving baseball after watching my Dodgers win it this year... Favorite year ever for a Dodgers pitcher? 1988 Orel Hershiser... But some of Kershaw's years are up there...
Watching this video during the shortened season, 6-2 with a 2.15 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP. God Damn!
He turned in one of his finest performances in his career this past season. The man has been in his prime since 2009.
Kershaw is a special player to me. As a teen, I was lucky enough to watch his debut against the Cardinals in '08. I was there when he hit that homerun against the Giants on opening day' 13. He's a special player, a first ballot hall of famer and the player I'll be talking about until I die.
What’s crazy is his fastball velocity is back up
“good pitching is timeless” incredible video! thanks for the degrom shoutout my man- Drew_3k5
Ar one time, when people would ask me who I thought the best pitcher i ever saw was (I was born in 1971), I automatically said, "Pedro Martinez."
I am not so sure I will still be saying that in a few years. Pedro's peak was unbelievable. But Kershaw is fast making an argument.
6:49 then please do somethin about that Sherzer one! It's almost as terrifying as his face is IRL!
UPDATE: still good
I feel that even if his strikeouts decline later in his career, he'll still keep his ERA down. He's truly a living legend
I just discovered you today, watched all videos and loved every one. The mix of hard core analytics, humor and an approach of presenting the rational argument based on facts and not hype, click-bait and hyperbole has me subbed, belled, and waiting for your next video. Keep it up and don't lose your way when you get huge. It'll come if you keep delivering this quality of video.
HES NOT DONE YET !! i am a red sox fan but also love the dodgers for my NL team and THE CUBS !!
You forgot to make Scherzer’s eye colors different!
No, he didn't. Look at the borders around his pupils.
I'm a pirates fan, and I'd love to see something about RA Dickey similar to this. Or something. How in the world does he get so much pace on his knuckler, and where did he even come from?
Plus you get to watch some of his crazy pitches so I'm sure it'd be fun for you :)
Dickey's memoir is definitely worth reading
@@FoolishBaseball Ah so you already know about his wild past! His story is pretty wild, I should have known anything I know about baseball you know twice as well!
Keep up the great content man, and thanks for the reply! Everything you put out is awesome
Dickey is already prominently featured in that knuckleball doc.
@@lovelessissimo His story, sure. But not the analytics of knuckleballing, or what made him so great in 2012
Watch the doc Knuckleball. In it, he answers all of those questions. To summarize, Dickey was a power pitcher in college. He got drafted and during his physical, they found significant damage in his elbow. He messed around with a knuckleball during practice in college, so started to try to throw it in order to have a career since he was "damaged goods".
Dude I love the videos so much!!!! And I'm not sure who else would know this but I love your usage of final fantasy music!!
Wow that FF6 music sounds epic in the background, great production!
The reason I love this channel is it always has video game music in the background. Video games + sports =sign me the fuck up
Can you do a video on how, despite the star lineup, miguel cabrera, victor martinez, justin verlander and max scherzer all on one team, the tigers haven't capitalized on 1 world series in the current era.
He’s getting his ring this year to cement his place in history
I'm from the future!! I'm here to say in regards to postseason Kershaw...nothing has changed!!!!
I'm here from the further further future, and Clayton Kershaw is on the defending World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
I was at the 2013 opening day start. The greatest individual performance I’ve seen in person.
Ugh. He’s just about the only other Clayton I know of in sports, so I have to cheer for him. Especially since he’s always been such a beast
You get a thumbs up for the classic final fantasy music.
Thank you!
Foolish Baseball the type of guy to order a root beer instead of alcohol
Maybe a ginger ale if I'm feeling frisky
@@FoolishBaseball compromise: ginger beer
Lol
*Sounds like a good guy to me*
WELL WELL WELL HOW THE TURNTABLES HAVE...
I could watch anyone talk about anything as long as the final fantasy score plays in the background. Good shit man
Watching this on 10/10/19. I think Rendon and Soto wanted to comment...Ouch
HE FINALLY GOT ONE
Kershaw was definitely a sucker yesterday
Foolish Baseball is the best thing that's happened to youtube in years man YEARS
Great to see Kershaw killing it early this year after this video.
The one thing I noticed: why didn’t Scherzer have a blue eye?
Tim LaDuca he did
One more thing: wheres his black eye
So I was wondering... Was Clayton's 2014 campaign the greatest by a pitcher since Bob Gibson's 1968?
The only other seasons that came to my mind were Randy Johnson's 2002, Pedro Martinez's 2000 and Maddux in 95
Insane that one of the best regular seasons ever and one of the best postseasons ever by a pitcher happened the same year.
Who else here after this man finally showed up in the postseason
im sorry but its stupid you have 48,000 subs, you are one of the most insightful sport analyst on youtube, not just baseball, your videos are very well made and you are well on your way to being a top baseball youtuber.
You are one classic baseball geek. Excellent job.
TOM BRADY IS A SYSTEM QB. Great video as always, hopefully Kershaw can end the postseason narrative like Price did last year.
All it takes is one good run.
Tom Brady isn’t a system QB because he didn’t require to have a relented cast around him to make him work. He is a very 2D QB without the most physical and strong arm game but his intelligence and work ethic pushes him above the rest
HE DID IT!! Goodbye to the October slump.
"His prime is over"
- 2020 Kershaw: "Hold my gatorade"
you um... sure about that? dude's rocked a 175 or higher ERA + in 22 and 23....
This was 4 years ago buddy
@Foolish Baseball the Bowie references are great
Watching this video right after Verlander's impossible inning, can't believe you hit me with Chrono Trigger and Terra's Theme back to back... Never subbed so fast in my life
Who’s here after kershaw just won a ring
....2020 he did it!!!
The greatest pitcher of the decade,I’m a giants fan btw
Brother just wanted to let you know that I love your videos. You make them so unique and interesting and thats a gift to me. Thank you for your hard work for my entertainment.
Can we sit back and appreciate the fact verlander and scerzer were on the same team during that time. So fun to watch
Compares Max Scherzer to Clayton Kershaw
*innings pitched have left the chat*
Poor Kersh. We will never know if he would have gotten a ring in 2017 if those Astros Cheaters hadn’t cheated him out of one.
Stros went 2-2 in Dodger stadium I'm not sure cheating affected it that much
Kershaw watched this video in the offseason and decided to come back
growing up in cali and playing baseball kershaw has been my favorite player since i started playing baseball in 2011 and it’s sad to see him fall off
I’m going to request an update to the Kershaw Saga now in 2024.
Kershaw is going to go down as one of the top baseball players to ever win a World Series ring (he would be 2 in my books, Griffey would be one)
You meant never, and that didn't age well. Clayton Kershaw is a World Series champion.
