Lowa believe in durability & perfomance, not softness.

100% agree! I will take durable and performance over softness. Wearing the shoes right now. Love ‘em.

@@Engearment I think it's a problem of education. There's no shortage of soft shoes on the market. Highly cushioned and often minimally durable. They feel great out of the box but they don't always offer the support we need & they're consumables that we throw away once they lose that initial sheen and bounce.
It's easier and more profitable to make a disposable soft "fashion" shoe than a durable tough one that offers comfort. Comfort is what hikers really need and it's based on finding a shoe that fits your feet well, moulds to them over time, supports them, is stable across a range of terrain, keeps the elements out and remains comfortable for a reasonable period of time so you get more value for your $ spent. The comfortable shoe doesn't have to be soft to avoid blisters and foot pain. It must fit well, flex in the right way and absorb enough shocks without being floaty, which could be dangerous in any hiking trekking shoe.
People used to understand this because footwear was expensive, robust & maintained. It wasn't made to be thrown away. Something like a Church's brogue isn't soft in the way a Hoka trainer is but it's damn comfortable when you break it in. The same applied to workboots. They were a careful purchase where build quality and comfort were equally important. People saved for stuff and expected a quality product.
Lowa make those kinds of comfortable shoes. Most of their lasts work well for higher volume feet and they are made for high mileage use. Meindl have a similar philosophy as does Hanwag. Even when Lowa make a multisport shoe they don't want to trade softness for perfomance. For what they are, the price is very reasonable.
A few thoughts, perhaps inspired by Robert Pirsig & his meditations on quality in ZATAOMM.

Hi! Thanks for the review. I also found these shoes really well builds my question to you is these shoes tend to feel a bit tight for me (I’m US 11 and I bought a pair 11.5) around the ankle/upper foot area. Do you feel the same and did they break in a bit for you?

Hello! Well, I have "scrawny" little ankles, so I did not have the issue you are experiencing. Sorry!
Free marriage advice - never tell your wife that she has "sturdy" ankles. This is sure fire dog house material there.
      Take care!

Yeah, soft shoes, my feet simply cannot tolerate them! Hoka, Altra - while I would love to wear them - leave me in a lot of pain. Soon as I put on a firm shoe particularly at the heal, I am happy again. People love those big soles though and all the companies are producing them - fashion or actually good?

Hello! Great insight and note. I feel you on the some sift shoes not feeling as good as a firmer one. I go back and forth between soft with lots of heel, to firm with zero drop, to barefoot as often as possible. Gives my feet a nice challenge. Some people really like the extra cushion, so I feel like it is legit. Depends on the person and the use. Glad you found what works for you! Take care

Just to say, there's a mure durable and goretex lined version of this shoe now available called the Merger. It's a bit wider at the toe, or just feels that way to me, and the upper materials are tougher. They sell it for fast hiking and so long as you're not in very rough terrain it's probably good for that. It's also decent as an every day shoe so you could take on a trip where you have light hiking and urban walking, without feeling it's too harsh. Town to trail, as they say.

Thanks for the helpful note! I will have to check the Merger out! We are meeting with LOWA next month, and we should have a video on their upcoming gear. They make such good shoes and boots! Take care!
