    Painting seems so simple, but its an art and takes a skill to do it right. Lots of respect.

    I really like Purdys yellow cut-in pail. It has a catch for the roller handle and a magnet for the brush. I use the liners and reuse them until they become a liability then toss. Good tool if you're a professional. Handles are comfortable too

    You really helped me save time and got better quality by going over my brush strokes with the whizz and I only have to cut once. I lightly sand before and in between coats. The one cut and a loaded whizz really does work, but it looks great as well! Thanks, from Cincinnati Ohio!!

    • @rowankeltizar5961

      Lightly sand? Why? Dust wi
      ll make your paint not stick and peel. Not a good idea unless you have a good dust extractor, wet microfiber mop. And even then I would NOT do it in between coats, only before primer and only needed on a smooth wall. I've only ever sanded walls once as a professional painter. And that's because they wanted a near perfect finish on a smooth wall with a lot of prior issues. Furthermore I sprayed those walls. The point is moot if you are rolling and brushing.

    At 14:00 where you're discussing letting the cut in dry before rolling the second coat or not. You said you were comfortable letting it dry because it's a high end paint and white. I'm painting my garage as a 1 person job, and I'm using a high end grey paint. I'm a beginner and I don't think I could be fast enough to go back and roll over the cut in before it dries. Would it be okay to let the cut in dry before rolling over it during the second coat? Or with a darker color is it absolutely necessary to roll over it while it's still wet?

    • @Aaron-nj4ou
      @Aaron-nj4ou 4 місяці тому +1

      I know that with the fast drying paint like BM Aura they actually recommend letting it dry first. So cut and edge the entire room and then roll it. Aura dries so fast it would be almost impossible to keep a wet edge anyway unless you had at lest two people painting at the same time.

      Use a high-end paint. I know a lot of people make fun of Berh paints, but I use them for the walls and they are excellent either Marquee or Dynasty like Chris mentioned in the video. I can cut in and go back when it's dry and no problem, mid colours. It also helps if the wall is primed beforehand as well, so the paint settles correctly and doesn't get pulled into the wall on first coat.

    Im sure you know this but when i roll corners with the weenie i always roll both sides. Reason being is your first pass you jam it in there and fill in, second pass on opposite wall gets rid of roller pattern. Just roll close ss you can but not in the corner .Will look terrible otherwise. 25 year painter. Was a teacher too, love to show people the pro tips.

    I was told I was ambidextrous when I was a kid but always favored my right hand for writing. When I started cutting in I found out I can use both hands easily. I don't usually hold my bucket just set it on the floor or hang it on the ladder. Once I get flowing and switch my brush from hand to hand I can cut a wall pretty fast

    I just discovered your channel! I think this is the only painting site I'm gonna need. Here's a question for you. Are you using the LITTLE GIANT, THREE STEP LADDER? It looks like one of the ladders you use. If so, I would like to buy one of these. Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm painting just the inside of my house. My living room has high ceilings, but I'm sure this short ladder will be great for the all of the other rooms. Thanks!

    Chalk the joint where the wall meets the ceiling, give yourself a surface to cut into and you will have a straighter cut; this trick works well. Give it a shot and you'll be glad you did.

      Some do some dont, try both see what you like. Tip, thin a little not alot. Use water for water base cleanup, use thinner for oils. I like my paint a little thinner for cutting heavy textured walls, and brushing trim, much better layoff. Play with it ,good painting to ya.

    I’m in the middle of the toughest job I’ve had. The woman I’m painting for wants near perfection. She has a little powerful flashlight she carries and shines up and down into every corner, crack and crevice for shadows caused imperfections in the drywall. She gets down and feels the baseboards. She looks from far and then close to see if the line is truly straight. The issue is that the ceiling is textured and the guy didn’t do a good job so I have drywall spots that weren’t filled all the way to the wall that I don’t want to get into because I don’t want to bother the texture on the ceiling I’ve already had to put 15 coats on while having the ceiling refinished twice.
    Iv had the issue you have with cheating the paint onto the ceiling and she wasn’t happy with it so I had to recut the ceiling onto the wall so I could recut the wall to the ceiling. I’m sure you would have thought of that but it might be a good tip to share for new painters who think they need to try to cover the old cut line with a new one.

      I've had one or two of the "Monk" inspectors in my career, and the first thing you need to know is he/she is mentally ill with excessive compulsive disorder. The second thing you need to know is you cannot make them satisfied with the work. Even the law, as screwed up as it is, does not require a craftsman to perform to impossible standards. Sounds like your in to deep to quit; let this be a lesson. I learned years ago whole in the auto body and paint biz that once a customer is unhappy even when you make it right they are still not happy.

      what did he say that was wrong?

    • @photographer128
      @photographer128 18 днів тому +3

      @@russellbutler836 It's one thing after another that makes him look like an amateur to me. He's wearing a black shirt and gloves while using near white paint. I've never seen a professional painter wear gloves. He gets white paint on his shortly into the video. Nor do professional painters use sash brushes to cut in walls. They hold too little paint. He says it's a matter of choice but it's really a matter of speed for a professional. It took him 12 years to move up from a 2 1/2 inch brush to a 3".He's using some weird thing for a ladder that forces him to hold the bucket instead of hanging it on a nail or a pot hook. The bucket is too big because he's using a roller. If he would cut in before rolling he would never need a roller to remove brush texture and if he had enough speed he would be rolling wet paint into wet solving any texture problem. Caulking to the ceiling is the last thing I would do because it turns a right angle into a curved one and makes it harder to make a straight line with a brush. If the ceiling is textured I would use a thin, 1", flexible putty knife to cut out any texture from the corner and then you can make a straight line instead of getting paint onto the ceiling as he suggests. He says he always does two coats. I've covered thousands of walls with one coat. I've used many different brands of paint over 50 years. The only brand I only used once and decided, never again, is Behr, which he recommends. I could go on if I looked at the rest of the video. The good thing is he puts thought into how he does things. The bad thing is he still hasn't figured it out.

      I'm glad I've come across someone else who thinks the same as me.
      He drives me nuts.
      I've been a decorator for 50 years too (UK) I know we do things differently but even at that he has some weird ideas.
      1. He's the cleanest painter I've ever seen, never have I come across a working painter in that condition, usually our shoes or boots take a beating but not his.
      2. Wearing gloves inside ... embarrassing.
      3. His constant use of the term 'caulking' for what is contained inside a tube of caulk. That's like calling paint a tin of painting. Caulking is what you do with caulk.
      4. As you say, his choice of brush is odd, he seems obsessed with cutting, and 12 years to pluck up up the courage to use a 3inch is hilarious.
      5. That stupid bucket and his mini roller. There's absolutely no need for that step. It could be missed out entirely, bring down the cut a bit and roll up with the big roller. Use the small one for the door tops fine.
      6. It's more of a fashion shoot than actually showing people anything useful.
      7. His ludicrous made-up terminologies, for things that painters don't say.
      There I'm done...

    Look to be fair this is probably the worst example of cut in , firstly should be doing the ceiling with the room and bring it down to eliminate the old paint that’s gone up , all this is , is when the line is not straight it’s an excuse that you had your cover up old line , this is just basic Redec , not decorating, this type of cutting in anybody with little experience could do , ,

      Not every customer wants a full repaint. When they just want the walls painted you give them what they are asking/paying for. Even if you did paint the ceiling, you are still going to cut your line up onto the ceiling a hair so it looks as straight as possible.

    • @hkin8
      @hkin8 8 місяців тому +1

      Have some white wit you feather around that old paint edges on the ceiling, ( tint it a little if you have to that old paint has to be gone , I’m not hating on the guy I watch his content , some useful spray information, but his definitely not a decorator, the brush his using is a safe brush to get you a roughly straight line up on the ceiling, not good enough for decorating , all I’m saying he hasn’t the training or the skill to warrant making this video
