Fun fact: the lead vocalist wrote this song after losing his favorite watch. My mind was blown when I first heard this song and read this fact. The lyrics are so deep and poignant. We all interpret art in our own perspective and take what we care from it. This proves that the artists original concepts and intentions are rarely what fans and spectators interpret. I have so many thoughts and memories tied to this song from 2002-2006.
Black is everything Pull me right out of reality, the emptiness that's me Black is everything Put me right out of my misery, do what you want to me Life outside goes on, my world is crashing inside out, I'm gently hacking off the hinges Erase the space, erase the memory - missing time What I don't know will never hurt me - missing time Cannot forget cannot remember - missing time Disinformation is forever - missing time Black is everything I've got the answer right in front of me, it's everything I see Time outside moves on, the world I know is crumbling down, Clinging to a lost sensation Erase the space, erase the memory - missing time What I don't know will never hurt me - missing time Cannot forget cannot remember - missing time Disinformation is forever - missing time
I think it goes This information is forever - missing time! It makes way more sense than disinformation, but the way it sounds is like he says disinformation.
I consider this to be one of the very best KMFDM songs. And yes, I consider MDFMK songs to just be "other" KMFDM songs. WHY it was left off the US version of the CD is beyond me.
LOVE this song so much... It actually inspired me to write an entire script in 2000, and every time I hear it I'm brought right back to that time and imagery in my mind.
no shit! Me too , sort of , I didnt 'write' the script but I got the whole thing laid out in my head , I revisit it from time to time to plish and add to it and tell it to myself as a story :) been kicking it around for twenty years :)
This is one of the best KMFDM songs, in my opinion. The fact that it's so obscure is just bizarre, to me. And yes, I'll call it KMFDM all I want. As far as I'm concerned, MDFMK = KMFDM. I'm not bickering over subtle differences.
I was never that big of a fan of Heavy metal 2k. Its spirit wasn't as nostalgic feeling as the original Heavy Metal. BUT... the MUSIC was fucking amazing! This is still one of my favorites, along with Psychosexy and Hit Back.
Probably the best KMFDM song (that doesn't feature Raymond Watts) but yet it's one of the most obscure? C'Mon KMFDM and Crew, play this song in a few live shows!
I used to blast this on my way home from washing dishes at my first job in high school in ~2001-2002. It was a 45 minute drive at 11pm at night. I had burned a few mix CDs of KMFDM and threw in some MDFMK as well
Saw MDFMK live in Atlanta. AMAZING DAMN SHOW!! Felt like I was in the middle of the Dark Future...complete with a surprisingly violent pit. My girl was particularly vicious. Lol This was an awesome, but brief, evolution of KMFDM that was just mind blowing. Not one bad song on the album.
Actually, I'm here because I'm a Prey fan and this song was originally supposed to be part of the Prey soundtrack, back in the 1990s when Prey was being developed by 3DRealms.
ah, you must be the one other 3DRealms Prey fan nice to know im not the only one out there, i still wonder how the original concept would’ve been, especially with prey doing the whole portals thing years before other games
There's nothing bad in making a new version of an old song. If the new version is bad, the old one still exists, so you lost nothing. If the new version is good, instead of having one good song you have two. Win-win.
@dasoffendor You might be right...I think one of the weaknesses is that she's an official member of the band, so she's included in most of the songs they make. She's on a handful of good ones like "Looking for Strange" and "Never Say Never".
I had this discussion before with some other people. One guy said that the first album (Opium) is the only one that is close to Industrial. Some other guy said that "WDYKD?" was a groundbreaking record for the Industrial genre and for future Industrial. What I think is, that KMFDM changed the definition of the Industrial Genre. It's like the difference to 1st wave ska and 3rd wave ska. It's both ska, but it has a different sound to it. I think KMFDM is more like a more modern form of Industrial.
Whoa, hahahaha, great comment, I would actually laugh if I were a 74 year old man. Holy moley, that was actually funny. Shit wasn't about politics but you brought it up anyways, with relevant and hilarious effect! Here's some attention, ho! Lazy bitch.

The problem with not labeling things is, that after a while, people don't know what music it is. And then they just label it something they think it is. Just look at Green Day. Everybody nowadays thinks that they make punk, but they are the exact opposite of punk. I also like labels, because if I want to listen to simular artists. I just look for the genres. I'm not a person that likes every song just because it has synths in it or rap ,or guitars.
I wish someone would dubstep mix this & "mortal kombat theme" (youtube it) someone. It doesn't need to be dubstep but some sort of badass similar is fine with me! Damn, though, I do love this song as is.

It ages like a dread certainty.
I remember watching Heavy Metal 2000 for the 1st time and not expecting a KMFDM song. I was so happy lmao

Easily the greatest song kmfdm/mdfmk have ever made. It's like a cyberpunk anthem.
Anyone else with Dissociative Identity Disorder finding this song to just be extremely validating and cathartic to listen to?

Not only that, they did a official soundtrack for the game that was never releaed, so they should release it sometime

I really love the riff on the chorus. It never fails to get my spirits up 🤘🏻

I discovered it in 2006, when Prey came out, after reading an interview where Sascha Konietzko said this song was originally meant for Prey.
Same here. I can't believe I was listening to this as a kid all the time and finally started listening to KMFDM in my mid twenties.
I found the song from playing the unreleased PREY: A TALON BRAVE game made by 3D Realms
