idea for a creature challenge: SCAVENGER! you can eat plants and/or meat (up to you!) but you are not allowed to hunt a creature or harvest fruit yourself. it has to be free-floating food pieces (cell stage) or a creature that was killed by another creature, or the fruit in creature stage that’s laying on the ground. basically if it’s not already dead then you can’t eat it! i’m not sure how food works in tribal stage, but if scavenging would be very difficult or not even possible by then, we can say that once they’ve evolved that much then they have figured out hunting and gathering lmao. you could design them like a vulture, but there’s lots of scavenger animals out there to find inspiration from! vultures are one of my favorite animals though so i think they would be cool, there’s also lots of beaks available in creature stage iirc?
Hey Jankum, just gonna let you know if you didn't know already--In the stage after the Squirties become prey, there is always always ALWAYS, a meteorite with the spit part if you didn't get it. Anyway, great video on Spore again!

Octopus are actually carnivores so yeah but they have proper beaks so either paths are fine. Edit: Scientist (2 red, 2 blue) would make the most sense for an octopus because they are intelligent.
Octopi are normally assumed to be carnivorus however, things in the ocean are a bit different. There aren't really plants as we know them, the closest are algae and it would be odd if there aren't octopi that at least supplement their diet with the plantlike matter.
SPORE! Wow this takes me back! Really enjoying this, very cute little character you got here. Also all octopi are carnivores. Fits with the beak option anyway. 43:17 The Spongebob music slayed me xD

So, you were right in the long gestation idea. Also, gestation refers to the length of time an organism takes fron conception to birth. The term is not specific to mammalians. It is used for at least most if not all multicellular life. In some species of octopus, the mother guards the nest and keeps oxygen rich water flowing over the eggs for up to a year. This is turn weakens the mother and she usually dies not long after the eggs hatch.
You can still affect what type you get after you are done with the stage. You could have just kept eating plants so you could get omnivore. This also works for creature stage.
