I was laughing right along with you. Even though Victor Borge was a very accomplished classical pianist, he is best known for his comedy routines, such as this one. I don't know which performance this video was, but Borge died in 2000 at 91, and he is obiously much younger than that here. This is a routine that he and Marilyn Mulvey performed many times over the years.
I really enjoyed this video. I laughed a lot! Thanks for the request Richard, and thank you for the great reaction, Kent. We need more humor like this in these crazy days!

No matter how down I am, Victor Borge always lifts me back up.

I loved the little musical distractions on the side...when he'd throw in a "post call" or the bouncy little "On The Trail" tune from Ferde Grofe's "Grand Canyon Suite."

I do believe Mr. Borge was the only person I ever saw who heckled an opera singer he was performing with. Loved the seat belt!
Tough to remain down with Mr. Borge onstage. Good reactions!

Marylyn Mulvey is a World renown opera singer who has performed with just about every notable symphony orchestra. She had a contract and toured with Mr. Borge. Great Comedy is well-plotted,well-timed, and done in a serious vein. **meaning this was not “off the cuff” but well rehearsed. They are absolutely hilarious! He did interact with the audience and came up some impromptu reactions to sneezes, laughs, etc with zingers! These two are masters in their field and together in Comedy. Marylyn Mulvey still sings. I’ve loved this duo since I was young! Marylyn Mulvey has such a beautiful voice❣️

I stand corrected on the rehearsed “together”!

I can’t find it now but there was once a video comparing one of Marylyn’s first performances with Borge, where she just about can’t hold it together, and one from this era, if not this one. Their act was a well-oiled machine by this point. 😂

Victor Borge was in a class of his own! He was enormously popular on radio...and then TV...but what at treat it would have been to see him do a live show! Marilyn Mulvey must have been the most unusual "straight man" in a comedy routine, ever!

I think I enjoyed laughing at your laughing! No we never rehearsed but that aria was used in pretty much every perf .ALTHO it was never the same twice. Yes it was a challenge to "hold my own" and I couldn't really break up as we would lose the rhythm and the pace of the moment and risk losing the audience...... Glad you enjoyed it.......

loved your performance and ability to take it seriously and not at the same time. It must have been fun as a professional too.

Great thing about victor was that it was considered a great honor to sing with him, but you never knew what he was going to do during your performance

Apparently 32 is a dated age now, because I watched this show on VHS growing up.

'Caro Nome' translates as 'Dear Name'. Gilda sings it when she falls in love with the Duke of Mantua, not knowing that he's a cad and philanderer, and will leave her for another as soon as he's finished with her. He's the reason her father, the jester Rigoletto, has kept her sheltered all her life, but his precautions are for naught. If you'd care to see an entire concert of his, here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/3NtMbQGn31c/v-deo.html

It must be very hard to play straight man opposite Victor.
