0:45 The most harrowing thing about this scene, is that before you see the tsunami you can hear the screams of the initial victims getting cut off as they get swept away by the tsunami. It goes from screaming to silence in no time at all. Terrifying.
Imagine just chilling in a resort and then boom… truly one of the saddest Incidents of this century
I think its starts of in this: 0:38
0:49 i think i hear them screaming: Hurricane!hurricane! AAAHH!!!
That's indeed terrifying and an amazing sound design. You can also see the palmtrees breaking like toothpicks in the reflection at 0:43. Truly a fantastic scene in every aspect 👏
That is what forgiveness sounds like. Screaming and then silence.
The scene of her holding on to a palm and screaming and crying is sooo hard to watch without having a tearing eye. She’s such a great actress, you can feel her fear and feel her physical pain, it’s just amazing and sad to believe that this things actually happen in real life
What is good about this movie is that it shows a tsunami as it really is, not a 1000 meter semi-circular wave as many movies show

I worked at a movie theater when this movie was showing, and this scene was so intense on the big screen, people often got sick and sometimes even passed out. I buy this- so many people have experienced natural disasters and have PTSD, or have other anxiety disorders that are aggravated by witnessing intense scenes. Don't know why that other dude was doubting you.
To be honest, the boy (Lucas) was really smart in jumping into the pool.
He avoided the wave impact, and all the waste and stuff that it carried.
I know that doesn't exactly guarantee you to survive, but it increases your survival rate a lot more, since you dont take the full force of the wave.
Props also for reacting fast, not knowing whats happening, and all of a sudden you see a big wave couple of seconds away from you, most people froze not knowing what to do.

This movie always makes me cry. So unbelievable to think this happened. How terrifying for all those poor souls.
The father carrying his boys away, and tumbling over… that is so powerful. The way he fell back, before he fell forward, to keep those boy’s heads above the water. He used his body like a protective wall.
The older boy’s scream, as the debris cuts into his back, even through the protection of the pool…
The mother screaming every time she’s cut or slammed with debris…

That last minute shelter in place brace pose she does against the pool glass was so realistic traumatizing on a level that truly hits home about having no one but yourself in that final moment. Out of all the disaster movie sequences, this one is still by far the scariest to me. The sheer magnitude of the chaos and destruction would be terrifying to experience in real life.
Because this is one of the few disaster movies that actually happened and is depicted close to realism. Most disaster movies are based on fictitious scenarios with events that have never occurred on earth.
Just wait till you watch all movies from the "Final Destination" Series. I don't even feel safe anymore after seeing them.
What makes it more scary is that IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.

When I was younger, 10 and below, I used to be so confused that a wall of water can kill people. "Surely it just hurts a bit and then they swim to the top, or maybe they die because they're trapped in a building". Then I watched this film and I realised that every single object along the Tsunami's path becomes a life-threatening projectile: A pool-side tile, a parasol, shards of glass, a decorative rock, a branch or piece of wood, a brick, a rope, a metal fence, a toaster, a wooden fence, a bottle, clothes, a chair or a table, a car, a tin can, an aluminium can, a phone charging cable, a plant pot, a plate, a knife, a fork, a person.

I went through Hurricane Harvey in 2017 when the Neches river spilled over. The current was so strong it was unlike anything I ever experienced. The entire first floor of my house was flooded and it felt like the foundation that the house was standing on was about to cave in. Waited about 4 days on the 2nd floor without power and running water for the National Guard to come. Tsunamis and floods are no joke. The fact that this entire family survived is a miracle.
You know it’s a movie. Right? Nvm I’m very stupid and dumb my apologies
@@justnila3585 I'm not sure if you are saying that because you didn't want to reduce his hurricane experience? Or because you realized while writing it that this is based on a true story?
@@bp51082 I realized it was based on a true story
i lived near west oaks and then hurricane Harvey hit, it was like a never ending rain. The next day we saw that our neighborhood was flooded, we took our canue and went in our neighborhood helping people, thank luckily our house did not get flooded, i then started to cry wishing that everything would stop (i was 11 btw at that time). after 5 days everything stopped. idk how many months but everyone in my family recoverd well except my friend his house got flooded and we helped his family clean the mess up. And now 2 months ago a winter storm hit Houston and everyone was suffering without power. people died due to them turning on their generators inside their house, that was the worst week of my life because it reminded me of harvey. today im doing well and everyone is safe
@@mrsmile8064 Glad you made it through kiddo. Sounds like it was a tough time. People often ask how we can deal with the earthquakes and fires out on the west coast. I wonder about the crazy weather in the same way for all of you
It must be so lucky to the people who still stayed in the last floor of the hotel
The fact that it’s a true story…just makes me cry…
