I like how this movie seems to be more realistic than most natural disaster movies. Like the main characters arnt the only smart people who know to get over the tsunami, the rouge waves, how the water retreats, etc.
How to survive apocalypses like this: 1. Be a cameraman 2. stay with the camera man 3. Be the main character 4. Stay with the main character 5. Buy some Hollywood plot armor
I remember seeing footage of a real tsunami, people on the beach saw the water receding but weren't aware of what it meant, some walked further out into where the water was just a few moments ago. It was very sad.
I remember seeing this to, it was very sad not knowing what was going to happen. I think we have all learnt now from this unfortunate experience if this ever occurs again.
I was in my 40s. Until the 2004 Tsunami, we didn't know. We all heard stories and saw paintings, but no one alive had ever experienced one to tell us. Well, now we know. Much MUCH worse than anyone realised. The land you are on drops a meter (after the massive 9.6 quake) and the Pacific Ocean shows up at your town 90 feet over your head. The water is the color of mocha coffee, totally opaque, and it is carrying burning islands of debris that knock over everything. Just a really bad situation all around. Get 5 miles inland and 5 floors up a modern building.
The Vicar at our Episcopal church in Hawaii went out to the beach to warn islanders who ventured out onto the exposed coastal reefs to collect shellfish, urchins, stranded fish, etc. on Hilo in 1946. He barely survived the ordeal jumping into a pontoon skiff in his back yard as the wave took out his home and he rode out the tsunami hanging onto his capsized boat bouncing off buildings and cars. He was astounded how few people understood the warning signs of the approaching tsunami.
Well I cried but after crying I went into my imagination and went into that tsunami and stopped that tsunami then I said no need to worry grandma and grandpa 🔥😎😛🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
3:29 is pretty damn impressive CGI. For a ridiculously giant wave and a tanker tipped onto it's end hitting a bridge, the look and physics is scary real looking
I'd argue it's pretty unrealistic in that it shows a huge container ship standing on end, in reality it would have crumpled like a soda can. They are strong, but the colossal weight of such things would mean they'd crumple under their own weight if the stern hit bottom like that. It's depicted like it's made of the "rigid-bodium" we talked about in engineering school - a hypothetical material that doesn't break or deform regardless of loads. Was probably modeled as a rigid body in CGI rather than something that could deform as it would realistically. Regardless, the CGI is impressive, especially the water - making water hitting and flowing around stuff, and splashing, realistically is very difficult to do convincingly with CGI, and this looks quite good. Lot of computing power went into this!
I don't know if this was suppose to be unintentionally hilarious but this made me smile the whole time watching it. This is the definition of entertaining action schlock and works as a comedy because it just keeps absurdly escalating.
This is really odd sense of humor, considering this isn't unlikely to happen. Japan experienced this not too long ago. Could happen to any other country.

The first two are the only ones that will work as main characters tend to die a lot. Take Antonio Montana from Scarface.

I remember seeing footage of a real tsunami, people on the beach saw the water receding but weren't aware of what it meant, some walked further out into where the water was just a few moments ago. It was very sad.
Thanks to youtube and movies. I know what it means 👍
in the years following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, I think everybody knew what that means.
Who else cried when the grandma and grandpa were hugging ... :(

Despite being a widely inaccurate event since the San Andreas Fault is a transform boundary, not a subduction zone, this is still an impressive scene.
gotta turn the brain off for these movies. but yeah, it's a fun scene,.
2014
@@quillmaurer6563 Goddamn dude don't be a scientist guy. in my opinion the physics pretty damn scary
The sound design is pretty good too at that part
that's not what Japan thought🤦
Yeah for a 2015 movie the cgi is actully unbeleavable
I don't know if this was suppose to be unintentionally hilarious but this made me smile the whole time watching it. This is the definition of entertaining action schlock and works as a comedy because it just keeps absurdly escalating.
Lol! You're a sociopath, dude, lol
This is really odd sense of humor, considering this isn't unlikely to happen. Japan experienced this not too long ago. Could happen to any other country.
@@awsomeboy360 A real tsunami looks nothing like that.
