상자루 - '푸너리' (feat. 신수현)

한국 창작무용은 한국 전통춤을 기반으로 새롭게 구성한 춤으로 무용가의 생각과 감성을 독창적으로 표현해내는 춤으로 예술성을 더욱 강조합니다.
저는 한국춤의 호흡을 기반으로 창작한 움직임을 통해서 음악의 강한 리듬과 공간에서 느낄 수 있는 다양한 자극을 즉흥적으로 표현하였습니다.
Korean creative dance, or 'muyong,' is a modern interpretation of traditional Korean dance that emphasises artistry and expresses the dancer's thoughts and emotions in an original way.
(from SuHyeon) 'Using the rhythmic 'breathing' of traditional Korean dance as a base, I improvised movements to express the strong rhythm of the music and the various stimuli that were felt in the space.'
스케줄 때문에, 그리고 물론 제주도 날씨 때문에, 촬영할 수 있는 시간이 딱 하루밖에 없었어요. 제가 선택했던 촬영 장소는 못 들어가게 되어서 대신에 여름에 제가 촬영했던 근처 오름으로 가게 되었어요. 그렇지만 여름이 아니고 1월 이었죠…
추웠고, 제주 바람도 불고, 눈까지 좀 내렸어요.
강한 바람과 울퉁불퉁한 땅 때문에 수현님의 춤이 약간씩 변형되었어요. 그래서 계획한대로 음악이 씽크되지는 않았지만 현대무용의 즉흥성이 강조되는 움직임이 많이 나왔기 때문에 더 아름다운 영상을 찍을 수 있었습니다. 편집이 제가 상상했던 것보다 좀 더 힘들었지만 결과물을 보니 만족스럽습니다. (^^)
두 번째 장소는 제주해안이었는데 여전히 춥고 바람도 계속 불었어요. 그렇지만 어두워지고 빛을 잃으면서 우리는 꽤 극적인 하늘을 얻을 수 있어서 좋았어요.
푸나리라는 노래는 수현님이 선택한 노래였고, 춤과 산자루의 구성 모두 전통적인 한국의 춤과 현대적인 느낌을 가지고 있기 때문에 무용과 정말 잘 어울렸어요.
Due to our schedules, and of course the Jeju weather, we had just one day to film this. The location I'd chosen ended up being locked down, as we drove to a nearby oreum (parasitic cone - all over Jeju) where I'd filmed before in the summer. Of course, this was in January...
It was cold, the Jeju wind was blowing, and it even snowed a bit.
The strong winds and uneven ground kept SuHyeon from being able to perfectly repeat the dance between takes, and so cutting everything together became more of a challenge than I had planned!
Our second location, Jeju's rocky coastline, was still cold and windy, but as it got darker and we lost the light we did get a fairly dramatic sky, which was nice.
The song, Punari, was one that SuHyeon had chosen, and it fit really well with the 'muyong,' as both her dance and Sanjaru's composition are modern takes on their traditional Korean counterparts.

Yeah, I had a tiny one hidden in the grass. Not nearly loud enough!
Add to that the wind blowing hard enough to unbalance the gimbal... haha

@@loudandclearmedia just to be clear, it was only the obviuosy gimbal shot that was on the gimbal. All the locked-off shots were on tripods~
