Thank you Melissa
You're to kind Melissa, we appreciate that!
Wouldn’t miss it 🤩
I 💯that
I so agree, they make me happy… that’s saying something, I suffer from severe depression and anxiety. They are just sweet, genuine people.
I could not imagine cooking in fireplace and not overcooking. Justine does make it look easy
Ron is cracking me up 😂turning his plate up and drinking the juice off his plate!! What a compliment to Justine!!❤️
I love watching this show as I go to sleep. It’s so peaceful, calming, and familiar feeling. It helps me relax and unwind. Love listening to them talk and always learn something new. The next day I come back and watch from where I fell asleep.
I in no way am trying to say this is boring because it is not. I’m just an overwhelmed mama suffering from insomnia and like I said it helps me relax. They are just good people.
Love this channel and Early American and so happy I found you I think last year! Every week I look forward to their videos! ❤❤❤
I used to work at an old west town, when I was in my 20s, where I dressed in 1840s apparel and learned to cook on an open fire and with a wood stove. Some of the best years of my life. Lots of memories were made there. You both remind how much I loved it. Wishing you well always.
Very cool! Glad we could help :)
@@frontierpatriot Not "help", but rather a Gift. You don't know me, but watching you both feels to me like family, like a familiar and long distance relationship with my past and your present.
Also: I made Mish Mish historically appropriate cat toys using 1800s reproduction materials. Look for them in the mail soon.
Sarah,
You gained an invaluable skill!
@@sariahmarier42 can't wait to see them on the channel.
I watched one of the earlier ones. I love how much you guys have warmed up on the chats now and your charming personalities show more :-). keep up the awesome work
Here in Virginia on the 23rd it was like 1 degree and it killed my car battery. I love Mish Mish and her laying on the red crochet blanket.
Hi Justine and Ron! I discovered your channels recently. You are both entertaining and I learn alot!
I didn't read through all your comments so I don't know if anyone else covered this. I grew up in Pennsylvania with lots of cold snowy winters. When i was a child in the 1950s-60s we had sleds with steering. Sitting upright we could use our feet or the rope... or hands if lying on our bellies. There was a narrow wooden board hinged on the frame at the front of the sled. Rope was inserted in holes on each end of the narrow board for upright control with our hands. Move the board to the left or right to turn in that direction. Very simple design. Many are sold on ebay, etc.
Thank you for the time and energy you invest in keeping us entertained... And maybe a bit more educated!
Ron you have a country boy's healthy appetite and that's awesome. I married a country boy from Saint Mary after growing up in the city. I learned real fast to cook meat and taters. Lol. You both warm my heart because you are good genuine people. Love the giggles. ❣️
Kathy we know how to eat here in Ste.Genevieve County lol
Usually if kitty can climb up, he usually can climb back down. So cute. Your food looked good too Justine. Hi Ron.
I think it is so sweet how Ron always makes a point of telling us to watch Justin’s channel where she cooks these delicious recipes. ❤
The world could crumble, you guys have the skills to survive without modern tools.
Thank y’all! ☮️💚🙏🥰🌟🌈🇺🇸🌎♻️🙏
Great job on the apron. We all need to send you material and threads now
Ooo that would be a lovely gift!
I’m so glad mishmish is with you during this horrible cold weather! she is looking beautifully happy!
$10 a plate? Come to northern Virginia and double that amount. I just love you guys
I thought the same here, double that on the West coast.
You can do it Justine! I taught swimming lessons to kids aged 5-12 one summer. I had one little boy who screamed whenever he touched the water, but by the end of the summer he was jumping in the deep end by himself! You need a patient teacher that will listen to you and understand your fears and you can do it!
Opening Xmas presents on Xmas eve? How very German of you :D :D Lovely apron, Justine! Ron sure knows how to get good gift. You guys are so adorable to listen to. My work day is easier when I'm listening (no worry, I work remotely so I can listen while working).
I feel the same way Justine does about jumping in to help my loved one if they are drowning. I could not live with myself if I just watched it happen and didn't try to help.
I remember a few years ago there were teenagers at a beach near me that saw a man bobbing up and down in the ocean and screaming for help. Instead of helping in any way (even calling the police) they recorded it while laughing and mocking him. They had the audacity to upload the video to social media. The teens didn’t get in any trouble, because apparently citizens don’t have to call the police when someone is screaming for help. 😡 Now that some time has passed, I often wonder if any of them regret their decision. I wonder if they picture the man struggling when they try to sleep or if they ever dream of him. I would never be able to forgive myself.
@@findingbeautyinthepain8965 psychopaths don't have remorse or love. I'm sure demons sleep well.
@@theoneandonly1158 I’ve thought about whether or not they were legit psychopaths too, but if I remember correctly from the video, there were about five of them. So it’s probably small odds that they could all be psychologically ill. Maybe they are just plain evil. It’s really sickening to think such people exist.
@@findingbeautyinthepain8965So sad.... I hope they are haunted by that.
So glad to hear the Christmas Blizzard bypassed you! Here in Buffalo/WNY we got clobbered!
And hear in the U.K. they found skates (leather slippers with bone skates at the bottom) dating back to the Bronze Age
I love You guys. You are so sweet and I really enjoy everything you have done. From courtship and dramatic skits to history come to life, I enjoy it all!
The blessing, the cat and the way you treat each other warms my heart! You both are so very precious! Thank you for all the joy you bring others. May the Lord bless you, keep you safe and bring you joy.
Oh yay!! Another Live Chat!! 2 in a week! Soooo darned excited!! See you all in a couple of hours!! 😍💕
Миш Миш похожа на мою Багиру, такая же сладкая девчонка, ❤️
One of the most satisfying things ever: cooking for someone and them absolutely loving it!! The ultimate way to care for someone.
I would certainly trade you guys winters!! I'm in North Dakota - we have already had a few days with our highs being in the -20s 🥶 and so much snow
Hubby Ron and beautiful wife, Justine!! My grandpap's meal blessing: Bless us oh Lord and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord, Amen. God take care of the poor and needy and help the sick and distressed and poor souls in purgatory-Amen!
That is the traditional Catholic pre-food blessing. I personally been saying it for 70 years.
It’s so relaxing to watch your channel. Just what I needed after the bustle of Christmas. Have a wonderful 2023
The food looks and sounds good...but I love your sewing box. I keep old fruitcake tins,I have a bunch of sewing stuff and jars of buttons. Mishmish is a funny curious kitty. So glad you had a good Christmas,we did, too! The weather was warmer today in KY yay!
LOVE that you made your apron on Christmas day with your new sewing machine!
I was so excited to try it!
If you are ever in New England, visit the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) here in Salem, MA. This museum has been operating for over 200 years. Sea captains from the area were bringing china, spices and other objects from Asia when trade opened up. The first millionaires in the country were made in Salem by the ship's owners and the spice trade. The PEM features many of the china, furniture and art that the ships brought back to Salem.
OOOOO I would love to try the bacon pork curry dish That sounds good! But we will see! LOL I trust them with my life! If they say its good then I will have to try it.
please try it, its SO GOOD!!
Bless Rons heart, he cracks me up He loves food period. Just like my husband, he loves to eat lol. You did an awesome job Justine.
Another fantastic chew and chat! Thanks for letting us peek into your lives and see the love and delicious food there. ❤ Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Florida!
I just realized the 12 days of Xmas comes from the Julian calendar. In 1700, the Julian xmas was Jan 5th on our calendar, which would mean 12 full days counting Jan 5th 1701.
Ron is an eating machine
I hated to miss a chew and chat. So much fun! I normally NEVER tell people what to do. I'm breaking my rule for good. Justine my mom is terrified of water but took us to learn to swim. She also took CPR and learned basics just in case. Learn for your future babies. Happy New Year, Ron and Justine! 🎉✨🎉
Old sturbridge village is a great place to visit . hope you have a happy new year !
Love these two young folks! I'd like to see Ron ice skate and as he is the fastest dishwasher west of the Mississippi, I'd like to see his technique
Now I can’t stop picturing Ron falling through the ice of the 6 foot lake, with his head sticking out, yelling, “Help Justine, I’m drowning!” Justine would just shout back, “Ummm Ron, you’re feet touching the bottom and your entire head is above the water.”
He needs a size 12 ice skate. OMG, that's some big feet. Still luv these two. Haha
@@jackieblue787 Thank you for still loving us despite Ron having big feet 😭
Love you both!!! Thank you for reminding people where many come from! I appreciate what you do and please continue being you!
Our pleasure! Thankyou so much!
The highlight of my week. Have Covid pneumonia so I have been in for two and a half weeks. I look forward to these.
Get well soon!
Hope you are better soon.
Get well soon!
Get well soon Rose
Wishing you a quick recovery and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
I watched you make this, and all I could think was I wanted cornbread with it! I loved watching this so much. Im so happy you had a good Christmas. Thank you so much, watching this in 80 degree weather has put me in the mood for a Happy Christmas in 2023. God bless the both of you. I’m definitely going to make this!
Praise God for answered prayer 🙏 that the snow didn't sock y'all in trapping you all!!
Justine you mention in a previous video about paper being a good fire starter, well if you know anyone from the future that has a new thing to dry your clothes in the lint from it is a really good fire starter. Just save it up and start fire.
We called them foot pedal sewing machine. I learned on my grandma's. I am horrible with electric
Enjoy your 🧵 Sewing machine
The seam ripper will come in real handy!!!!
Enjoyed the history! Lovely apron. Well done you! Definitely preparing the curry dish. Thank you! A happy and prosperous new year to you both!
Entertaining and educational and just plain fun. Wishing you two a Happy/Healthy Happy New Year.
Thankyou guys! We hope you guys have a happy, healthy and prosperous year!
Just love your shows! I wrote earlier and told you that I had cancer, I'm now cancer free, Continuing to heal. Watching your shows have helped so much! Thankyou. Both! Deb ☺
Wow that is EXCELLENT news! You are a strong one, Deb. Very proud of you.
I'm pretty excited to hear about the winter sports. Also very interested to see how a bacon pork curry dish from the 1800's comes out. Weird combo of foods of you ask me.
Years ago my husband got me a Kenmore sewing machine for Christmas. I still have it and used it regularly. I used to make Christmas stockings for the US Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. I haven't used it in a few years though. But the challenge with any sewing machine is threading it and keeping the bobbin full of thread. I used to elicit some colorful metaphors when the bobbin was empty and I didn't realize it. 😂
I just happened to stumble upon this channel… don’t know how, but I’m so glad I did! I’m intrigued by these “old timey” recipes!
I love all the history, as well!
I am pleasantly surprised by the wholesomeness on this channel!!! This is quality ☺️
Thankyou so much! Please check out our main channel too, Early American 😊
Sturbridge village is a must. My favorite visits are during the fall harvest. Winter will be less crowded. The blacksmith shop is a must. The bank and how currency played a role. The meeting house. Just a lot of historical immersion. Go in costume!
Singer sewing machine from early 1900’s my grandma had one loved it
I have two antique sewing machine that I still use today. One is an 1889 hand crank singer and the other a treacle from 1905 I gave away my all singing and dancing electric machine as I knew I would never use it again my daughter is very happy
So, in 1966, I lived in Newfoundland and the first winter, we had a whole bunch of snow. So, all the kids went to the top of a big hill on a side road and we all sledges down the big hill. We had a wooden glider with metal skis. A rope was attached to a front wood slat that could move back and forth by tugging the rope. So you could steer the sled, too. I was almost 6. I sat with my dad on the sled going down. First time sledding and I loved it.
Justine, I came close to drowning in the ocean when I was 10. My 3 younger brothers were with me and almost did, too. A lifeguard finally saw us and we were rescued. If he hadn't gotten us, I would not be here today. I actually blacked out for a few seconds right before I was grabbed, I was so terrified. I was horrible afraid to get into the water for a long time after that. Finally, my cousins taught me to swim at a local pool. It really calm the fears I had. I've also taken a class in college which helped even more. So, I highly suggest learning to swim. It does really make a difference knowing you can combat the water. But I still don't like swimming in the ocean. A pool or lake is okay, but I stay in pretty shallow water if it's the ocean. It was a tide that moved in very quickly that day. It was low tide when my brothers went out and we kept going out, due to the water only being at our waist, thinking it was safe. At 10 and under, we had no understanding of tides. And as an adult, I learned about rip tides that can pull you out to sea easily. So, no deep ocean swimming for me.
Enjoyed the show today and especially the fact telling part. Lots of fun to learn new things. Thanks for that. Hugs! Sue ♥
Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!
So interesting! Thank you for researching and sharing.
I'm excited to watch your video. It sounds really yummy. I remember years ago my grandma made my husband me fried chicken when we visit her or she would make me goulash when we would see her... So watching your videos reminds me a lot of times when my grandma would bake or even can when I was a kid....
You should look up the history of the tomato pin cushion. I cant remember the details about it but there is a story behind it.
Good idea!
Well Ron that meal really caught my eye with the amount of curry and cayenne pepper love spicy meals
Love your cabin! ❤ So simple, beautiful & functional all at the same time. Hello to you from NC. (And hello to MishMish from Sampson, our Orange Tabby 🐱)
I love history I get with your channel
Oh yes! I'm looking forward to the chew and chat.
Great job on the apron Justine. As always a very fun chew and chat with lots of little history information. Always a good time. 😄
I should imagine a lot of spices came from INDIA as curry’s have been around for 100s years.I make proper Asian curry’s they are delicious .love your videos bless you both 🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️
I find it so funny that you are the kind of girl with such character.. you would have made it perfectly as a real american frontier gal in those times. You just found exactly what fits your character. So nice to see that!
I said Ron is not going to tip that plate up and scrape the the rest of that meal into his mouth then yes that’s what he did!! Oh Ron too funny!!
That's a compliment to the cook
Oh I see didn’t know that!!🥴
It most certainly is a compliment to the chef.
Ron, now that Justine has Mish Mish you need to get your self a dog. One breed you might consider is being developed in the eastern frontier of Tennessee. Some people call them the mountain cur. They are a dog well suited for a frontier homestead. They are good at tracking, chasing, treeing or putting game at bay. They can also be trained to herd livestock and since they are brave and loyal they are good homestead protectors. I understand they will even fight bears and painters (panthers). Plus they are big enough you can use them to pack when you go on treks.
If Justine's sewing pin cushion still has the "strawberry" attached to it, it is filled with emery sand and used to sharpen your dulled pins and needles.
You two are just adorable! I’m so glad I found your channel! You definitely have a follower!
Sturbridge Village is awesome. That was a school field trip both myself and my kids enjoyed.
Love these recipes. Made the meat and potato pudding. My husband and boys loved it!
Correcto mundo!! I teach and preach, get your information from reputable sites. Read more than one reputable site.
Glad you guys had a good Christmas and I hope you have a great New Year. Looking forward to your shows in 2023. God bless you and yours. A kiss for Mish Mish.
We had a sled as kids the had the cross piece at the front that a rope was affixed to, and it would help us steer. My dad made it. I am figuring they had oxen back then with yokes...they would have figured it out in early american life.
Happy New Year, Ron and Justine! And because we all love you two and want you to have many more years together, please keep Ron away from skating on any lake. 😉
I will pray that you will discover the strength to learn how to swim. Try a "Kiddy Pool" to learn the process. You can do this!! The sewing machine is a wonderful gift. Keep this guy!!
I knew Ron would love it! Can't say I blame him, it looks SOOOO delish!
It looks really good. As you say, lots of meat, if I tried making something similar I might put in some veggies in place of some of the pork, but yum! Haven’t made curry for ages, think I will check out your chicken curry recipe. Enjoyed the winter sports section. You two are so sweet together. I love the way you support each other.
Dear Justine and Ron, here in the U.K. I have only ever known it as a sledge. Sled, to us, is an American expression, but perhaps not, maybe it is an early name? I love your channel and watch avidly ! McVicar is pronounced like ‘liquor’…..and is the word for a Church of England minister. This dish looks wonderful and I am almost tempted to try it on a gas hob, but it may just miss that gorgeous wood smoke flavour ! Many thanks for your work, and have a very happy and healthy 2023.
Thankyou Ann for watching and for the info! I guarantee it'll still be delicious cooked on a stove top!
Looks so festive and beautiful
5:23 Wow the fact that Ron said this was the best dish has me fascinated because Justine has made so many delicious looking recipes! I might have to try this 1822 dish in my 2022 world
Your videos are so relaxing. You are living my dream I love you both
😊 thank you
Well done. I think you will have much success in the coming year.
I have never had curry but this video has me wanting to try it out! And Wow that is crazy cold. I am in Michigan and the weather doesn't get in negatives much where I am at. And you are absolutely right about researching. I would totally agree about google and how not to research lol. You guys are awesome and always good at teaching everyone something new. You both are a joy to watch and hear from. ☺️
You two are so wonderfully funny. I can have fun swimming but I can't save myself or anyone else. I can't swim that good. The way I first learned how to swim was my husband to me to middle of the deep end of pool and told me to sw!!!!
It's so therapeutic watching you I really like your channel and I really like you guys together you're a beautiful couple GOD BLESS ✝️❤️
You would absolutely LOVE Old Sturbridge Village!!! We lived not far from there and it was very interesting and we went back many times.
I love Sturbridge Village! My kids too. For many years I worked near there in Auburn ( an hour from us) so could go often. I never went at Christmastime; have you?
I love love love both of your channels! They are so calming and relaxing and interesting to watch. 💜
My favorite is the deer/venison pie. Loved your video...
Happy new year 🎉 ✨️. I really love you all. Have you been to Williamsburg. I enjoy your show so very much. Truly at learning experience. Even at 72 years old. God-bless you all and keep safe.

I got my son everything we’d need to cook over our fire pit. Going to have him watch some Early American so he gets some lessons!
This looks delicious to me! Your videos are the highlight of my week💕
