The best and most straightforward video on patching siding. Without the unnecessary extra jibberish. Great video
The best and most straightforward video on patching siding. Without the unnecessary extra jibberish. Great video!!! Good job!
This is the quickest and easiest fix an average guy and not so handy man type can do. Thanks.
Great method to patch damaged vynle. Thanks so much!! I like the quick and easy way you patched the small damaged piece! 👍👍
I patched holes left from old electrical boxes, after watching this video it was easy and fun, thanks .
Excellent how-to DIY patch! Neighbor just threw me an Ommegang Abbey Ale for patching her siding-thanks to you!
Agree with jdat below, save the scraps....and tin snips make a nice cut on vinyl.
Thanks again, highly recommend this technique!
Thanks for the video. This is my next project.
Rick rolled! In the intro you mentioned that one can patch any type of siding, even showed some preview footage of cutting some WOOD siding, and actually on showed us vinyl. On behalf of people with vinyl siding to fix, thank-you. Form those of us with wood siding to patch...
there was also great B roll of tools, with mention of "a couple tool" but sadly not included in the actual video.
Very clever. Thanks for posting.
Really helped a lot. Thanks for posting this video.
Oh wow, this is the easiest yet, just what I need. I think I can do this one myself saving me $$ thank you so much!!
Just did this on Double 4” aluminum too. More difficult than vinyl, but it works.
Just what I needed...Thanks a million.
Great video and explanation….Thank you.
leave it to fine homebuilding to give us a nicely done instructional video! Thanks!!
Excellent video. Good tips on repairs of vinyl siding. 👌
this guy is a legend 👍
Thank you for this!
Thanks for the info guys !
WOW. Thanks so much! I don't feel brave enough to pull out a long row of siding. I'll do the patchwork for now.
Awesome Tips thank you!!
This was perfect. Thanks.
Awesome! Thanks. I have a ton of hail damage and this is an easy fix rather than pulling out 30 different panels to fix multiple small holes
Exactly what we need to do, thank you!
excellent. just what I needed. subscribed
looks like a quick and easy fix, hopefully I can get it done before the wife notices the damaged I caused with the weedeater.
This is on my to do list, I'm doing it today, I just wanted to double check on how to cut the top of the siding. I'll return with how it went.
OK I got it completed but the top part of the siding, I had to cut more off in order to insert the cut piece up under the already attached siding, other wise it went as you illustrated. The newer piece will eventually fade to match as the siding faces east. TYVM for the demonstration.
great video, I will do this on a hole that's about 25' up. I doubt anyone will see the seams that high
Great tip. I just did this near a door opening. I cut my piece long enough to fit over into J channel of the door so I could hide one seam. Now I only have one seam showing which I doubt anyone will notice. This could have been done on this temp repair as well.
you got that right..
Great video thanks. I hope my guys watch this
Perfect! Thank you! ~ T.
That was slick. I'm gonna do that to my house.
awesome idea!!!
Awesome 😎👍 thanks. I found the right video for the repair that I need to do thanks again. Cheers 🍻
Great trick ... thinking it looks so good I wouldn't get around to doing the whole panel. This is a good time to mention that you should always try to save some scraps from when you have the vinyl install (or when you install it). Just throw some scraps in the attic, they will come in handy as it can be a pain to match color later. lol, as if I'm one to lecture about safety, but there's really no reason to draw that knife towards your thumb like that, w/ no glove to boot. Use wire cutters
Would this be ideal for more than one piece of damaged vinyl? I wouldn't want my project to turn sloppy. Excellent video. Educational. Straightforward.
Big help thanks..
My home has wood siding with a lot of damage in various places. Do you need to replace wood with wood or can you use this method to patch the wood with vinyl? Thanks for the vid!!
Thank you!
Great vid
This is exactly the way that I repair my vinyl siding with the exception of I install it using a tube of silicone and I make my patch a little wider at least 3 feet that way you'll never notice it. Just make sure your patch is not near another seam .
Hi. Could you explain how you install it with the tube of silicon? Just looking for an easier way to install it
John Doughnut It’s used as water proofing. Basically perimeter glue the patch.
@@TwoBitty Thank ya. I figured it out haha
Where do you buy the siding material? I need some for my place, but can’t find the right dimensions?
1:27 I just had a Beavis and Butt-head moment.
Do you know if there is a glue or adhesive that would work putting a piece of vinyl over vinyl siding. I would temporarily tape it or lean a board against it. We have some ice damage along our deck siding.
I have old school aluminum and the btm row has popped off the track. Any tips on how to reinstall and clip that btm row back on the btm clip?
my aluminum rivets are going through the siding. what size / brand of rivet do you use?
Are all siding same size?
Thanks for the video. U sound a lot like Ray Romano from Everybody loves Raymond.
i meant tin snips, they work good on vinyl too.
Would this method also work for aluminum siding?
The color of that house was painful, and he wore a short to match 😆. But on a serious note thanks for the help I'll be using this method!
Can I use a small Phillips stainless steel screw instead of pop revets??
throw some silicone on the outer inside edges of that patch piece and call it good.
I am having a hard time finding aluminum siding? Got any leftovers?
Genius!
Can I use a piece of vinyl to patch aluminum siding?
What about aluminum siding? How to fix it? We have our fake chimney taking down and it has an open wall area there and we don't know what or how we gonna fix it.
If i was doing that patch, i would have ran the one end under the window channel, seems pretty obvious, gotta wonder why he didnt even tho it is just a temporary patch.
If I don't have rivets, would small screws work?
what is that nail that he uses to secure the siding from underneath at the end?
I wrote it down cause i will have to buy one, he said 'pop the rivet in place' to hold the siding....So i assume it a pop rivet gun, I'll just buy one at Home Depo....They'll know what I'm talking about, in fact Ive seen them in the store but didn't know what they were used for!
Arrow Swivel Rivet Tool
What is the name of the rivet tool you used?
Where can I get the nail tool from
Hi, whats that 'handy tool' you used to lock the siding after drilling holes? will i get it in home depot?
Pop riveter
Where you get those panels
Extrapoints for color matching your shirt to your siding.
wheres the video on cedar clapboard siding??
Come back later and finish it? Pfft! As far as I'm concerned that's fixed!
Justin H
No doubt, looks Done to me!
my problem is that the strip I need to fix also has a pipe to the upstairs ac unit punched thru.

It seems like no siding professional can answer my question wow. My question: I need to meet one side of the wall with the other side in the middle is a breezeway so I need to come up on one side and up the other side but need both to meet at roof ridge of the breezeway. How can I do this???
Kinda hard to answer the question without seeing it but I may have an answer. Measure up from the bottom or measure down from above above the ridge and chalk a line above the ridge. Now measure down from the line and run your pieces on each side. Just check your peices with a torpedo level (aprox. 6" long) and measure every 3 runs or so to make sure each side is alligned. Again it is hard to say without seeing it and I don't know if you have a level area to start with. I am no professional sider either just trying to give you some help.
Will try this! What would you suggest using to make nice clean cuts on the edges of the piece you're going to use? I think a chop or scroll saw would just tear up the plastic. Not sure I can cut perfectly straight with a utility knife or with snips.
Tried tin snips, got a pretty clean edge!
Where do you find replacement pieces that match my house?
You have to pop off part of your siding and look behind it. It will have a number back there for you to google your local distributor.
there thin them sheets in the uk double thick
Mike, where can I buy pop gun for repair?
👊👊👊
why didn't you have the patch run to the window? then you would have one less vertical seam.
I have a few vertical seams on my cottage, and it was done by a professional contractor!
I just burned my house down and reported an electrical fire to my insurance company. Fuck replacing the siding
touche yay.!
Kinda half-assed but looks great
Only talked about vinyl siding what about cement or others
Rivet Gun.
Bob Vila this old siding lmao
hello ...why didn't you butt it to the window trim leaving one edge showing...goodbye...
I hear someone talking but I don't see anyone.
I see a floating head 😂
It kills me how every single one of these experts !DO NOT! know how to use a boxer cutter properly. You cut away from your body, not towards, practice safe working environments or not sl all!
Thanks a Wrong way to fix siding. Why not Replace the section and do it right ?????????? if you know siding you know what I'm Talking about.... good luck all of you with the advise.....
Ya! No shit! I'm sure you have to subscribe to some DAMN THING!
Vinyl siding.? Why. Use wood
This is a terrible idea, you should replace the whole panel. You shouldn’t have seems two feet from any edge or window, let alone having two seems 2 feet away from the window. And it doesn’t look clean like replacing the whole panel would. I’d be so mad if a repair man did this to my house. Don’t be lazy, replace the whole thing!
You can replace the whole piece of siding quicker than trimming and pop riveting a little piece. What a joke.
yeah, sure ya can.
+Carl Sellers And what if those big home depot and lowes suppliers don't carry your style/size of vinyl?
+MrKellyak47, I'm sure you probably can't but most people could.
If your siding is more than 5 years old it would be an absolute miracle if you could find a matching piece.
