Just like I said before, Lindsay said that Babers of blackwood are still in business and going strong. It is just weird that there is so little info about them. 🤔
As a Antique and Vintage furniture Restoration guy I wouldn't paint a piece in that condition But I have to say that looks absolutely fantastic Restoration well done Bill Qld Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you. I always struggle with decision whether to paint or not to paint. I do have take in consideration that I need to sell as well. Unfortunately not a lot of people have heart to buy piece that are not "updated" in some ways they do not fit in their modern homes.
So glad you kept the top and drawers in their natural state. When you painted the sides and edges on the front black, I thought "OHh No". But it looks like the sides were either not the same wood as the top, or it was not going to look good finished as a natural wood. The end result is beautiful. It is now a top end piece and worth a lot more than it did when it was new. 10 out of 10 rating.
Thank you. My personal favourite is Scottish ogee chest of drawers transformation. I've done it few months back. But this one is great as well. Thank you very much for watching 😁
To be honest when I saw this piece for the first time I was not sure if I'll be painting top or not. It was looking much worse than it actually was. After removing old varnish and discovering that top is in good condition I could not paint it. It was too beautiful. 😁
You do beautiful work! My husband and I are also a working team. Your pieces are so unique! We are new followers to your channel from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
OMG!!!!!! Just found your channel and these are the most stunning pieces of refurbished furniture I have EVER seen! So excited the "bing" watch and get caught up.
Stunning piece. For smell remover, after piece is cleaned and before starting sanding etc. Make a mixture of 50/50 white vinegar and white spirit. Put in a spray bottle and saturate every surface and allow to dry ( in sun if possible) and Air out overnight. If there is still a residual odour, repeat after the piece is at rough sanded stage.
Hi. I know this method of smell removing..I've used it before, sometimes with great success sometimes not so great. I discovered another way. You can buy animal odour remover here and it works magic and it has nice smell. Just like I said in video in this particular case odour disappeared on its own. I was very surprised. Thank you very much for watching and recipe.
So stunning 🤩! May I ask what do you use to get rid of the old stinky smells. I have one like this that Iam in the middle of doing but nothing will touch the smells! I tried airing it, water and vinegar, sanding, diluted bleach! Still not fresh. About to sand again and spray with clear sealer. The US people use spray shellac but can't find that in UK! Thanks in advance x
You can use varnish to seal the whole unit but you would have to varnish it in and out extremely well. I use this animal odour remover from rug doctor. You can buy it at supermarkets exit door, usually. It might help. Unfortunately sometimes process of removing smells could be very long. Fingers crossed. 😜
Thank you very much for this information. I tried to find something about them in Google but all I got was "did you mean BARBERS of blackwood" NO I'm not looking for a barber. I know what I'm trying to find. 😜 Sometimes Google is so annoying 🙁

Looks nice, I have found oils and waxes have a tendency to attract dust. Looks nice when done but dulls with time. To each their own. Why do people cover beautiful wood with paint?
Most of the pieces are covered with nice veneer at the top and front only. Sides are usually made from not so nice kind of wood but stained to look nice. Another thing is damage and neglect. Old pieces usually have damage that we are unable to repair so we paint. 😜 Thank you very much for watching and comment.
Работа проделана титаническая, но изначально буфет был крепким. Его очень омолодили всё ваши процедуры. Но на мой вкус он стал ещё более помпезным, чем был вначале. Такой буфет будет сложно вписать в обстановку с более простой и современной мебелью.
I tracked down a Baber's of Blackwood, a furniture business in Lisvarne, Wales, but no information on it. That wood grain is gorgeous!
Just like I said before, Lindsay said that Babers of blackwood are still in business and going strong. It is just weird that there is so little info about them. 🤔
At beginning, I was so scared you'd paint over the unique wood. Happy you saved such beautiful wood!! Lovely job.
Thank you very much for watching and lovely words. 😊
Watch Trena, on John's furniture Repair, she's a very high end restorer & repair expert. The BEST!!! I learn alot from her

Babers of Blackwood is a small Welsh furniture company that hales from Gwent. It started up in 1953 and is still going to date.
Thank you very much for this information. I tried to find something about them in Google but all I got was "did you mean BARBERS of blackwood" NO I'm not looking for a barber. I know what I'm trying to find. 😜 Sometimes Google is so annoying 🙁
@@ViChalkyFurniture yep, the internet is annoying at times. xx
I hope you put a lacquer sealer on before you painted
No, I did not.
Do you have any idea of it's age?
As far as I know this particular factory started in 1953. So any time after that I think. I tried to find more info about the maker but I had no results. Few comments ago @lyndseybeaumont7301 gave me more info about this maker.
Would this piece be a buffet, a dressing table or a chest of drawers? The style of late 19th century eclecticism is very evident in this piece.
It is small so I have no idea what was it's "job" but I think it would fit any job. 😉

I guess it depends. I'm sure it will find its forever home sooner or later. Thank you very much for watching.
😊
Nice but would have been better without the paint.
Maybe, maybe not. Thank you for watching. ☺️
Omgosh please don't paint it!!
I did paint. Unfortunately 😉 thank you for watching 👍👍👍
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you very much 😊
