- I visit the impressive Dunnottar Castle, perched on a 160ft high hill top, 2 miles south of Stonehaven.
"Dunnottar has played a prominent role in the history of Scotland through to the 18th-century Jacobite risings because of its strategic location and defensive strength.
Dunnottar is best known as the place where the Honours of Scotland, the Scottish crown jewels, were hidden from Oliver Cromwell's invading army in the 17th century. The property of the Keiths from the 14th century, and the seat of the Earl Marischal, Dunnottar declined after the last Earl forfeited his titles by taking part in the Jacobite rebellion of 1715. The castle was restored in the 20th century and is now open to the public. "(Wikkipedia)

Hi Bob and Poppy thank you for taking us around the amazing Dunottar castle have seen pictures of it before but to go around it and learn about its history is amazing I bet it was an amazing feeling to go inside! The location is awesome and reminds me of tintagel being on a prominent headland

Yes, Tintagel isn't as complete of course, but similar location. It reminded me more of Dunluce Castle in Northern Ireland.

Good to see you in my back yard! We live just 8 miles south of Dunnottar Castle. Very good video, been years since we walked around Dunnottar Castle. Looking after the grand children for 10 days before we hope get away when the summer arrives?

Thank you for doing this video - we were there today, but I didn’t go in the castle as I don’t think our 3 dogs could have managed the steps (they are older and one had a cruciate op a few months ago) so I really appreciate the trouble you took to do this. My OH went to the castle though but doesn’t take videos.
It is quite an effort all those steps.

It’s an amazing castle. Like being in an adventure or fairytale. Btw, the kiosk beside the parking area, has got the best hot dog I’ve ever tasted.
