  • Have you tried improving your vision naturally but feel like it's not working? In this video, Nathan Oxenfeld discusses the right way versus the wrong way to perform you holistic vision practices. Some important questions to ask yourself are:
    1. What practices are you doing?
    2. How often are you doing the practices?
    3. How are you performing the practices?
    4. Why are you performing the practices?
    Nathan goes through these questions one by one and explains the importance of establishing your "eye-mind connection", which refers to the marriage of the physical practices with the mental focus and engagement. If you are not staying present during your practices and your mind wanders, you may have an "eye-mind disconnection", which will decrease the power and potential of the physical practices. By focusing on your mental state before, during, and in between your physical vision practices, you can deepen your relaxation and actually get more results.
    Another important question to ask is - how long have you been wearing glasses? If you have worn glasses for 10 years before beginning your holistic vision practice, you need to be patient to achieve a full recovery. It may not necessarily take you 10 years to get your vision back 100% naturally, but try and keep perspective of the bigger picture and your full vision history.

    i did some eye exercices from July to September, i only saw a small improvment, this video tells me what i was doing wrong! When i was doing the eye exercices i was always thinking about something and was always in a hurry like " let's do this eye exercices right now so i can move on to another activities" that was the problem. I will redo eye exercices while trying to get an eye-mind connection everytime. That video was very informative like always, keep up the good work Nathan.

    Thank you for your help. I was devastated recently when told by eye specialist that my cataracts had developed and macular degeneration was evident in my right eye. I immediately looked for natural remedies and recognised that I was hopelessly straining my eyes and not giving them the care that they need.Now literally days later following your tutelage I am not choosing not to use the reading glasses but am seeing without them.... literally. Straining to see and the anxiety caused by not seeing properly was not working. Totally relaxing, breathing and appreciating my eyes and their value to me mindfully s is working.Until you pointed out all that I was doing to myself unconsciously I was on a path to self-destruction!!

    Thank you for your video, it is very helpful. I stopped wearing my glasses two months ago and it was hard time and still is. The first month I was at home and it went great, I had a time, and I was relaxed. And I realy saw improving. But at February school started and it' s a lot of stress for me and I dont have so much time. But I am still trying, and how you said, I am trying too much. I force my eyes to see and I feel its not good. Because while everything is blur I feel sad and depresed. I must to find a way how to stop doing this. But its now like automatism.

    Today I was trying my best to make sure that I was living in the present and using my eyes to acknowledge things rather than just see them and I've noticed that my head has begun to throb. Is this a sign that my mental focus is beginning to become in sync with what I see and that my brain is being rewired or am I doing something wrong?? Also this video has been extremely useful. Thank you!

      Was the sensation you experienced comfortable or uncomfortable? Was it like a headache or were you just noticing more circulation or blood flow? I would think that settling into the present moment more would lead to a sense of relaxation and calm.

      @NathanOxenfeld  7 років тому +1

      Alex Reyes yes, the Bates Method can be a great way to deal with lazy eye naturally. Strabismus surgeries are only cosmetic in nature, they straighten the eyes without addressing the underlying root causes. The Bates Method can both align the eyes and restore vision better.

    Thank you Nathan, « letting the light in » as if you just need to let it happen is a way to promote relaxation. Visualising while palming does make it more effective : rather than active focus it is active mental focus. Paradoxically you cannot pre-see what you’re looking at but you can not see something your eyes are grazing upon because your mind is elsewhere. Maybe blind people would see better with our eyes if they were given to them because of their visualisation power. Since we cannot pre-conceive what we’re about to perceive, maybe a trick would be to visualise a neutral mental object. Hope my own two cents makes any sense.

    Hello, I recently found out about the Bates method and I find it very interesting. I would like to ask a couple of question.
    1. I have astigmatism and i was wondering if the Bates method can help with that.
    2. Regarding the Palming, can I use those eye pads that are used for sleeping instead of keeping my palms on my head? Or is there a reason to use your palms.
    3.Is it bad that I wear my glasses almost all the time? Should i start wearing them mainly in front of the computer and while driving ?
    That is all for now :) I find your videos very helpful and encouraging, keep up the good work.

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  7 років тому

      1. Yes, the Bates Method can help with astigmatism. I personally used it to get rid of myopia and astigmatism. Here's a really good explanation of "functional astigmatism" drboulet.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Forrest-a-new-model-of-functional-astigmatism.pdf
      2. You can use eye masks and blindfolds to supplement your palming, but not to replace your palming. It is important to palm with your hands in order to achieve the optimal benefit. Your hands generate a lot more heat and warmth than an eye mask will. The heat is what relaxes the eye muscles and melts away chronic eye strain.
      3. Only wear your glasses when you need them and take them off when you don't. Use them as tools to help you see when driving etc. but try and start doing things without them that will allow you to stay relaxed and not strain.

    Hello, Nathan. Thanks for your video's. I have a high myopia (-6). A week ago I was visited by some people who demonstrated the Bemer therapy and I wondered if you know this method invented by a Swiss physician. It is supposed to give your immun system a boost by electromagnetic pulses that give your blood more oxygen, etc. It's used to support the cure of different kind of diseases, also for myopia and other eye diseases. The only problem is that it is very expensive (4,000 euro's). Greetings from Aernout Voorthuijsen from The Netherlands.

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  7 років тому

      I've heard of it, and I've even laid on a Bemer therapy mat at a chiropractors office once, but I can't say I have much personal experience with it. I know that people like Dr. Edward Kondrot are doing pretty incredible things with microcurrent stimulation to reverse cataracts and heal macular degeneration, so I'm sure there is some good potential with those types of things.

    Do you think it's possible to decrease a high myopia only doing relaxation exercises for the eyes? I have 10 degrees of myopia, recently started to have a lot of floaters, I'm 30 years old and I'm worried that my myopia keeps increasing. I was watching another video of a specialist who says that only relaxing your eyes won't decrease your myopia, you have also to push your eyes, trying to read without glasses for exemple. I've had a lot of headache reading without glasses, even if it's only for 15 minutos. I'd much more prefer to stick only with the Bates method, but I'm questioning if it's enough in my case. Thanks a lot for your videos, really helpful!

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  7 років тому +2

      mari2710br the Bates Method involves reading without glasses in a relaxed way. The problem with "pushing" your eyes is that you may end up adding more strain to your already strained visual system. Relaxation is the first step of the Bates Method. Once you've learned how to relax your eyes and mind, you can start to do more "active" vision practices like reading fine print up close and eye charts far away without glasses and without straining. You cannot force vision and you cannot force focus. Accommodation (focus) is an automatic involuntary phenomenon. You can only coax vision, encourage it, without putting a lot of effort into it. Even if you have high myopia, you should still follow the same basic procedure that Bates outlined to start experiencing improvements for yourself!

    • @BatesHappysight
      @BatesHappysight 7 років тому +4

      May I say that when you have a high level of myopia, you need to find the distance which is best for your vision, and then very gradually work to increase that distance. You need to maintain relaxation by frequently closing your eyes as you read. Read one word, close your eyes, take a breath and relax, open your eyes and read the word again. If it looks clear, move back a little and repeat. Also, if your best focus is very close to your eyes, try practising with one eye at a time, to prevent convergence strain.

      I'm trying to make more pauses, blink more frequently and massaging my face while reading without glasses but I hold a lot of tension in my eyes and It's been a process to learn to use them in a new way. I've recently found out that I also have vitreous detachment. I don't know if it's reversible but for a few months now I'm doing at least two hours a day the exercises, palming, sunning... Nathan channel is helping a lot. I'm also practicing Self Healing, the method of Meir Schneider who was born blind and by practicing Bates method recovered his vision. I'm starting seeing small improvements.Thank you!

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  7 років тому +4

      It's important to spend some time doing some sort of vision practice every day, whether that is 5 minutes, 15 minutes, or an hour. It doesn't have to be all at once, you can do 5 minutes in the morning, 5 minutes in the afternoon, 5 minutes in the evening. But remember, it's not all about the "exercises", it's about the habits and principles that the exercises are trying to teach your eyes. So that you're not just doing x number of minutes of exercises each day, you're actually learning a totally new way to use your eyes all day long. You're maintaining good vision habits 24/7.

    Nathan I have a very important question I would like to ask and get a reply to. By doing just the sunning, palming, long swing, and nose drawing everyday it is possible to improve vision from -4.50 to something lower like -3, -2, or even 20/20. If not then what more eye relaxation techniques do I need to do, and how much time would I need to spend on it?

    Hello! I have been watching your videos and listening to podcasts - I likem them very much. The clarity of your speech seems by itself be healing to vision. I wanted to ask you, what do you think about Todd Becker's method? I mean the part where he teaches to read almost blurry text for example from a screen and says that this has healed his eyes from myopia? Becker seems to have a lot of fans that have had success. If this is a valid method then I don't understand, why you are not integrating it into your system? Also, I have not heard you mention fasting anywhere. Fasting is according to many alternative health books and also according to my personal experience the most powerful healing method for the eyes.

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  7 років тому +1

      That method of reading blurry text is straight from the Bates Method. That's one of the main things Dr. Bates taught all his patients... except instead of using screens (since they didn't exist 100 years ago) he used Snellen test cards and eye charts. He would have his nearsighted patients look at a blurry eye chart in the distance and teach them techniques to see it clearly. He would have his farsighted patients look at fine print up close and teach them techniques to see it clearly. So I do incorporate that into my teaching as well. I call it Vision Building. There are two chapters in my book devoted to teaching it, and it is what I spend the majority of the time teaching my private vision students one on one and in my online courses and programs. I have also personally fasted in the past, usually just intermittent fasting for a day or two. My next UA-cam video is actually going to be about diet, nutrition, and supplementation for eye health and I may include a little note about fasting as well, thanks for the suggestion!

    Hi Nathan! I have been doing the Bates method for 3 months, I have listened to your videos and read a book about it, but I don't have any improvement. I don't even notice any "clear flashes". I do palming, swinging, yogic eye movements, nose drawing, visualization and centralizing, but sometimes I experience double vision. I'm just tired of trying without improvement. Any idea that could help?

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  7 років тому

      Add in sunning and palming and keep going for several more months. Sometimes it takes a while to start seeing tangible improvements, which is one of the biggest challenges of the Bates Method, the patience and faith required to stay dedicated even if you're not seeing instant results. Stick with it! If you're feeling challenged, consider setting up an online consultation with me and we can discuss further and figure out what you can be doing differently to increase your results. Or if you know of any Bates practitioners locally you can reach out to them as well.

    Can you talk about it in future videos?
    I believe it would be helpful to people who get bad eyesight from very young age!

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  7 років тому +1

      Floaters are usually just dead blood cells, skin cells, proteins, or other types of waste product or debris that get suspended in the vitreous humour, the jelly-like fluid inside your eye. They interfere with the light entering your eyes so they cast a shadow on your retina, which is why we can see them. The key to dealing with floaters is usually the lymph system. Your eyes are nourished by your lymph system, which is the "clean up crew" of your body. We have twice as much lymph fluid in the body than we do blood. The lymph fluid doesn't get circulated like the blood does by the heart though... it gets circulated by movement, breathing, and gravity. Floaters are usually a sign of lymph stagnation. Notice that when you move your eyes or head, the floaters move as well. Increasing your movement will increase your lymph flow to your eyes. Doing things like the Long Swing from the Bates Method, or any type of movement practice from Yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, Dance, Exercise, Jogging, Running, Swimming, Trampoline, etc. will increase your lymph flow and encourage the floaters to get flushed out. Your eyes have drainage canals in them where the fluid drains out of as new fluid gets replenished. If there is strain or tension in or around your eyes it could be interfering with that process by constricting your drainage canals and slowing down the replenishment of the fluids. That's where relaxation comes in, like from Palming, Sunning, Mental Visualization, etc. that open up all the channels of the eyes. Drink lots of fresh filtered water too to make sure your eyes are getting hydrated enough. Floaters can also be brought about by diet, so try decreasing or avoiding sugar, dairy, wheat, red meat, alcohol, caffeine, and increasing fresh fruits and vegetables. It could also be a mineral deficiency... one of my previous students totally eliminated her floaters just by taking Silica, which is a homeopathic cell salt you can find at health food stores or online.

    How can i improve my vision 20/20. -1.05

    Hey Nathan, I am 46 and I hate being in the sun because of my ethnic background I can easily get pigmentations on my face and so palming is something I don’t like doing. Is it ok if I use an eye massager which has heat? It’s also easier on the poor arms that get tired. Thanks.

      Yes you can always use tools to help supplement your palming practice... but I'm not sure if I'm clear on what the sun has to do with your palming practice? Palming can be done indoors without having any sun exposure.

    Ur talk stresses on the fact...that we should remain in the Present...rather than swinging our mind in past or Future..

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  4 роки тому

      That's a great realization! Yes, I agree that perfect vision is really only possible right here, right now, in the present moment. If we get swept up in the past or the future, we may disengage our eyes and we might start to stare, which is a really bad vision habit that leads to blurry eyesight. However, thinking about the past and future is not necessarily a bad thing... just make sure you're not staring while you do it! Better yet, palm your eyes while you reflect on the past or daydream about the future, and it can be an even more relaxing experience.

      I've worked with people that have that level of prescription and even higher. When improving vision from a high prescription you need to give yourself plenty of time to heal. It may take several years, but if you're serious about it and do the Bates Method correctly you can definitely achieve an improvement. A helpful thing to think about when coming from a high prescription is, instead of initially aiming for 20/20 or perfect vision, set a more realistic goal first, like preventing your vision from getting any worse or preventing your prescription from getting any higher. Then set another goal, like being able to drop down to -6 or -5 glasses. Then once you achieve those goals you can start thinking about 20/20. Take your time and make sure you're doing it correctly under the guidance of a professional Bates teacher.
