I like the tag mechanics and the way the game does Assists, but wasn't a fan of all Supers having start-up invincibility in a game where every character had a universal reversal (a mechanic I also don't like) and being able to do burst while blocking

This is the fighting game I spent the most time on and took the time to learn practice. I still play to this day and I love every minute I spend playing this game. I am a Kanji/Hakumen main. People dislike it either cuz of the dlc fallacy or because their mains are simplified. It might have the blazblue name but this is a different game. BBTAG is the game that got me into BBCF, UNI, and the fgc because the simple execution appealed to me and the characters from all 4 of the franchises looked cool. When I started playing it I couldn’t stop, I would just spend like 3 hours in training mode labbing setups and cross combos that were completely impractical, but it was just fun to mess around with. The possibilities with team synergy and setups makes up for the lack of depth in the individual characters imo, and that’s what made the game so fun for me. (Also the soundtrack is goated)

I got into BBTAG when Blitztank dropped, and I enjoy the game. Yeah the execution is simple, but there’s so much you can do with the tag system. Directional assists, active switch, and cross combo are all a ton of fun to use. There’s so many cool things that can be done that just can’t be done in other games. Yes, rounds are unforgiving, but they end so fast that you can jump right into another, although this is much more stressful for tournament players.
But the game is not without it’s flaws. Even though I’ve had so much fun with experimenting with different team comps, I have wondered multiple times: what if it was better? All of these series have characters with crazy unique mechanics that would be awesome in BBTAG, if they were allowed to exist. Also the CSS is dumb.
Ok but do you wanna know what I hate? When people talk trash about this game, then praise DBFZ as the best team game of recent years. DBFZ is a game I can never enjoy, all the characters feel like they do the same things. Similar neutral, similar mixups, and combos just aren’t fun to do or watch.

      @uprising7416 4 роки тому

In terms of balance, DBFZ is one of the best. But I do understand cuz I hate the defensive side since all you can do is block. The moment you are in a combo, you're done if they know what they are doing

Combos aren't fun to do or watch?
Did you forget which game you're defending?
TLDR: BBTAG sauce is much simpler than DBFZ sauce
      You still reading? cool :)
DBFZ has more expansive combos because of it's longer hitstun (Why is BBTAG hitstun based on time and not hits? :/), and added mechanics Smash wall bounces, air dashes, superdashes, dragon rushes moves that hit off the ground being extended. The characters have different ways of using these from setting up high damage loops like base vegeta or the gohan's to setup Rejumps like Gogeta or 21to buying time for slow combo tools to be utilized like 18's support attacks or Zamasu's lightning. I could keep going, but you get the point
DBFZ has sauce, it's not the most high execution sauce relative to some FGs like Street Fighters's tight links (before SFV or course) or Marvel's pure absurdity of a combo game.
but more combo friendly moves in general, you can actually do solo combos without spending an entire bar to covert from specials, cause EX moves aren't as costly.
I get that there's a lot of things you can do with assist and cross combos, but cross combos are still relatively basic stuff using the assist to hit them with some more normals/ specials while you call the best assist for combos, there are some exceptions. or using them for mixup, The whole challenge of executing them is kind of gutted by holding down the P button until you need them. At least in marvel infinite your control over the 2nd character wasn't this limited, and unlike DBFZ where the most you get is a 50/50 that requires proper spacing, assist timing, and proper movement of your point character like using Vegeta's J.2h to float for a bit before going in with an air dash or storing a superjump for Goku Black's teleport. in BBTAG It's just get to the other side for cross up during your cross combo, or to bait DP with switch during cross combo, or time your low or overhead with low or overhead attack for unblockable, I'll admit with some characters the difficulty goes dummy, but I'm talking about the overall roster.
Either way Sauce is relative so if you like BBTAG stuff you can enjoy that, and I'm also not saying BBTAG has no sauce, it's just it's sauce is less universal compared to other options (Akatsuki combos make me the most disappointed)

      @keystone5750 3 роки тому +1

@@ivrydice0954 I can see where you’re coming from, but I still can’t get behind DBFZ combos, and DBFZ in general for a few reasons. I think DBFZ prevents players from expressing themselves and interact with their opponent, not only more than other team games, but more than any other fighting game I’ve played recently.
TL;DR, DBFZ is, in my opinion, the most homogenized game I’ve ever played and that’s why I can’t get behind it.
For starters, combos. A lot of universal combo guides I’ve seen for DBFZ show that you can do universal bnb > assist > bnb > assist > bnb > supers, and in a lot of situations it’ll kill. Granted a lot of characters only need 1 assist or less to kill if they use their own bnb, if they have one. Now, the high damage might be something you like about DBFZ, but I can’t get behind it. At least in BBTAG doing a CC mixup is less damaging than doing a solo mixup, so there’s a reason to not go for it.
And that brings me to my next point, mixups. DBFZ’s mixup philosophy is that everything is slower than mixups in other anime games, but everything also leads to a kill. A lot of people like to say a lot of mix in DBFZ is unreactable, but I feel like people fail to remember that it’s much easier to react to something quickly if your looking for it. Since DBFZ mix is like this, an attacker doesn’t really have a reason to choose between something that’s easy to block but does high damage, or the opposite, because everything will kill. Meanwhile, the defender has to essentially play what feels like a Mario Party minigame to me while they block. Some people might enjoy this, but I can’t get behind it.
And finally, neutral. I frequently felt like every team was playing the same, and eventually I found out why. Beam and anti air assists are so dominant, and everyone uses them. It doesn’t feel like the players are playing around their opponent’s tools, because both players often want to do the same thing. Also, this is made a lot less fun because DBFZ assists, in my opinion, don’t feel good to use.
Even if BBTAG is not amazing, I still enjoy it because I get to do different things with every character. I love labbing out gross mixups. I love finding silly things different teams can do. I can’t really get that out of DBFZ, no matter hard I try. Granted, this is all just problems I had with DBFZ, and I know a lot of people found stuff to enjoy with it. I don’t agree with them, but if they’re having fun, then more power to them.

I think simplifying all special move inputs to 236X and 214X goes a long way towards making characters feel like functions, which is a death sentence for a game that's main appeal is having a roster that spans so many different universes. Obviously it's silly to boil every character down to their inputs, but in BBCF nearly every character feels unique to my hands whereas BBTAG I feel like I'm equipping myself with a moveset rather than playing a character.

For me, as someone who has been playing fighting games for a long time and considers BBCF the best, BBTAG is interesting and very fun. It's not a mainline Blazblue game and that's absolutely fine. It is its own thing. I love how it brought all these different franchises together (Blazblue and Persona crossing over? Two of my favorite franchises? Feels like this was made for me specifically) and made them all work within one system. Sure, the characters have been toned down from their home games but I feel they still mostly retained what made them unique. The game is crazy enough even with simplified versions of characters.
Speaking of crazyness I love the general system mechanics of the game. The directional assists allow for a lot of freedom and experimentations with teams. Couple that with Active Switch (genius mechanic btw) and Cross Combo and the possibilities are blown wide open. This game actually feels like you are constantly playing two characters!
The huge roster, the system mechanics, the crossover aspect with all the fun interactions and the fun online lobbies all contribute to make this my favorite Tag fighting game and one of my favorite overall fighters. I'm happy this game didn't disappoint after it had a very cool reveal at Evo.

While there is some flanderization as to be expected, seeing characters bounce off each other was fun. Even more so when more series started getting added in like "Akatsuki Blitzkampf" and "Arcana Heart", which are criminally underrated either due to being relatively unknown (former) or unfortunately demonized (latter). Though I personally wasn't exactly enthused when "Senran Kagura" got included for a number of reasons but even that had some pleasant surprises I didn't expect.
Sadly, I'm very much in the minority. Most of the FGC hate this game with a passion. While some reasons are justified, like the DLC practices and lack of modes, others reasons I find to be indicative of issues with the FGC as a whole. Even its own playerbase long since has started hating the game at some point, probably due to how stressful it is in a competitive setting. Not helping either is how lobby RP'ers invaded and took over, which is just ridiculous.
Despite it having the "Blazblue" name in its title, it is actually it's own thing. Heck, that goes for all of the series included under it. Despite many similarities, it's also not "Persona 4 Arena" or "Under Night" and so on. Characters will be different, mechanics will perform differently, the feeling of everything will not be the same, etc. Seems like people either fail to understand that or just refuse to. Makes me wonder how different things would have been if it was just called "Cross Tag Battle", much less the other issues like being rushed not happening.
In the end, ArcSystemWorks themselves more or less abandoned the game without much fanfare and it just feels like an unloved step child that gets the bare minimum of attention. The English ASW Twitter definitely loves using the series for dumb memes and that's pretty much it.
I've long since started coming to terms that the only time this series will ever get notably mentioned these days will be when something bad happens. Like this video more or less for example. It is what it is now.

No crossup protection, and the fact that moves don't lose properties on various attacks, including command grabs, overheads, lows, armor, and invulnerability, after active switch makes for ridiculously hard situations to defend against. Fun on a casual side due to it's simplified nature, but the ones who've hit the lab and practiced the cheap stuff have murdered the experience for sure.

I want to expand on “simplified mechanics” as I found this game great for new players not because of auto combos or just because of motion inputs just being quarter circle.
I was doing Nine’s tactics mode combos and I realized how good a starting point this was: Combo #3 starts with a command move (back A), has 2 jump cancels and ends in a special. Combo #4 ends in an Okizeme set up.
So a combo that accustoms a new player to jump canceling with only one attack button pressed, followed by a combo that can open a new player’s eyes to set play.

Price doesn't justify locking half the roster behind a paywall with half of that half already being in the game's story mode as opponents. So it's OK for ASW to do Disk-Locked Content, but when Crapcom does it, it's a problem (not saying it was right that Capcom did it)? Not to mention literally everyone on there is reused assets. They're not new characters. They're "new to this shitty Tag game" characters.

    • @razrsrealm
      @razrsrealm 4 роки тому +3

@@espurrseyes42 Ok chill for a second and let me clear your wrong info.
      1. These are not disc locked. It was shown that they were indeed unfinished (data miners could play them and they were either incomplete or severely changed by the time of release).
      2. The characters still need to have every single move revised, redesigned and adjusted frame wise alongside adding voicelines and all that jazz. It's not just copy paste like you armchair designers think it is.
Every single half-serious fighting game player buys the full editions / season passes. You cannot lab against characters you don't own. If you don't have all of them you're basically a casual so this really made no difference. Not to mention the base game was $50, actually cheaper than most releases and a good starting price for those that were on the fence.
The biggest fallacy in here is that you casuals are really butthurt about "locking half the roster" but then contradict yourselves when you mention how these characters are easier to make compared to brand new ones from scratch. So then, did you want the DLC "season pass" to be 6 fucking characters like most other games, despite the assets being more easily available? Or is DLC supposed to be variable in price depending on whether they are new (like rwby chars) or not? Maybe DLC is only acceptable if they're made from scratch? Or since these aren't new, every single character should be released for free post-launch? Just let me know what are fine and fair DLC practices and what are not according to you in order to better address your whining. It's impossible to satisfy all the crybabies.

    • @espurrseyes42

1: Being unfinished doesn't make the Disk-Locked Characters any better. All that means is you're paying ASW to finish what should've been done before the deadline.
2: Doesn't change the fact that all the art for the character's moves already exists as does their frame data and other properties, which need to be *adjusted* rather than made from scratch like the RWBY and Miscellaneous characters that aren't Akatsuki.
It also has far less content than an average release. We still don't have an Arcade Mode (after SFV got roasted for not having one and eventually put it into Arcade Edition), and there's nothing to do beyond the shit Story Modes, offline and online versus, and Training/Tutorial Mode. You also can't use the "filthy casual" argument when this game's combat was dumbed down FOR casuals.
What I wanted was for all the characters that were in the game to ACTUALLY be in the game, with the DLC doing what DLC is supposed to do (enhancing an already solid game/roster instead of finishing work that should've been done from the beginning). This includes Blake and Yang, as RWBY, the series and team, was a big selling point for the game, so it's BS for ASW to try and sell them back. And no, making them free downloads, one of which wasn't even in the story beyond cutscenes and didn't even drop until a later batch of the 1st Wave of DLC, doesn't make it any better. Price was never an issue, though if you want to make it one, $70 ($50 for the base game and $20 for the DLC characters) is NOT retail price. Everyone up to Pack 3 and Yang should've been in the base game (not free updates that still cause them to be excluded from the Story Mode and shoved in with half-finished movesets), with the remaining Season 1 characters being $10 for a total cost of $60, which is ACTUAL full price.

A lot of people treat bbtag like its played with one single button like divekick. its ridiculous. those same people are ready to suck DBFZ off until it lands. They are basically the same. The idea for the combat was interesting, basically "people do the same BnBs so let's just build those into the characters" and it actually had a decent amount of depth. A lot of the characters felt lacking with their simplified movesets. The idea of having UNI characters on the BB engine sounded awesome, but the implementation simplified all the chars and it really threw off the game feel.

My take is that this game was always supposed to be the arcsys take on marvel vs capcom. An inherently budget game full of reused assets with enough flash to draw people in. The main reason the game exists is so the devs can experiment with new, weird mechanics that they have never done before. They can get away with this because the game isn't tied to a single series. When support for the game eventually stops, it will fade into obscurity, but future games may use the mechanics that worked here. There may even be a spiritual successor with original characters and a higher budget that will take what worked and drop what didn't.

I’ve been playing bbtag for almost a year and I really like the game
However I think the main reason why people hate it is because of its simplicity which I don’t think its a fair point
The real problem with bbtag is the main balance, 2.0 characters (Yumi, Adachi, Hilda) are very good and break the balance because they can get up to 8k meterless and without assist while Neo barely reaches 6k with meter
The game is fun and i love how simple and chill it is and it’s a crossover with my favorite franchises (BB,UNI and Senran Kagura)
If we had a better roster for the other franchises like one or two more characters and some balance patch BBTAG could be a much enjoyable game

I'm a big BB shill and I'm deep in the lore on top of that, but I never had any fun with the gameplay. Tag games were never all that appealing to me and having BB characters didn't help make it fun. The nail in the coffin is that I wasn't even all that excited for it to begin with because RWBY was never appealing to me, so having it be in the collaboration just felt like Mori forcing his personal interest. Would probably have been nicer to it if it outright had nothing instead of the RWBY characters.

This game was perfect for me as someone just starting to get into fighting games as it really gave me an appreciation for labing out characters and finding my own combos. Since I was so new, a small part of me had the mentality of "Fighting games are sick, but man it's going to suck having to look up and memorize combos". With this game being simpler from an execution stand point and being so free form between the assist and cross-combo, I spent a ton of time in training mode just coming up with my own combos and seeing what works because I could reliably pull off every normal and special move. I got such a good feel and appreciation for 2D fighters through BBTag, especially after years of only playing platform fighters. Then I played Guilty Gear and now GG is one of my all time favorite games even as a beginner who still gets consistently bopped online. Even though I don't play it nearly as much anymore, BBTag gave me such a good understanding about the freedom you have in 2D fighters that I honestly don't think I would have liked other fighting games if I hadn't started out with BBTag. The game is sick and I think I'm going to go back and play some more now!

I honestly like crosstag. The Cross combo mechanic leads to very interesting team comps and neutral situations. I honestly could care less about the game being a bit more demanding on inputs like Blazblue,as that would mean I would have to actually dedicate a Blazblue amount of time or unist amount of time ,etc. to learn 2 characters, and that could get very annoying especially if 2 characters don’t work together at all. Plus there are 40 different characters in this game, with how important team comps can be I can’t imagine actually learning 4 or 6 different chars with Blazblue difficulty, hell I can barely play Ragna sometimes lol. Though I have to say the problems for this game at least for me is the unblockable situations some teams can place you in and single player stuff and that’s about it,great game otherwise.

I absolutely love BBTag but it kind of ruined itself by having so few updates and having the characters be "too simple". BBTag puts its characters into this mold rather then persona characters playing like how they play in their respective games (An example would be about half the amount of moves and removed mechanics like status effects). The announcement to release just for characters alone took between every evo to every evo japan, by the time Heart was added to the game it took about 6 months and felt feel like US players didn't keep playing during that time because nothing was changed or added.
I feel like this game could see light again and be very good if given something similar to a grove system in CVS games to make each series play like their own series with alot more moves per character then what they have now. Would also need to see at least some support post launch that wouldn't take so long to release even if it was balance changes with an extra stage.

    It started hype...
then we found out about Mori's attempt to sell Blake and Yang as DLC, which they made free after the backlash...
only to lock another 20ish characters behind a paywall, the first batch of which was TEMPORARILY free and already in the base game game as Story opponents (along with some later batch characters like Hakumen, Carmine, and Jubei).
They also dumbed the hell out of this game, turning it into a 2-button fighter when it could've easily used the same ABCD control scheme as BB, P4A, and UNIST, adding in "one button" DPs (that eventually had to be patched at one point to not be invincible if your assist was out), and neutering character movesets like Azrael and Hazama. Basically, if you were a BB character, you were usually far less fun to play since a good chunk of your tools were missing (Hazama is missing all but like 3 Chains and only has his D follow-up, and his two Stance moves were heavily reworked on top of taking away his Stance Dashes, Stance Cancel, and his Stomp Super).
And speaking of characters, there were some BAD picks for this roster beyond the obvious Blazblue nepotism. For starters, why the heck wasn't Seth, the Ken to Hyde's Ryu, in the base game or at least in one of the "Disk-Locked Content" batches? I don't care if he'd be potentially busted. You don't not put your main character's rival or main partner in the base game, and you ESPECIALLY don't add in a trashy joke character with little story relevance (MIKA) before that rival. You also don't not put Teddie, a founding member of the Investigation Team who got his Persona BEFORE Naoto, in the base game. And speaking of Persona characters that weren't in the base game, why weren't there more villains? Why weren't Adachi, Hilda, [insert BB villain that isn't Hazama-affiliated or Relius], and so on not in the base game? Whatever nonsense they could've pulled would've easily been more entertaining that some fake-ass Power Stone thing with an annoying obsession with Tag and Battle whom Rachel apparently activated by accident or something.
Also, for one of the two games that ASW was dunking on Capcom with, I find it funny that BBTAG didn't have an Arcade Mode and STILL doesn't unlike SFV, the game that was roasted for not having an Arcade Mode. There's not really anything to do in the game beyond the shit Story Modes, offline versus, online, and training mode (as in the Lab and Tutorials). Even after all the updates, BBTAG hasn't improved content-wise while SFV got a whole resurrection with Arcade Edition and additional content changes with Champion Edition.
Overall, this game is a disappointment. If nothing else, this should've used the ABCD format so the characters could play closer to their original selves, not like whatever the heck BBTAG Hazama is. At worst, the UNIST characters would need some adjusting since their form of Meter is very unique and their D button wasn't an actual move, but the BB and P4A characters could've gone relatively untouched, which the RWBY characters playing like BB characters with their Semblances or other special techniques/powers functioning like Drives.
Also, FUCK Astrals being locked behind the Tag Gauge, only being usable in this game's bootleg Overdrive/Awakening/Veil Off, and functioning like Instant Kills rather than ACTUAL Astrals. It's both extra tedious and LESS rewarding than doing a REAL Astral Finish in a REAL Blazblue game.

It's my favorite fighting game to date. I like BBTag because it is not hard execution-wise for the most part and relatively easy to understand due to movelists sharing so many universal features, but still has a lot of complex things that you can learn to improve, which makes it both fun to pick up and fun to learn in-depth. All the polish and detail in character interactions and such is great too. It is an overall pretty well done spinoff that does a good job at utalizing the cross-over aspect. The superb english dub is part of that. The 2.0 DLC story mode was okay too, even if only a gag-reel type story. While many of the character sprites appear outdated by now, the game looks pretty good overall.
As to why some people don't like it, I think there are six valid negative aspects to BBtag: the way DLC and branding were handled on release, the PC port, the balancing issues, the gameplay emphasis on broken and oppressive offense, the low amount of singleplayer content and the lack of rollback netcode.

Easily one of my favorite fighters of this generation! Same thing for cross tag. It may not be the most complex fighter out there, but it’s still tons of fun. And it’s devoted community continues to play it in the Big 8 and Tag-in!
I met tons of ppl from playing lobbies on the PS4. I love how this is a tag team fighter that doesn’t take a century to finish a match(*ahem* DBFZ*ahem*).
And the synergy you get from these characters is absolute insanity. It may not be for everyone but it doesn’t need to be that way. It’s a spin-off after all :p

the only reason i gave bbtag a try was because my main from p4a was coming to the game and to my horror arcsys massacred my boy (like the devs really hated him) , for the few kanji mains i knew, that was the last straw but i stuck by him as well as posted anything/everything kanji related on twitter to inspire players to play him.
i got to admit though... i really came extremely close to quitting but after licking the drips of buffs oozing from the nectar we called patch, i decided to stay and found myself loving the game when i stop taking it seriously and just have fun.
lastly I'll like to say, most of my anger and frustration came from players and not the game.. the majority of the players i came across are using wifi (i find this so alarming) like how could see intermittent freezes throughout matches and dont think you should do something about it? also alot of them hate/fear losing but instead of asking questions to improve themselves they kick rage quit or stick to playing ppl they know/think they can beat by judging players by their player card...
so many players in general are so uneducated when it comes to gaming online and very quick to blame others for the problem rather than themselves... for gods sake Punk enter a netplay tournament while streaming and get mad when he got eliminated *face in palm*

As someone who loves almost every single fighting game franchise, I can definitely say that I really enjoy BBTAG. It's great for me as both a Persona and Under Night fan and the other franchises represented within the game are great bonuses for me. Gameplay-wise, sure it's simple when compared to most other fighters, but it still has its own level of identity and creativity that make it stand out from whatever else is out there. Overall, a pretty solid game with excellent voicework, an incredibly diverse cast and a brilliant soundtrack.

I've been a faithful weiss yukiko main since beta days of bbtag. I have a blast with game with my mains and I'm still working hard to play this game competitively before the game dies out.
BBTAG is brainless fun in terms of gameplay, but factor in DLC cashwall of pre-made characters of other FGs, this game started on bad terms.
While the game is fun to watch, it gets redundant quickly without variety and I don't care what anyone says, netcode has its credible flaws and BBTAG isn't an exception whatsoever.
If the game dies, I won't be surprised. But I love the characters I main, so if the game still beats by the time COVID is fully through, I'll happily continue to my journey in it.

Before I played BBTAG, the only game I had played in the mix was UNIST but I was a huge fan of Persona 4 Golden.
I didn't really get the hate for this game until I went and played BBCF and realized what everyone was talking about when they said "dumbed down".
With that being said, I think the fact that this game is just the arcsys fighter equivalent of smash (without GG for some reason) is awesome and I feel it stands on its own so long as you don't compare the characters to their actual games. I feel the depth for this game isn't the characters (which is why everyone is probably upset) but rather how you use the games mechanics with your team and because of that, people just didn't care since they wanted to play their characters game inside BBTAG.

Even knowing the fact that Mori intended this game to not play like mainline BB (obviously, since it's a spinoff), BBCF players/purists still set themselves up for disappointment and keep on hating the game for two years now lol. It's just so stupid. You acknowledge that the game does not play like BBCF, it's a tag game, the simplified controls and mechanics were intended to accommodate the tag system where much of the game's depth lies, yet you still go into it with the mindset that it's supposed to play like BBCF and leave yourself disappointed that it's not. I mean c'mon now lmao. BBCF players who hate this game for not being a real "BB" basically are masochists lol.

I’ve stuck with my main team of Chie and Ruby since day 1, and I played ranked up until the lobbies died, and have been playing with friends since. Entering the game at EVO 2018 is the most fun I’ve had in a major bracket, because a lot of people didn’t know what they were doing, and I would get away with a lot of stupid stuff. Like randomly doing Ruby’s super in neutral, and if they blocked it, they would whiff a button because they didn’t know how to punish it, and I would just do the super again and punish their whiffed button.

I got the game recently to play with a friend. I’ve just started actually playing fighting games, and I honestly really enjoy it. It’s simple, but it lets me learn the important simple things I probably would ignore if I jumped into something harder. For example, Overhead and low mixups are something I didn’t understand until BBTag. I also like the character diversity. The characters can all be played similarly, or you can use their unique tools to find your team and playstyle. I would say it’s a good fighting game to start with, especially with a group of friends that won’t immediately kill you with a single combo.

Been getting back into this game recently. It's nice to see theres still a scene for this game. Looking back on it all i'm kinda surprised how like "fair" jiyuna is to bbtag compared to most people who play blazblue. While I definitely get the frustration of not getting a new BB now that arcsys has more eyeballs on em I think shitting on tag for that reason is a bit misguided.
I'm that small percentage that actually like rwby characters. Unironically I love the way they made Ruby play in this. One of my favorite characters in a fighting game. Monty would be proud.

I'm 8 months late, but the only thing I REALLY liked about BBTag is the tag and assist system where you can Bring 'em out at the same time for devastating combos and even tag out a character as a burst mechanic. Also, the directional assist system is just great imo and it could be implemented in other games as well.

This game checks all the boxes I have for tag fighters, and is one of the most fun games to lab that I've ever played. I understand a lot of the hate though, especially if you came in for a specific character or series, only to see them get stripped down or diluted to fit the overall game structure. But the more I play it, the more I like it, and understand to a degree why they did what they did.

Honestly didn't like it when I first played it at release. Tried again when 2.0 dropped and ended up liking it a lot. I think that one person in the twitter comments hit the nail on the head, this game might be the best example of blending accessibility and depth. This game doesn't force you to take more than 15-20 minutes to learn a single character but it will take you a very very long time to learn a team. That's great! One of the biggest issues with team games is that people don't want to learn multiple characters, and this game did a solid job of cutting through the chaff to almost immediately let you focus on your team. The creativity allowed with the assist system and with cross-combos will feel endless if your team has decent synergy and creative use of your assists in neutral can make for a very interesting experience.
To me it's kind of a shame this game gets dumped on like it does but I think that a decent amount of that is from 1.0 criticism which yeah, 1.0 was rough lol.

as a tag game BBTAG was better than dbfz for a very long time until say season 3
its fun, you have alot of options no matter what team composition you have, so you can play what you want due to the directional assists system, the cross combo system, active switch tag system,
You have counter hit states (didnt realize how much i missed this until dbfz)
It has bursts, therefore burst baits which are always fun to watch and play in terms of meta and strategies
The cross combo system having infinite hitstun as long as the cross meter is full, is sick combo wise. Almost looks like infinites.
I love the neutral from the cross combo/ active switch tag system as well in terms of setups, seems more controlled that the mvc 1 / mvc infinite soul storm system. Where you hold the button to make the assist character stay still and let go for him to attack, very cool.
Also being able to call an assist and instantly active switch is something that im loving in modern tag games and BBTAG does this the best imo
The pace of the game is brutal and cheap, very much like classic mvc 1 but like with a bit more variety character wise. I think most tag games should be unapologetically cheap and diverse in his cheapness.
And lastly, the game has alot of character and style. Reminds of Capcom vs Snk 2 when it first came out tbh

I'm a fan of simple games, I'm not a fan of pressing the same buttons over and over. Fantasy Strike has a good proof of concept on simplification without resorting to mashing 5A to win. As a casual player, Naruto Storm has more depth than BBTAG. I'd rather be playing BBCF, BBCPE, and BBCSE all over BBTAG.

Lukewarm opinion aside,it's a really nice spin off game.
Honestly it's better to keep it a spin off because it keeps the ending from central fiction.
Obviously having it be simplified/go into a new direction isn't always for everyone.
Shoot,Tekken players talk about how different Tekken 8 is compared to their previous entries.
All and all. Despite me haven't played it in a long while,I say it's good to stand on it's own feet.

My favorite fighting game right now and maybe of all time. The simpler execution made learning the game go way faster compared to other games and it actually made me better and more confident in learning more execution heavy games. I also love all the franchises that are included, the roster is the game's strongest selling point. Team mechanics are also really deep and complex but I understand it's not for everyone.
