Funny how you left that flap wheel just sitting there, like a thorn for those who disapproved. Love the smell of Hoppes No.9! It turned out great. Seems to me that things treated with boiled linseed oil tend to darken up. It's also nice that you can always re oil it without much effort. Great project my friend!
looks good Tony. if you plan to use it for home d you should put all the shells in the same way. but if you are running dif ammo put them all at the same end just my thoughts
Tony I know at the beginning of your project you said you wanted it some what a darker color, and you most likely already know this but.... if you keep applying that linseed oil it will get darker as it soaks it up over time...and it sure is not going to hurt it any!.....Job well dome it looks great!
I looked into extension tubes before I cut the barrel. The way the 20ga version works there would have to be major mods to the barrel and mag tube to use one.
Good point about rubbing the boiled linseed oil in by hand. Turned out really great brother despite using a power tool in the process. Heaven forbid : )
WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU USE "BOILED" LINSEED OIL. HAVEN'T YOU HEARD THAT ALL THE EXPERTS NOW USE "DEEP FRIED" LINSEED OIL?? lol It really turned out great, Tony!! Something to be proud of!
Hi Tony, I Just found your Video on your Mossburg and seen you put boiled linseed oil on looks good. A old timer told me to oil 3 times a week for a week then oil once a week for a month then oil once a month for six month. You will find you have a finish that will last a life time. It will look even better. P.S. I like your just go for it attitude.
Really nice job Tony. That gun will always be a special firearm in your collection. Now, the next time some Subscriber asks "What does "Artisan Tony" mean?" Just point them to this Video (series).
That checkering looks stamped to me. I'm pretty sure of that. I bought a checkering kit and re-finished a few of my guns. You can just clean up what's there with the tools or sand the old off and make your own pattern. (practice a bit first). I also got a fancy walnut rough cut blank and started from there for my Stevern sxs. It is the best work I've done so far. I went with tung erl (oil) and no stain under that. I stained my 22 but that was a practice round for me. Nice job on the barrel cutting but that scared the crap out of me. I am too much of a perfectionist to leave it the way you did. I think you have the tools and could probably improve for your next project.
I have this same gun, I wish you could add an extension tube to match the barrel like on Remington shotguns....why Mossberg has not allowed this or made after market parts beats me....it is a nice shotgun, and little to no kick.
They make a version called "tactical" with the extended tube. Costs a bit more. I would like to talk to Mossberg and see if I can buy the tube as an upgrade for mine.
I followed this all the way thru. I remember one of his first statements and the original reason for this project was, "I really don't like this blonde finish, I really like more of a brunette." WELL, IT IS DEFINITELY BLONDE NOW !!!
The camera did not do it justice. It really looks good! :) Thanks!

I love the finish on the furniture!
It looks great, Tony! The boiled linseed oil makes a great finish.
Turned out excellent! Sharp looking shotgun.

Very Very Nice, Tony. It turned out great.

Great Job.
Your voice is soothing like an angle
Had good luck with Tung oil on my sks, looks really good. 4 coats.
Haha, The hard part was trying to video and do it at the same time. kept tilting it toward the camera and the stop kept falling out :)
great job sir!!!!
Thanks! :)
I feel your pain at the end putting the action together! lol it can be tedious!
That sock was really bad :) The t-shirt worked well.
Thank you Tony, I learned a very good lessen here that will save me a big headack. Leave my shock alone.
Please make a video! :) Thanks!
Man that's one beautiful shotgun!
Dang Tony, that's some beautiful wood on that little 500! I've got one just like it! I may give mine a face-lift! Great job bud!
I like them alternating. It depends on with side you are accessing the sling from. This is a personal choice.
That's good to hear, id have fun with that thing!
It will get darker as I put more coats on it. I just have to take it to the range or I am going to go crazy :)
Very nice indeed, although I thought it would be darker. ;-)
I didn't sand the checkering.
Tuesday or Wednesday. Thanks!
Wow very nice man, it looks perfect.
Why do I always make them one :) Thanks!
What heathens don't like Hoppe's number 9? I use that stuff for cologne! oh the lightheadedness!
Goodness!!!!! Beautiful.

you should have oiled the inside of the wood to protect it i cant quite tell if you did, moisture will get in there and be bad
Thanks much! It turned out great!
LOL Thanks!
Haha, trying to keep it form being boring :) Thanks!
haha, thanks! I will put a coat on periodically. I am sure there will be little scratches to cover over every now and then :)
question
How do you sand over the checkering?
good video as always though m8 the fast forward talking wierds me out a little though
does that shotgun have a metal trigger housing or polymer?
and I will put more coats after this weekend when I shoot it for the first time :)
Nice!!! I might do the same to mine
Haha, it is!
haha, thanks!
I don’t like that it has a bi tone look with the chrckering part. Any idea on how to get it to match so that is has more of a monotone?

I think they used to use Tung Oil.
haha, Thanks! :)

A few more coats and it will be good for a while :)
LOL, I bet that smells good :)

I think you should change the title to “How to change a $200 gun into a $20 gun for under $100”
Haha
that is NOT how you apply a BLO finish.the cringing was almost unbearable
Piss off
He is right he used way too much oil per coat
Thanks a bunch!
Thanks!
