    The over saturated green filter really felt cheap and amateur on the Blu-ray, was fatiguing to the eye and you start craving some color after awhile. This new accurate color grade is a breath of fresh air, and almost like a dream come true. Was waiting for it for so long but never really expected them to course correct so dramatically. Huge props for a proper release.

    Why does this have so few views/comments?
    Just watched 2 higher positioned vids about the color + Reddit comments but this video is much, much better!

      Agreed, this was excellent. I need to check out more of this guy’s channel… hopefully he covers some more films I’m interested in.

    The Wachowskis talked about the deliberate choice to make the matrix scenes very green to give it a machine "dream" vibe. Doubt this 4k version more laid "normal" version is how it should have looked. its probably somewhere in between the two.

    HD DVD version blows them all away on my 77" LG C2 and I have all 4 versions including the 4K.

    What about the regular blu-ray that is included in the set? Does it have the new grading?

    I mean, it looks nicer overall but the art direction is all over the place. The scenes inside the Matrix itself are supposed to be green but with the 4K release, sometimes they are green, sometimes they aren't, sometimes they have a bit of green, sometimes too much. The standard Blu-Ray was more consistent. Although the Blu-Ray suffers of having everything be green, including the real world scenes which were supposed to be blue.

    i watched the Matrix in theatres in 99 i think it was, probly the best sci fi movie i ever saw in theatres.

      Just messing around. People can like the green filter all they want, I recently got my nicely graded 4K UHD 3 film collection (purposely avoiding that horrible fourth film), so I'm good! Haha! 😄

    As far as I can remember, the 4K version is pretty much how the people in theatre watched it back when it was first released. However, the bluray version added a lot of charachter to the movies with the addition of green and blue tint

      makes sense , scenes in the “real world” were greenish in the blu ray which makes no sense. the scenes in the matrix world still have the green tint it’s just toned down and accurate to the cinema release. i think we all got used to how green the movie looked cause of the home releases being very green.

      @@TwinFlicks I only know what I saw. The green things is what it is known for and is intentionally colored that particular way. I worked in Commercials and films all through the 80's and 90's and saw it dozens of times.

    • @mrhobs

      I mostly know the color by the DVD, which was supposedly fairly close to the theatrical color grade, maybe just a tad brighter/warmer. The super green Blu-ray was a later decision made by the the filmmakers (not sure who exactly, directors, colorists…?), so you can still like the Blu-ray as an official alternative, but… it’s not original, they pulled a mild George Lucas and “fixed it” later. The original colorist/cinematographer corrected this revision for the 4K, and now it’s about as close as we’re gonna get to the theatrical look… and if I allow time to readjust, this may be my favorite version color-wise. Anything is better than the ultra drab over saturated green Blu-ray…

    • @TwinFlicks
      @TwinFlicks  8 місяців тому +4

      @mrhobs the bluray grading was by the studio not by the filmmakers

    Agree 100% was able to catch in the theater and feel it’s an example of the perfect movie with the perfect ending. Never needed sequels.

    • @mrhobs
      @mrhobs 8 місяців тому +1

      Yep. The second two I view as kind of an imaginary “what if” scenario. Just a bonus look into the world, separate from the original masterpiece. Kinda helps that they were released back to back in the same year, so it’s really just one big separate thing. Anyway, second film is kinda boring (maybe I’ll give it another try), but the third one is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Really enjoyed it in the theater.
      4th one was a joke… literally. Man what a shame. I went out of my way to buy the older trilogy release on 4K, rather than own that abomination 4th film in the new Deju Vu collection… at least I’ll have one great film, and two decently entertaining ones instead of that plus one trash film to sour the whole thing (much worse then the two sequels ever could)… I mean 4 had potential, the trailer intrigued, even excited me… man, can’t anyone write a decent flippin movie anymore? 😆

    • @donmorton7282
      @donmorton7282 8 місяців тому +1

      Completely agree, part 4 was terrible, but I’ll look to upgrade the original trilogy to 4K. The first one is too good not to upgrade.
