- Exploring the streets in León doing some street photography, I got lucky with some dramatic light.
I had a 24-70mm lens with me, but why would I shoot street, urban, and travel photography with a 24-70mm zoom lens? Well on a recent trip to León in northern Spain, where I was to start a 315km backpacking trip to walk the Camino de Santiago, the 24-70mm f2.8 zoom was my main lens. I explain why...

The weather allowed for some great photos while I was exploring and shooting in León, a very successful few days!
Lovely interesting shots, Simon. I’ve never been to Spain/Portugal, and won’t get there now, so am enjoying these walking photo tours you’re doing.
Great shooting Simon, makes me wonder why I live in Canada and then I remember, ah yes several 100 million less people.
So glad to have just discovered this channel. Wonderful photography and interesting commentary. Now for the back catalogue. Subscribed.
Wow, thanks Geoff! 🙏🏼
Very nice! Also, just viewed your Camino film. I have a Z8 and only travel with carry-on, so I like your minimalist approach, gives me ideas as I pivot into filmmaking. I am curious what you used to hold up your camera in this video during your walk abouts. Great idea how you’ve put borders around your photos with a grey background, nice touch!
Thanks for the note. Having used both the Z8 and Z9 for travel now, the Z8 is certainly easier to carry around. I use an OpTech USA strap around my neck. It has some flex in it, and when held taught, allows for some very stable footage. Most of my footage is shot that way in my latest documentary film.
Beautiful, beautiful work my friend!! Loved being your roadie in Spain.
Thanks Dave. Roadie? I would say an incredibly good kind patient travelling companion. 😊
Excited to see a new video of yours pop up! I'm eagerly awaiting videos/updates from your Camino project. Thanks as always for your fantastic and informative videos, they help make me a better photographer
Thanks! new Camino Film Update video coming soon! 😊
Simon you have woven together a beautiful story through your amazing photos. I can’t wait to see more❤️
thank you!
Those cathedral shots in that wonderful light were excellent Simon! I am also looking forward to a week of photography in Spain later this year. Great video giving me a taste
Thanks James. It did mostly rain for the few days I was there, but a few fleeting moments and the resulting images made me very happy! Enjoy your trip. 🙂
Nice one Simon, especially enjoyed them Cathedral shots 🥰👍🏻
Thanks, yup, got so lucky with the weather conditions 😊
Great video I have done many Caminos I love your videos and photos thanks Buen Camino
Thanks, appreciate the comment! Buen Camino!
Some really fine cathedral images, and an enjoyable watch!
Thanks Neil, it was all down to the weather!
I love Spain, possibly a trip to Bilbao and San Sebastian in November and definitely back in February to Valencia. Some lovely lighting in the cathedral in your video.
Ooh, I've got San Sebastian on my list of places to visit. Great food there, in addition to amazing coastline! Look forward to seeing a video if you go. Enjoy!
Very nice video... I enjoyed it.
Thanks for saying so, much appreciated 🙂
Subscribed. I was on the Camino 1 day behind you. I captured my Camino Francés carrying an OM Systems OM-1 m43 digital camera with a 12-40mm 2.8 lens. I didn’t try video. I caught up with you in Santiago as I saw you were filming me pushing my bike along a narrow street. With any luck I might be in your Musical Camino documentary 😊. Love your work!
Hi Ian, I'll look out for that footage, lol! Great camera system the OM, hope you got some great photos. You should have come up and said hi, always keen to talk to people, particularly when they have camera gear. 🙂 Thanks for the sub!
I was pushing my heavy e-bike with a flat rear tyre carrying panniers and a backpack, so I couldn’t catch up to you and after filming you turned and went in another direction.
Great shots Simon!
Thanks Ray! I just got lucky with the light 😊
P.S. I just bought a lettuce and it was $5.50 perhaps I should move to Spain.
Yes, in Spain not only are cabbages a lot less than $5.50, but so is some rather good vino tinto! 🍷
Beautiful tones light and architecture. Thanks for taking us along.😮🎉
banger pics bro
Cheers Paul!
