I enjoyed your kld`s singing.
I actually just arrived in Okinawa yesterday to visit family and will be back in November. We alternate between Maui and Okinawa. It’s interesting to see some of the attractions I don’t get to see because growing up there until I was almost 7 and having local family, we don’t do some of the touristy stuff, but I think some of it is interesting. Keep your videos coming.
Aloha, my husband is from Maui as well. He's from upcountry. You are lucky to be able to go back and forth between two beautiful places.
@ We love upcountry. Makawao is really neat, but I really like Kula. Our favorite though was Lahaina. I was able to walk to get essentials, surf, and even go to the circus (Front Street). It was sad, watching it burn while we were in Okinawa, the poor people of Lahaina Town. We took our kids, daughter’s husband and the eldest’s girlfriend the year before it burned and watched a fire up the hill by the “L”. We just stayed up on Napili Bay in November and poor Lahaina Town is still flat.
You know what’s funny? Okinawa and Hawaii have a similar history. Mainland Japan really destroyed a lot of Okinawa’s culture. It has changed a lot since I lived here from ‘67-‘73. I grew listening to Okinawan pigeon, a mix of Japanese and Okinawan. I also spent a bunch of time in Sunabe, the northern beach area of Chatan At my grandparent’s house. Did you know they did a landfill there to add housing? We were a block and a half away from the beach, now it’s a quarter mile or more from his old property.
I hope you enjoyed the cherry blossoms with your cousin. I love hearing your stories about old Okinawa.
Lahaina is a special place. We learned that Uruma recently donated money for the people of Lahaina. @stanndeb
@@adoboramen Didn’t make it up there yet. I did eating, visiting and driving around the Okinawa City area(several cousins live there). Went to Ishikawa a couple days ago to watch a cousin’s friend surf some small chopped up waves and the sky’s opened up and dumped rain on us. We are going to see the traditional singing band, Nenes tonight at the Live House. I hope your family are still enjoying it here. I’m in Sunabe, close to the beach not far from where my grandfather’s house was, about to run to a cafe for some grinds. Take care
