- 3 step process. Apply thin layer of paint stripper with brush, scrape off top shiny coat of paint with scraper. Then apply another layer of of paint stripper with brush, scrape off the goop 2nd layer of paint. Finally apply one more coat to what's left and scrape off with a window scraping razor.
Thank you! This was super helpful. I would have applied the first coat, figured it was a lost cause and gave up. Good to know what to expect!
This is the exact color that someone painted my floors before I bought the house and I can’t stand it. I can’t wait to strip the paint off. It’s actually really refreshing to see this video
Thank you for watching my video over 50k times!!! Everyone have a great day you've all made this feel so amazing glad I got a bunch of thumbs up it means a lot :) , I provided an update below to a question. And sorry I never did I video with me floor sanding there are lots of other great videos on youtube to watch!

Thanks, Ken.
Edger with 12 grit paper cuts that junk off so fast. No goopy mess.
That method works too! But people should know that the dust sanding paint kicks up can be toxic, and if you dont know what your doing you can easily mess the floor up because it's hard to guage the level of depth without it stripped to refinish it. I did use a sander but after the paint was removed.
Nice video did you get any good results after sanding?
Yes the wood turned out great managed to only take a thin layer off, mostly topcoat.
Yes they came out great! =]
It's unfortunate someone painted over those floors they're beautiful.
Thank you it was a long project with many people helping get to the finished result and using the right stuff helped too it wasn't a day long project it took many cans of stripper and some good scrapers.
Unfortunately this is common. Im trying to restore an old farm house that have beautiful floors but previous owners either painted them or carpeted over them. I dont get why people bother moving into old farm houses if they are just going to gut all their charm.
You would be very sad in my areas. Painting hardwood was really popular back in the day in my county. I have to sand a painted for once every other month.
What a paint, I mean pain!
😂
wow, i was floored (pun intended) when you hit it with the razor blade. 1) is it worth doing it on your own? 2) have you ever discovered really bad floors underneath? I'm amazed as to why folks would paint a wooden floor, especially when they are selling the property and there's a fresh coat. Looks very suspicious indeed!
I only did it one time. It took me days and days but was worth it.
Help! When stripping the paint layers on my floor, the top layer comes off but the bottom layer, which is red, seeps in.
Maybe you have an oil based paint, depending on the type of wood and moisture content too maybe it was wet and soaked in. I don't know hut hopefully you hit it with a floor sander that will take a layer off probably the color you don't want too.
Did you make a video on sanding a wood floor? If so....can you provide the link?
Thanks!!!
Sorry I never managed to get a video of that.
Next time use a heat gun. Works so much cleaner annd easier when scraping old latex paint.
There has GOT to be a better way.
Or... and here me out, this is a little crazy. You could just use 12 grit edger paper and sand it off. Would take a few hours, no chemicals.
You could but sometimes you end taking more wood off than paint if you want to expose the wood without taking a layer off too use this method. I am an amateur at sanding so I wanted to remove the paint first so I didn't have to sand to much to get the paint off.
