Marvel absolutely should NOT be doing Sentry. The fact that he's so powerful is like 80% of what makes him cool but he's also TOO powerful. He's so powerful that almost any conflict could easily be resolved by just him. So just like the comics he'll either be excluded from most events in some way, he'll be severly nerfed, or his stories will make about as much sense as Captain Marvel's, where he could end them with a thought but just doesn't for no reason. I'd love to see them do something with The Void but they'll "Age of Ultron" that shit and you'll hate it.
I find it funny how in adaptations since the 90s cartoon (which is pretty much just the template for Spidey stories nowadays, great show) they always do the reverse of what the symbiote initially was considering the original comics it was a peaceful entity with Peter’s shitty personality and attitude affected it as opposed to the other way around.
That's far more interesting than it just being evil alien goo that makes Peter evil. Peter's own flaws affecting this creature while it then feeds back into him really shows how its a parasitic relationship between them both. Also hoping for a Ricochet card however slim the chances!
No one ever talks about this, it's so conceptually poetic that you have someone who is given just the right amount of power to be a noble (yet tired and angry) hero, but when he gains more power with the symbiote, it amplifies those negative emotions. However, it doesnt do so directly through poison or magic or anything: it's Peter's internal reaction to having more power
I vaguely recall that the first time Peter ditched the symbiote, he had Reed Richards lock it in a lab, then it escaped, rebonded to him, then we get the iconic clock tower sequence. Here's the kicker: Peter was prepared to die to kill the symbiote. When he lost consciousness, the symbiote pulled him to safety before leaving and encountering Eddy Brock.
Knull has annoyed me for a particular reason: why does his design have a chest logo similar to Venom's? It's been established that the reason Spider-Man looked like that in the black suit is because he was thinking about Spider-Woman's design at the time, and that influenced how his costume looked. Hence, he had the same chest logo that she had. The eyes are also supposed to look like that because of Spider-Man. Venom keeps those bits because he sees Peter as the perfect host, and is obsessed with him. And yet, despite all that being well established, they really want to bring in those design elements for symbiotes that have never met Spider-Man, which I think cheapens an aspect of Venom which is important, diluting that aspect of his character and distancing us from the visual reminder that is right there. But then, I guess comic retcons have always been happening. Back in the day, Martha Kent sewed Superman's costume, and the chest logo just stood for "Superman", before eventually being retconned as the symbol for the House of El. It's a similar aspect, of taking something that was clearly meant to convey one particular thing and making it a more standard part of an alien character's people.
around Knulls story symbiotes have a swirly one eye face and I think the logo is a dragon kinda thing since he seems to be really into those, that gets warped into a spider
It's a trendy thing in psychology that you only back-rationalize your free thought, with some evidence behind it, so it makes perfect sense that symbiosis with a primitive alien mentality would backflow INTO you thinking about hot chicks for procreation purposes. It's also why you're so annoyed, your cortisol rises in response to the dissonance of your held beliefs. Idea of "canon" or "retcon" is this fandom neologism that's actually ruining the terms as such, it's a semi-religious instinct to double down when you're wrong, and seek the approval of mob rule. By actual definition "retroactive continuity" is exactly this sort of thing that reframes EXISTING evidence. If it outright CHANGES something in the past, like almost all use of the word is today, it wouldn't even match the definition. This is what a good retcon looks like: Ben Kenobi gaining character depth by revealing, in film, that he lied about Anakin having REALLY died. But, you tend to do this thing, you have Young Earth creationism. Or you have people saying that exclusive butt rupturing adn contrating HIV instead of children, is new a kind of "marriage" that by the way government needs to subsidize with HIV insurance. Fandoms have not so much increased media literacy but lowered it, partly because English has an issue with no nation having a Langauge Regulatory Body that should be the Talmud to your Constitution. Because you don't, everyone just defers to the recent polls by Oxford English Dictionary in the UK, like it's the decree by Pope, and any term in Constitution can change meaning by context. NEW kind of "canon", whatever a private uni says, He will make true in Heaven.
I really love the newest venom run with Bedlam and Meridus and it is SO wild what theyve done with making Eddie one of the like, 2 or 3 characters that is destined to survive the universal reset like Galactus did.
Feel like they could have called this card “Symbiote Suit” instead of making it spider-man specifically. The way its abilities work make it clear the symbiote is the highlight here. Could have been a fun place to put venomized variants as card variants. Super fun card tho so far and great video!
I’d call them Ariel from the Shakespeare play The Tempest. I’d imagine a scene where the Symbiote would find a copy of The Tempest and flip through it for inspiration on finding a name. Ariel is the main character Prospero’s spirit helper. Ariel’s physical form is ambiguous, is mischievous and ubiquitous, able to change shapes at will. Ariel was Rescued by Prospero from a long imprisonment at the hands of the witch Sycorax. Which could be how Peter unintentionally freed the Symbiote when they first met.
Loved the video. will have to dive into the recomendations! Can’t wait for Scarlet Spider. currently using symbiote ramping into Gwenpool, Nakia and Abs man to boost cards like mysterio, mr sinister and Seb Shaw for some insane last turn numbers
The fact that in the MCU right now we have all the ingredients for the classic origin of Symbiote Spiderman. Peter used a machine to rebuild a costume and Eddie left a small glob of venom in Mexico. Secret wars is coming up, and i can already see them doing that.
Also, I had to pause a time or two in order to make sure that that background slapping/tapping sound wasn’t me. Washing machine or ceiling fan perhaps?
I believe that in the Venom movie continuity he's only weak to a certain threshold of frequencies, so maybe he just got lucky that the rave didn't hit those frequencies
So the S-tier is obviously Norman Osborne, Doc Ock, and (sigh) Venom, and the A-Tier goes to guys like Sandman, Rhino, etc. I’d say that Silver Sable can fit into B-Tier. She’s common enough that she would be known to Spider-Man fans, but not so well known that she’s likely to fight him in a movie.
How is Venom? He's never been the same since he tried to bond with that weirdo in black'n'red. Hopefully Disney and Sony can work something out. I really want Venom to get a chance at revenge. One day maybe we'll see it. Venom Vs Deadpool on the big screen.
