Downton Abbey: A New Era: In 1928, Tom Branson (Allen Leech), the Earl of Grantham's widowed son-in-law, marries Lucy Smith (Tuppence Middleton), the illegitimate daughter of and sole heir to Lady Maud Bagshaw, Queen Mary's lady-in-waiting. Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith), the Dowager Countess of Grantham, astonishes the family by revealing that long ago she was gifted a villa in the South of France by the Marquis de Montmirail, who has recently passed away. She is leaving it to her great-granddaughter, Sybbie, Tom's daughter with the late Lady Sybil Crawley, to ensure that she has a more equal social and financial standing to her cousins. The principal cast of the first film returned. Joining the cast are Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, Dominic West and Jonathan Zaccaï.

Very proud of Mary in this moment. She's really grown so much since 1912.
I liked that Mary ultimately stayed with her husband, and didn't leave him for Barber, as tempting as that might have been.
Mary is written as the moral good noble character. Abandoning everything to be a mistress is something " bad" characters would do . Like Thomas who left to be a sugar baby
@@marionarda2790 "Noble?" Lol. I think she's less concerned about "morality" _per se_ than what people think. She's definitely willing to break the rules if she thinks there won't be any significant price to pay. (Remember Gillingham, or even Pamuk?) But her marriage with Henry, even if it has ups and downs, means something to her.
@@marionarda2790 Leaving to be happier is a bad thing? Keep in mind the time period here, there’s no way he could be anything but what you describe as a ‘sugar baby’ and I shouldn’t need to explain why. If leaving something behind means less misery for you, why wouldn’t you do it? Mary is in her own predicament, being extremely upper class, but at least Thomas can do it without scandal as long as he steps lightly.
@@jenniferhiemstra5228 homosexuality was just as illegal in the US . And the minute Guy tires of him , Thomas is left with nothing in a country he doesn't know with noone he knows and zero job prospect

Granted this is what? 1928? So things aren't going to be easy for job-seekers (or much of anyone) on either side of the Atlantic for long... But it's not like being a butler in late-1920s Britain was a very secure position to be in, either.
In my opinion, right at this very moment she transformed into her grandmother. I loved it!

Still think Charles was the best for Mary after Matthew's death. They were equal on every level.

I love both movies of downton abby and all seasons of Downton abby.

To be fair to Mr. Barber, while he knows she is married, he also knows that marriage isn't going well. She compared him to her "perfect" husband and called her current one a "good helpmate." She also didn't answer the question of if she loved her current husband. With all that information a fair assumption might be that Henry's extended racing tour may involve infidelity. That being the case Mary might be open to a relationship with him. That's why he asks. He's infatuated and a bit of a romantic.
Why? She she's already tarnished. Remember Mr. Pamuk? She's a saint in her own mind.

You don't just hit people who ask you a question, even an inappropriate one. Not unless you'd like to personally experience the meaning of "equal rights, equal fights."

LOLOLOLOL i read it somewhere that the actor got other schedule. But yeah it’s sad not seeing henry there, i wonder what he’d do with the shooting set but yet again.. there is no story of him in here rather than accompanying mary or just told mr barber to back off 😂
