Already having my Cat C, I did my C+E test out of Garrets Green test centre today. Passed first time, 3 minors. This demonstration and commentary drive was invaluable. Many thanks.
By far easily the best instructional video I've seen on how to drive a Class 1 with all the information there on how to approach roundabouts, junctions, being aware of all the signs and signals and not to forget follow through checks.....thank you
I've just watched the 1hr from garret Green to Coleshill liked it took me back to training in 1990s I still have regular assessments pass highway code and try to keep my standards high
I have just done my class 1 from car with A1. I had Gerry as my instructor and this route was always one of my least favourite ones but he was brilliant at keeping me calm. I was so happy when I didn’t get this route on my test and passed with 2 minors ☺️
Hi mate, how did you find this course/driving class 1 going from car to class 1/ did you find it difficult? also, how did you find getting work after as a new driver? thanks in advance.
I did that test route from George Lovatts yard, Coleshill. Did that route most days on my training, so i was buzzing I got that one on my test. Passed with 4 minors. Not bad 👌

I was driving buses for the previous two years and you have to steer buses later as the wheels are behind you this really helped with the forward part of driving an artic and I just about managed to reverse one without looking like a complete twat.

@@a1trainingservices Hi mate. Just a quick question regarding indicating/ signalling. Think you said didn't have to indicate back in after cones on road. When i did my class 1 licence lessons. I always remember my driving instructor saying to me, Always indicate the direction you are traveling in even if its a lane only for turning that direction. Also was in Canada for few years and cops will do you give you ticket if dont singal going back into lanes or turns. So i never not do it always indicate all time. Leave in uk now and have seen even cops changing lanes no indicators or turning corners does my nut in lol. Also just another point on lights . I was always told put my ruinning lights on as parking lights which i still do even sunny days never off. Most these new cars and trucks have auto lights and car dealers tell people just leave them on .No need put lights on cause have auto lights on all time. But people dont realise only on front most have no rear lights on with auto. I see trailers dark mornings lights on cab but no lights on trailers. Do they not do there walk around checks on trailers 🤷🏽♂️🤦♂️ And cars on dark wet days. All lights on front when look at their rear all lights off.no wonder there loads crashes. Better to be seen than not.Sorry just a rant on something gets me 👍
I’m currently on my 4th retake on this route so tricky as a learner but you made it so simple 👏🏼 definitely be checking over this video for future tests
Got my test next week! So glad im already a bus driver i think its gunna make it alot easier! I certainly don’t feel as nervous as i would be with out psv licence 😅
So much information & a bit scary to realize I'll have to remember all that. Maybe after watching it a couple of more times, I'll start to feel confident.
Depending on the circumstances of the truck, you should always place vehicle in N neutral as some trucks operate a computer operated clutch, leaving the truck in gear stopped will burn the clutch out eventually. Best to teach them to put the vehicle in N neutral and make them check the gear they are in before pulling away.
Hi, great video with a lot of good points to learn! Please🙏 create a separate video with some diagrams and reference points for taking right and left turns on different kinds of junctions and roundabouts! Thank you in advance!♥
It's about time the council did something about tile cross roundabout. Or move the bollards on the exit into tile cross road a bit further away from the junction to give hgv,s a bit more room , as the kerbs are always getting ripped off the roundabout
The fact that you didn't stop talking once, proves just how much concentration you need to drive through urban areas. You really can't switch off for a second. How you're supposed to look in your mirrors every few seconds and concentrate on the road ahead with one set of eyes is what i find very difficult. I have so much more respect for lorry drivers after learning to drive one.
Great instructional video, noticed you didn't seem to use the exhaust retarder with experience it's possible to drive with little braking. It's great when losing speed off the gas on approach to any hazard smooths out the driving.
Hi Steve, great observation yes your right we don’t teach using the retarder in initial lessons as unfortunately there simply isn’t enough time. We do however do cover it in the advanced and defensive driving course 👍
27:45 If you came to this on your test and there was enough space to get by but you weren't sure it was safe, so you decide to stop and wait. Would that cost you a fail? Because I'm pretty sure my instructor would be pushing me to go through there, but I'd be looking at that and thinking no chance. I've had quite a few scenarios when I've held back, braked or even attempted to stop and had him telling me to go on, even when I'm on the wrong side of the road with a bus coming straight at me from down hill and I've had more than enough space to move to the left to pass safely. He's told me to stay over the right. To me it felt far safer to simply move back to the left and then signal and indicate out again to pass more parked cars up ahead. My instructor seems very impatient. I think he's still thinking he's screaming down the M62 with twenty minutes left on his tacho!! Your commentary is amazing. To be able to call out everything that's happening, give advice, what if scenarios all while actually driving a HGV in real time. Brilliant instructor!
Glad you enjoyed! I would aways air on the side of caution on test, you can get 3 undue hesitations and pass but one serious and your fail. Hope that helps 😊👍
@@a1trainingservices Much better today after a few days training. Instructor was telling me; As long as you're safe, go for it! They all seem happy with me. Feeling confident! 😎
thanks! great video for hgv class 1 license hopefuls. did you make the blue car (maybe a ford) from the right slow down at 14:30? what are the rules in such situations?
Hi Ronnie, do you mean at the second mini roundabout? If so that vehicle was going straight on so we didn’t cause the vehicle to slow or change direct.
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to seek your advice regarding a specific concern I have encountered on my tested route. During my assessments, I have noticed that there is a narrow road which can be obstructed by unloading lorries. This situation poses a significant challenge, as it becomes impossible to navigate through in a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) without mounting the kerb. Given the importance of maintaining safety and compliance on test days, I would greatly appreciate your guidance on how to manage such a scenario effectively. Could you please advise on best practices for handling this situation? Any recommendations or strategies you may have would be extremely helpful to ensure a safe and successful outcome. Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your prompt response. Warm regards, Janco
Thanks for the question Janco. If this happens on test the examiner would advise on how to proceed, they will avoid area like this where you would be unable to pass safety. If this does happen on test do not mount the curb to get past but ask the examiner how he would like you to proceed. Hope that helps! Best of luck on your test.
@@a1trainingservices Thank you for your quick response regarding the proposed route for the upcoming test. No it won’t. You can’t drive manual gear box vehicles at all. If you want to drive a trucks with manual gear, you need to do a retest for a car driving license all over again. That’s why it’s always best to do a car license on a manual, then you can drive any vehicle and get a job in a company if they have vehicles only with a manual gear.
Was just wondering because I've got my test tomorrow and that's what I'm most worried about is clipping a kerb incase I fail the test, there's one corner that I can't seem to make it through without clipping the kerb a little
The problem with the test is that its so anethetised and not realistic because its so militantly policed. The focus should be on competence and smoothness rather than remembering the need for mirrors every 7 seconds or so.
