  • At the "Grand Beauty" salon in Leipzig, people with a refugee or migrant background work as hairdressers, make-up artists and manicurists on a donation basis, with the goal to uproot prejudices.
Mara Hesse is a freelance make-up artist and anti-racist activist. As a Muslim woman born in Germany, she has experienced discrimination herself time and again. That is why she works as a make-up artist in the "Grand Beauty" salon in Leipzig. Performance artist Frauke Frech founded the salon with the idea to use the body-related services to create encounters and conversations that would otherwise not take place, and to break down prejudices. After all, xenophobia is a problem in Leipzig-Grünau, where the salon is located.

Firstly, Mara (may have misspelled her name) is absolutely stunning. I love this concept of blending women together from different cultures and background, providing opportunities for these aspiring beauticians, and opening people’s perceptions and attitudes. Well done. I wish all of these women well. ❤

Spectacular idea! Most women share a common interest in beauty and beauty has different standards in different cultures. Bringing diverse people together in a relaxed salon environment helps people to get to know someone they wouldn't meet otherwise.
There's a high demand for stylist that know how to work well with African hair. That wasn't in the curriculum when I went to beauty school.

I am from Asia and always thought that European people have developed outlook on life but unfortunately that's not so? Why? People still have prejudices 😔 about skin color, religious 😟. That's nonsense

    • @sayonara5g680

Prejudices are a state of mind, a negative phenomenon, in this case people live and earn for their own life based on it. Europe's mistake with the arrival of mass migrations is the creation of communities in which predominantly members of the same nation lives together (this creates ghetto communities, and these people unfortunately do not have the opportunity to integrate into society). The world standard is not in that but in wealth, if you are rich you are welcome everywhere, if you are poor there is no place for you even in your own culture, people, religion.

@@sayonara5g680Well, that's a false premise because mass immigration is unjustified to begin with. Immigration isn't an inalienable right. It's a civil privilege. Many immigrants seem to be quite naive and / or arrogant

Hating or discriminating someone based on their looks is the most ignorance thing one can do. It is good that things like these are discussed and addressed. They affect people daily.
I once went to a barber shop in the Netherlands. While I waited my turn on the bench, one of the barbers looked at my head and smiled. In Arabic, he told his colleague that he is not going to deal with that , referring to my hair. “ it will feel like cutting down a tree, he said. They both had a good laugh. They had no idea that I understood Arabic. They were shocked when I told them in Arabic that I was leaving because they thought my hair was too hard for them.
