Jeez this is the most brutalized party I have ever seen, before this they have had non stop near death action. Quill has been killed, had his jaw blown off, eye cut out, ribs broken, sentry has died, luscius has lost his family and broke his leg, Aila comes from a destroyed planet and nova almost entirely lost her arm. I thought this was going to finally be some rest for the party then a side quest nearly wiped them. Jeez poor bastards.
It's not about favouritism as much as the item obviously being intended for Aila. Due to the nature of bounced accuracy, the difference between 18 and 19 is much bigger than the difference between 12 and 13. Dogshit plus 1 is still Lucius getting hit by almost everything. That 1 extra AC is basically the equivalent of Aila getting hit I think 1/6 (16 and 2/3%) less by those Gnolls. For Lucius, they're going to hit him like 1/13 (~7.7%) less. It's a WAY bigger difference for Aila than Lucius, which is obvious to anyone who worries about optimising their play at all. Against big monsters, it;s even bigger because something with a +11 to hit which isn't super uncommon at higher CRs will ALWAYS hit Lucius regardless of whether he's at 12 or 13 AC, or roll a nat 1 in which case the total never matters and it always misses. So against stronger monsters, the difference is infinitely more for Aila vs Lucius. Kim isn't good enough at maths to realise that, and I think that while Trott realises it he also wants it because Lucius would want it.
Yeah I agree, especially the more prominent DnD episodes. Things similar to how you handled Aegis V, Perhaps any Sentry Arc related episodes, anything that you could provide insight on would be 👌.
Super fun! This was quite the roller coaster, with poor Lucius almost dying way too much for comfort. They finally got money though! That's nice, right?
Great Episode as always! I already felt bad for the Group and Mark when I heard the Idea, I know the struggle of players „collecting“ encounters. I hope you all do great during the Quarantine and stay healthy!
@Dirge Blackstar Counterspell is formatted really weirdly, both in the official rules and in D&D beyond because it doesn't mention the LoS requirement in the description like most spells, it has it as a second clause for the casting time, which is easy to miss since its the only spell I can think of that's like that.
Woo, though in that one clutch scene to not give too much spoiler away. Math is hard apparently. Lol. Though, the total damaged rolled due to the error could have been the true total since going for +10 vs +8, means there was a chance for it to be the total given. Small chance, but still possible. This was a good episode, damn Mark, can't wait for the next one even if I have to be a VOD goblin.
Yes, but it would really have been a +9, so just a difference of 1 So there is a 75% Chance that everything played out as they now decided and a 25% Chance of beeing eaten by a Hadar-corrupted... thing...
@@MasterEnsis Yep yep, didn't want to put in the percentages in case anyone was looking at comments first. but who knows in an alternate timeline that could have legit happened. Though with how I run the spell, I run it RAW vs RAI. where you only roll the die once then multiply by the number of the projectiles, means it could be really weak or actually decently strong. But with the blessings of online play it is actually decently quick to do dice rolling that way with the spell but might still be faster to just roll it once.
slight spoilers 41:10 Counterspell specifies it can be taken as a reaction "when you SEE a creature within 60ft of you casting a spell" (pg. 228 of the PHB) So the Gnoll mage wouldn't be able to cast the spell due to being blinded I'm not sure if this is because I have an older version of the PHB or if Mark didn't check the Casting Time section of the spell, which is an understandable mistake.
Well yes and no. Tactically a split party is weaker, and most encounters are balanced for a full party. But frankly... that's boring. Any plan that isn't just rush in and kill often involves some party division due to differing skillsets within party members (in this instance Sentry can't stealth). Also interesting scenarios require either party splitting or some sort of loss, for example a situation where two things are happening in two different areas that both require attention. It is a risk splitting the party, but it can also be a risk not splitting the party. I've seen numerous instances where splitting the party has been beneficial, and numerous instances where it has not. There is no hard and fast rule.
@@asherandai1000 yea but in this instance Mark even said that they took 2 encounters at the same time. And was verry close to a fatal error. We don't want the team to die. Poor luscious was so close to being eatten, which Mark said would have been very bad.

My first time on Roll20, I spent a long time the day before we started to make a lot of macros for dice rolls. Versatile weapon on one or two hands, two different throwing weapons, and all needed both attack- and damage rolls, all in two sets so I could add rage damage. Then I found out that you could just click on the character sheet, and it did it for you, even global modifiers for rage. It also automatically updates the AC if a shield is donned or doffed. It made me sad, but in a happy way.
The concept of portent is that Quill has a vision and can change the future by telling people about it, e.g. yelling "duck!" to turn a bad save into a good one. So my question is, how did that work on a death save? "Lucius, quick, stop bleeding out!"? Got to wonder.
