    The six legged Olive version had accounted for 90% of my fish this winter. For some reason, the olive version has been an absolute killer. More so than any other colour. I’ve fished it in different fisheries to and they all seem to go for olive over Red, Pink and amber

    • @RhysFishes

      Those are the most common colours 👍

      @@mr.robinson1982 none. A spider of some kind but it doesn’t resemble nothing that loves naturally in the water. It’s just the way it moves that triggers the fish

      @@CBCB78 I always thought that Peter who came up with the pattern tied it up to represent clumps of blood worm in his local lake.

      @@lindsayiflyfish that would make sense. Never seen a green clump of blood work though. 😂 the Olive colour seems to be lethal but once it warms up, the red apps comes in to its own.

      At first sight you wouldn’t believe it’s effectiveness. But give it a try and you’ll soon see why it’s considered a great fly for Stillwater trout 🙂

    Rhys, As an angler from across the pond where we don't differentiate between small and large stillwaters in the same way, what makes this a "small stillwater" pattern for you? Would you only use it on small bank fisheries or would you also use it from the boat?

    • @RhysFishes
      @RhysFishes  Рік тому +1

      It’ll work equally as well on a small Stillwater as a large. Much of the differentiation comes from the limitations imposed in our regular loch style comps. Flies can’t be more than an inch and a half roughly for any of our standard loch style comps. That being so, large Stillwater anglers will always adopt this rule (and therefore not fish anything longer / bigger). And as a result, only small Stillwater anglers will usually fish these longer style patterns and by default they became a small Stillwater norm. I’ve had some great days fishing these on the likes of Rutland and Grafham, where the population of fish rarely see a pattern of this type (but see plenty of blobs, fabs, nymphs etc….).

    Several key points you made to make this fly pop and be so much more effective. Dabbing the super glue onto the body seals the fly far better than multiple thin layers of varnish or resin. As it seals the dressing without soaking right down to the hook. Sealing the tips of the legs with super glue or heat stops the legs from starting to fray and split over many fish and sessions. Until this beauty appeared most UK anglers saw rubber legs as just an American fad. If we need movement just use marabou, hen hackle, or CDC. Ignoring the movement and kick that “the silly legs” gave. The subtle extra trigger
